Big and anonymous with brisk staff. Nice rooftop with basic catering facilities, a bar and plenty of space to sit in shade. Good WiFi throughout. The dorm had aircon and each bed has a curtain, its own light + power sockets. The mattress was ropey and the pillows are wafer thin. It's a pity that the under-bed lockers are not just a bit bigger to fit backpacks as this would make better use of the small space available. Central location, easy to get around all the sites and to the malecón.
A good place sleep - one night I was up at 11 and was the only one around! The dorms are quite small so people hang around in the central area so it's easy to meet people. Lockers quite big but too small for a backpack, and the front door is always left open so it's best to lock everything away. Nice kitchen with non-broken utensils, good WiFi, cool water showers. Was always clean. Located away from the centre but not up some hill which I was happy about after a long day's walking.
A long walk up the hill (or a cheap taxi) but once there it is a lovely, tranquil place to spend time and relax. Very friendly owners, full of enthusiasm.
Good size rooms with (for Ecuador) a lot of furniture. Towels included (soap not), good showers. This is more of a hotel so no social area. They have a café next door to buy breakfast or there are many places nearby. Rooms lack external windows so are quite dark - perhaps would suit people who are fed up being woken by the sun every morning?
Very clean, nice kitchen with free coffee, friendly staff The lockers are small and the dorm rooms do not have much space so when full and with everyone's backpacks I think they will be packed. The private rooms looked nice.
Comfortable beds, big lockers, large kitchen, nice common areas and a pleasant 'feel' to the place. Not really close to anything and on main road so quite noisy at night. Friendly and helpful staff and owner.
One of the better hostals: very clean, well equipped kitchen, small garden, good mattresses, great WiFi, friendly staff, all in a beautiful house. It's located about 30min walk from Tres Cruces bus terminal or take the 181 bus. It's away from many attractions but close to the Playa Pocitos.
I got upgraded! Lovely kitchen, all rooms clean and comfortable. If not for the short beds I would have stayed longer.
Very clean, nice common rooms, garden, good kitchen, lots of space in the dorm room (another hostal would have fitted another bunk in there), big lockers *and* wardrobe space. San Luis built the bus terminal outside the town so it is a 30-40 minute to this hostel, which itself is well located a short walk to the centre of town.
Comfortable, relaxed and very clean. Located between the bus station and the centre 10 mins walk from either, nice common rooms with comfortable sofas, lots of places to sit inside and out, great kitchen, basic dorms, good sized lockers, very good WiFi, very friendly and helpful staff / owners, nice guests. Overall well above average.
Downtown review. Only stayed 1 night so possibly not a good judge, but all seemed very good. Very compact and located between the bus terminal and the town itself (not really "in the heart"). Good WiFi, comfortable beds, kitchen seemed well equipped and ordered, good breakfast (cereals, fresh toast and freshly squeezed juice, tea/ coffee), friendly and helpful staff, very clean.
Very nice hostel, great atmosphere: very easy to meet people, comfortable beds and lovely staff. One problem is the WiFi which is often unusable for several hours (and, just in case like me you need one, there is no oven). But overall this is one of the better hostels and I was sad to leave.
The hostel is very clean, comfortable and laid back. There are two kitchens, a very good breakfast, good WiFi everywhere, many travel books and Ross is friendly and knowledgeable. I guess he's travelled a lot himself and so knows what the traveller needs e.g. useful map, list of things to do, free beach towel and a welcome juice and slice of cake. Recommended for a relaxing break within your break.
New family run place - beds still very new and comfortable! Good kitchen, again everything new. Very close to the sea, however the beaches are the opposite end of town from the 'sights' but everything can be walked and there are buses / collectivos. Big supermarket and laundrettes nearby. And good coffee!
The cleanest hostel I've stayed in, incredible given the dirt and dust of the town and surrounds, Very efficient front desk will book tours and even helped with my phone contract. Good sized lockers, bottle of water and a new towel every day.
Good location, friendly and enthusiastic staff, easy to meet people in the common area and cosy(!) kitchen. No problems with noise.
This hostel's description is misleading e.g. there are no lockers. Security is poor as the dorm lock does not work and anyone could walk in off the street and take your unprotected items. Although they clean every day it is difficult to maintain hygiene with only 1 cloth for dishes, worktops, floors etc. Many of the facilities claimed do not exist. It is a cold and damp building, which is a pity because with some care it could be nice.
Very friendly and helpful people running this place. Big kitchen / dining area to socialise. 2 hammocks! Quiet location just to the edge of the centre. But watch the oven temp - I did a King Alfred!
Very friendly and helpful couple with a good team to keep the place running. Great location - walk to the street and there's the ocean! It's also close to the centre. Nice kitchen, plenty of places to relax, everywhere very tranquil.
Near the beach, huge lockers, nice kitchen, friendly and laid-back vibe.
Mixed clients, quiet rooms (apart from Friday BBQs), awesome shower, poor WiFi, usual stuff for breakfast, always kept clean, friendly staff, card-key access to rooms, backpack sized lockers, kitchen has 2 cookers with working ovens and 2 sinks with plenty of pans and plates although no kitchen knives.
Really nice place with no hidden charges. Nice location to walk along the south bank. From Stansted / Liverpool Street you can take bus 344 to 20 meters from the door. Comfortable beds with blinds and a reading light; perhaps a bit short for taller people. Computer and fridge in the dorm plus good WiFi. Free breakfast with huge range.
Plenty of space in the dorms, long comfortable beds, two kitchens, dishwashers, awesome showers in large bathrooms, always clean, friendly & helpful staff, great WiFi. I recommend you borrow one of their locks for the locker as the ?shaft has to be exactly the right thickness or it either won't fit or if too small the locker will not be secure. I got the impression that people could easily come and go. Would liked to have stayed longer.
Comfortable bed, generous breakfast, super fast WiFi, proper-sized towel hire for a pound, lots of little extras, nice dog.
Peaceful, laid back hostel with friendly staff and nice areas in which to relax and socialise. Good breakfast, good WiFi that reaches most areas, always clean and a well equipped kitchen.
Located 1-2 minutes walk up the road from Plaza Sotomayor and owned by a very friendly guy this hostal suits Valparaiso's bright colours and laid-back charm. It's very peaceful, has a roof terrace, a central courtyard and a couple of other common rooms. The kitchen is really well equipped and modern. Its WiFi is very good. Breakfast is not included but the owner provides tea, coffee and fresh bread and there are nearby supermarkets and shops.
You won't want to leave! Beautiful place and very relaxing. The most comfortable bed in Chile, nice and long. Good kitchen. Good size lockers. Easy to hang out and meet others. Great owner. Located away from the town centre, near the surfing beach, up a hill. The only down-side is the truly awful WiFi - you should have all onward travel arranged before your arrival! Otherwise I might have moved in!
Located near where the airpost bus drops off. Nice big lockers. Comfortable bunks. Had two outsiders sleep in our room one night, so security not too tight. Nice kitchen, lots of room. WiFi quite slow. Really helpful staff.
Good hostel with loads of space and many areas. Nice kitchen and WiFi, average breakfast. Tax not included in the rate.
Comment based on a one-night stay. The best things are the views and the terrace. The kitchen seems pretty nice too, and everything seemed pretty clean. Breakfast included pieces of fruit which made a welcome change. Minus points: there are too few showers, the place seemed rather impersonal and clinical, WiFi is only available in the common areas and they have excluded tax from the advertised room rates. My stay was in January and the dorm was very hot, hotter than any other in Santiago.
Run by a lovely family it is located between the town centre and the beaches, near the plaza. The town is very small so nothing is far away. The owner is very friendly and there is always someone on hand to help. There was never a problem with their WiFi. On the minus side when it is full there are not enough showers / bathrooms, there are no lockers and the kitchen equipment is old. However they are always making improvements and I am sure it will get even better.
They're a bit cheeky! They have 2 hostels so they double book this one and ship the extra people to their other one. This 2nd hostel is on the edge of town, has no sitting room and doesn't include breakfast, so you are left wandering around the following morning looking for something to eat.
Family run place, nice people. Big kitchen with plenty of space to sit. You leave your key near the entrance so in theory anyone could take it and go into your room. NB tax is not included in the price.
Impersonal feel. Need to leave deposit when using any cutlery. Unequipped kitchen which is of inadequate size compared with number of guests. Friendly reception staff. Good sized lockers. Shower has warm water for short periods only. Very small common area which is open to the busy reception area. Anaemic WiFi, even in common area and reception. It is located away from the town but not too far. Did not have a washing machine or key card access as advertised.
Great hostel, friendly and very helpful staff, a little away from the centre of town towards the water, nice breakfast with eggs, well equipped kitchen, nice relaxed feel. Tip - sometimes the WiFi is very very slow = leave it for an hour and it will be back.
This is what happens when you leave men in charge lol - not too tidy, a bit run down but a nice pool table with professional cues. Close to the centre of town, fast wi-fi, always warm, good breakfast, very friendly owners (family?), nice kitchen, just all a bit worn out.
Two friendly ladies welcome you to their home and encourage you to talk in Spanish. Well equiped kitchen with many spices available. Bit of a walk from the bus station. Nice balcony.
Very well laid out hostal, plenty of places to mingle or to get away as there is the lounge, the kitchen and its big table, the *****, the hammocks in the garden (or even the bus station opposite!). The kitchen is the best I have seen. It has four sinks, two 4-ringed gas hobs and all the equipment you may need. Comfortable beds and awsome shower. NB if coming from Castro note it is located opposite Cruz del Sur bus terminal, not the Terminal Ancud at which the busses stop first.
Not too many beds and has a cosy feel. Everyone socialises in the one common room which has a beautiful view of the lake and an airy relaxed atmosphere. Kitchen is small but adequate. There are no lockers. All the staff are lovely and it is very clean.
Beautiful views and a calm welcoming atmosphere make the cozy hostel. Good breakfast, nice kitchen and strong WiFi. Very friendly and helpful staff. Wide age range of guests.

Peaceful and relaxed, has a good age range, friendly staff, decent sized breakfast and in a quiet street with supermarkets nearby. Plenty of pockets to find people or to get away.
