Simple Hostel

St Petersburg, Russia

I love the location close to the Hermitage, St. Isaac's, etc. It's a bit far from some of nightlife spots, though. Staff is extremely affable and friendly. The interior design is good. Sound isolation could be a bit better but as the place itself is quiet and everyone is so nice it's not a problem. Had a bit of an issue with WiFi but then it was solved. Nice bathrooms with complimentary soap (water temperature oscillates a bit though). And they make beds for you! Recommend!

Unity Traveller Hostel

Budapest, Hungary

There are two kinds of reviews about the place. One is, "Wow, it is awesome!". The other is, "It's awful, people are smoking in rooms, dirty", etc. In reality it's not a bad place at all. Location is the best in Budapest. Next to the nightlife, near Liszt academy, Andrassy, etc. Now they seem to solve the noise problem. The place was quiet. But everything there was kinda weary and old. The laundry cost 2600 Ft (~8.4 EUR) which is unacceptable. The staff's nice. The cleanliness is average.

Hostel Revolucion

In terms of decoration/atmosphere it's one of the best hostels I've ever seen. Located in the centre. The staff is helpful. There is soap in the bathroom, lockers in rooms.

Moscow, Russia

Nice location (very close to the metro) and not so far from the center to go by foot. Extremely, exceptionally nice staff (Irina). Two separate bathrooms with showers + one separate toilet (complimentary soap), free big towel. Free lockers. Laundry costs around 1 euro. Stable Wifi. Fully equipped kitchen (2 fridges, big oven, microwave, mixer, boiler, etc.). Even basic free breakfast (sandwiches). The hostel is on the ground floor, so there's no luggage hauling. And the street is very quiet.

Arpacay Backpackers Hostel

Very atmospheric historic location. I stayed in 12 beds dorm. It's really huge, not crowded at all. Very cosy. Ensuite bathroom with several showers.

Maxim Hostel

Budapest, Hungary

Home-like. If you are interested to get a glimpse into the life of people in Soviet block that's the right place. The place has that atmosphere. Location is very convenient. It's on restaurant walking-street. Inexpensive Chinese buffet nearby. Spectacular Applied Arts Museum is couple blocks away. Central market (touristic but beautiful) is nearby. Real bathroom (with bathtub), free laundry!

The Hipstel

Barcelona, Spain

Staff is very friendly. If you are early, you can leave luggage for free. No soap in toilets or showers. No hot water in toilets. You always have to push a button for water to flow. No place for your valuables in shower. You have to dress somehow while standing with your feet 1 cm deep in water. Microwave does not work. Internet is very slow an hard to login. 3-4 power outlets for 8-10 people in room! Sliding doors in some rooms are confusing and noisy. Atmosphere is good only for party people.

It’s a bit expensive. Wifi didn’t work in my room. Sound isolation of my room from kitchen was very poor. Staff is friendly and good. Laundry is expensive. Location is pretty okay.

Rome, Italy

A bit far from center. You’ll have to use metro for everything. (Except St. Paolo basilica which is close and worth a visit). Wifi could be better. It wasn’t working some evenings. Showers could have hooks for your stuff! But the place is quite good. Home-like atmosphere, relaxed. Not crowded. Supermarket is 5 min walk. Would stay there if I’m on a budget.
