Cowgate Tourist Hostel

Edinburgh, Scotland

This hostel is the best-located hostel in Edinburgh for the Fringe (unless you want somewhere quiet, which we didn't). It is in the middle of some of the best Free Fringe venues with loads of different bars and pubs in walking distance, right near both Grassmarket and the Royal Mile. It is clean, convenient and very cheap; beds, showers all fine and really good big kitchens full of cooking stuff. Strong free wifi everywhere. No lockers or bar.

This hostel was excellent, except that it is pricy and the room was very cold.

The staff were brilliant and everything was very clean. they have lockers and offer you the use of a padlock. No real cooking facilities but they do have a fridge and freezer and cutlery for cold food. Small and comfy

Great breakfast included. Only one plug socket in a 4 bed room. Friendly staff, free luggage room, bar with pool table. Very clean. Kinda on a back street but so close to the main station.

Lively bar and clean modern facilities. Reminds you of a Wombats. Spitting distance from the station. Beds were a bit creaky so being quiet for people already asleep was a challenge, but that is to be expected in a hostel. To leave luggage behind during the day you had to use lockers, and if you didn't have a padlock you had to hire one. But it was only 1 euro.

I am becoming the biggest Wombats fan, I don't know how they get their hostels so clean and modern. As ever a great beginning to the night at the bar and jokes staff.

This hostel is perfectly located between the centre and the train and bus station. It's basically what used to be someone's front room, with a clean toilet and basic bathroom. It is small and friendly and very safe, but the main point is the lovely hostess Jasmina, who leaves homemade baklava and bosnian pies on the coffee table and treats guests to breakfast, local advice and even tours. If you are looking for a big party hostel with lots of people this is not for you, but it is lovely.

The staff here were really nice and extremely helpful. The whole thing was very clean, fairly small and in a great location less than 5 minutes form the station. For the price I was really impressed, they have a nice lobby area with sofas and computers, and a kitchen with all you need and a telly. Wouldn't stay anywhere else if I went to Zagreb again

Very very clean, friendly staff, standard breakfast. ONly downsides: Internet is expensive and it's closed between 10 and 5.
