Ocean Breeze Inn, Boracay Island, Philippines
8.6
20th Feb 2016

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was a little bit on the expensive side, especially for one that doesn't have AC. However, it's only a short walk from the beach and is close to the ferry port as well. The cottages do give you a unique experience compared to just staying in a room. Overall, not exactly a backpacker's place. The biggest issue was that wifi didn't work, so make your plans ahead of time (mostly to avoid depending on tourist companies for advice).

Bedbunkers Hostels Kuta Raya, Kuta, Indonesia

15th Feb 2016

We booked a private room. When we arrived, the room wasn't ready because the previous guests hadn't checked out. We saw the room and were shocked at the quality. It was not a standard twin as listed, but a bunk bed. The walls didn't even reach the ceiling. The room and hostel looked like a prison cell. Still, we waited until 5pm, and the room wasn't ready. They returned the our money, but refused to return the deposit. We recommend just going to JL Legian for affordable, high quality rooms.

Valentine Hotel, Hue, Vietnam

Welcoming staff, great location, and wonderful rooms for a great price! They even let us check in early when our bus from Hanoi arrived 5 hours early. The only problem was the motor bike company, Motorvina, that Valentine Hotel uses. The first day, Motorvina had to send 4 bikes because the first 3 broke within minutes of arriving. The bike they gave us that we used to drive to Hoi An had lots of problems during our trip. Stay at Valentine but rent your bike from somewhere else!

The rooms were great. Very clean and comfortable. The staff was also very helpful in arranging a night bus to Bagan and picking us up from the airport. The restaurants around Agga are delicious!

Zackry Guest House, Langkawi, Malaysia

The staff were very helpful, and the rooms were great. We had a shared bathroom, but only had to share with one other couple, so there weren't any issues. It's off the main road, so we'd recommend renting a motorcycle ( they had really good quality bikes) so you can see more of the island.

Townhouse Hotel, Manila, Philippines
6.3
26th Jan 2016

It's very close to the airport, so you can get to your flight by taxi or by motorcycle from the security guards waiting in front of the hotel. The rooms were very simple, clean, and spacious. The bathroom can be an issue as only person in the hotel can use the shower at a time despite having multiple showers. And getting there was difficult because the receptionist got our driver lost when we called for directions. This hotel is very far from the tourist parts of Manila, so be prepared.

Apple Hostel, Hong Kong, Hong Kong
8.6
1st Jan 2015

Apple was great! The staff was super friendly and let us check in early on New Year's day. The rooms are small, but comfy. The location is ideal of HK as it's right across from the Tsim Sha Tsui station and walking distance to other sights. The only drawback is that the building is a little sketchy. Since it's on the 10th floor, it would be faster just to take the stairs up than wait on that elevator. Apple hostel is the perfect place for a budget trip to HK!

The Bananas, Krabi, Thailand
10.0
9th Jan 2014

Amazing location! It is a bit out of the way. The bus might drop you off in some random location, but if you go to that pink house, there will be a sign for the bus/truck. And be sure to tell the driver to stop at the bananas since ( for me at least) it popped out of no where. The beaches were amazing with vey nice views. Definitely borrow one of their bikes to explore the little town around the area. And the food was fantastic! Bananas has a lot to offer. I wish I had stayed longer!

Kikies House, Chiang Mai, Thailand
8.9
4th Jan 2014

Great hostel in the heart of the old city! You can basically walk to any of the main attractions. Also the group room was clean and well decorated so you feel at home. The weekend trek was a little cheesy, but the campsite where we spent the night was beautiful Kikie's offers a bus for 500 baht back to Kao San road. It does drop you off at the beginning of the main street that is perpendicular to Kao San road. Don't listen to the taxi drivers! Just walk left from the traffic circle.
