Biergarten Hostel

Ilha Grande, Brazil

The 8 bed dorm upstairs is spacious, big lockers and the WIFI was okay (it was quite slow sometimes but I suppose that's quite normal on an island). Breakfast was great and the restaurant as well. Would be even better if you would get a little discount for it as a guest of the hostel =) The beach is not far away (5 minutes walk). Supermarkets, shops and restaurants just around the corner. Nice place to stay.

Best breakfast ever =) Hostel is veery close to the beach and the pier where the boats arrive. The owner is very friendly and the internet worked very well. One hot shower downstairs, which is working fine. Bring lots of mosquito repellent as are a lot of them in the rooms. And there's no air con in the room so it can get quite hot at night.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is awesome (fresh fruit, cake, toast, cheese, ham, jam, coffee, tea). You can chill out on the rooftop with an amazing view over Rio and the cute "zebra cat". The taxi ride from the bus station was very expensive, but we arrived on a Sunday and taxi prices seem to be more expensive on weekends. It's very close to the restaurant and bar street in Santa Teresa and some supermarkets are close by. We enjoyed our stay very much =)

The twin rooms are quite dark and a bit small. The kitchen is big and you´ll find everything you need. Breakfast was ok =) The internet didn´t work in our room, but we had no problems in the common area. The pool seemed nice and there are a few chairs to lay down on. It´s about a 10 minutes walk to the bus station.

Staff is very friendly, we could even get in our room quite early in the morning and got a nice breakfast. The area is safe, a supermarket is just around the corner and a good Empanadaria as well =) The internet worked okay (best signal in the common area). Kitchen is well equipped. No laundry service, but there are a few laundry facilities near the hostel.

The hostel is directly in front of the "plaza de armas" on the 6th floor. So you have a beautiful view over the area and Santiago. The kitchen is well equipped, you´ll find everything you need. The staff is kind of unfriendly, it seems some of them really hate their job. Our sheeds in our room (double room) were kind of dirty. The hot showers worked good!

The hot showers worked sometimes, sometimes not. Some of the staff are friendly and helpful, one of them wasn´t really friendly, even tried us to pay more than we should. The common area is just great, a lot of hammocks and an awesome place to relax =) The Hostel is a bit away from the main area where all the restaurants and other stuff are, but still okay.

The showers were nice and hot. The internet was quite fast and worked just fine. The staff was very friendly and helped us with all our questions about the Salar de Uyuni tours. Lockers are available. Next to the hostels are ATM´s and a lot of restaurants. The common room was nice and you could watch DVD´s if you want. The only negative thing was the breakfast: The toast was as dry and hard as the Uyuni desert....the cereals instead were soft and slushy. But the rest was just fine =)

Our double room was clean and tidy. The staff was friendly and helpful. The shower was okay, not hot, but okay. The internet was incredibly slow...we had to book our further trip, which in this case was simple not possible and we ended up paying for an internet café. The other annoying point was the door bell. It didn't work properly and you'd have to wait outside until someone heard you knocking on the door.

The pickup (at 10pm) from the airport worked just perfect. Our driver waited outside and drove us directly to the hostel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great, we stayed two nights and got two different types of breakfast. Miraflores is quite safe, we've never had any problems. Our room was a bit smelly, but we don´t know if it just came from one guys pants drying on the window board ;-)

The staff keeps the place clean & tidy. Thats awesome, no doubt about that. But sometimes its kind of annoying if they're cleaning the place 10 times a day. The room (6bed dorm) was big enough to store all our belongings. 4 lockers in a 6 bed dorm are a bit spare though. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rules of the hostel are quite strict we guess. We weren´t even allowed to hang up a sheet of paper to try to sell something. However, we would recommend the hostel to everyone!

Lockers are available in the rooms. They´re cleaning the room every day. Its about a 40 minutes bus ride to the beaches of San Diego, thats the only negative thing. the rest of it, just great!!

Pro: George was already waiting for us when we arrived. We first thought he lives in the house as well, but he only introduced us to everything. He was very friendly and helpful! You have everything you need in that place. We got a big double room and everything was perfect! Con: It´s not really a negative point. But you must consider you are not staying in NYC, BUT its only a 2 minutes walk to the train station and you are in Manhatten about 20 minutes later.

Even before entering the hostel the receptionist told us that there are no rooms. When we told her, that we have a booking she just smirked and told us that there are still no rooms available and we should book at least 4 days earlier the next time! WTF? It was raining cats & dogs and we needed to look for another hostel. We asked her to use the internet, but she just laughed and wanted 5$ for it! Zero customer friendly, zero competence; zero cooperativeness - means ZERO rating points.. Cheers!
