Check Inn HK, Hong Kong, Hong Kong
7.1
10th Nov 2014

Basic backpackers in the heart of HK - near the party district. Wifi worked well, but there was no kitchen, free drinkable water, bathrooms are there (but go straight onto the loungeroom which can be awkward), staff are OK. Atmosphere is a little disappointing too, lots of people from China there for a couple of nights just to renew their visas - meaning they weren't up for much at all. Common area was pretty tight too, (as you'd expect for HK I guess).

MEININGER London Hyde Park, London, England
7.1
5th Nov 2014

Location was good. Staff were sometimes good, sometimes not. Atmosphere - it was full of school kids (eg, 8-17 year old) the entire time I was there - def not a backpackers. Terrible little aeroplane bathroom in rooms, which was rubbish considering how much you pay per night. Overall disappointing. You had to pay extra for literally EVERYTHING.

Hello there, Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment after your stay. We are sorry to hear we couldn't meet your expectations on everything during your stay here. St Christopher's Berlin, Berlin, Germany
8.3
2nd Nov 2014

Classic St Christopher's.. awesome bar, free brekky, no wifi in rooms. The dorms were the older type, with only small lockers. Problem with the showers - the males only had one shower working on each floor (how many people are there per floor??) when i was there. Location is a fair hike from all the museums etc, but close to the metro station (literally outside the front door). The staff were helpful/friendly. As per usual, the bar provided a great atmosphere :-) great classic backpackers.

Thanks for taking some time to leave us some feedback. I'm sorry if our shower renovations caused you any inconvenience during your stay. I'm glad you still had a great time and that you took full advantage of what we offer the backpackers that choose to stay with us here at St Christopher's. Hope to see you again soon!

Generator Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany

30th Oct 2014

This is a Generator hostel done right (unlike the Copenhagen one). Wifi was great, laundry a reasonable price, staff were super friendly and very helpful, the bar always had a good atmosphere, there were separate showers and toilets outside the main room, and the hostel in general was worth the money. Had a fantastic time here, and will definitely stay here when back in Hamburg! Would be nice if there was a reasonabley priced breakfast though..

Hello, Thank you for your comment. It is great to see that we were able to convince you of Generator. It would be nice to see you soon again in Hamburg. All the best for your travels. Sven Heberling Assistant General Manager

Generator Hostel Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark
6.3
27th Oct 2014

On the upside: the wifi worked well, good bar/big chill out area, and the beds were good (the private type). On the down side: it was super expensive (eg, equivalent of $15usd for laundry - can't blame that all on being in Copenhagen), a fair walk to the main area, no kitchen, bathrooms were super small. Final note, for what you're paying for the dorm rooms, you the check in staff should be at least friendly. They weren't. WIll stay elsewhere next time.

View Property Reply

Hi C, thanks for staying with us. We are sorry that you found it so expensive, we do aim to be an affordable option and offer you great value. Laundry is 25 per wash or dry which is pretty standard for Copenhagen though it may seem on the spicey side. As for the rooms, all rooms are with ensuite bathrooms, this minimises queues and allows for more comfort. In addition there are extra bathrooms on the floors. We hope to see you back again. Cheers, Team Generator Cph

Have stayed in a lot of hostels, and this one definitely falls into the best hostels ever category! First of all, the breakfast is amazing, you would not find better at a 5 star hotel. hands down sensational. Wifi works well mostly (although need to fix it on the 2nd floor). Good lockers, awesome room themes, great bathrooms, cheap laundry, and only a 5 min walk to the old town. Top it off, the staff are super friendly & helpful. Finally, one of the best atmospheres going too.

Beautiful old building, probably one of the flashest hostels going. Huge rooms, awesome bathrooms. Staff are cool and helpful. Laundry facilities. Wifi works well. Awesome breakfast in the morning. Location is probably 15-20 minute walk from main area of Prague where all the night life is, and a 10 minute walk to the nearest tube station.

More of a hotel than a hostel as per most Meiningers.. no laundry, not a real kitchen (the pictures lie), expensive breakfast. Wifi works well. If you're lucky you might snag a single bed. Still possible to meet people though, half decent bar.. good location, right next to the metro and the new train station.

Wifi only worked downstairs and cut in and out. Bunks were three high, and the rooms were waaay too small for as many people as were in each (rooms always stunk & were way stuffy at night). Some staff were awesome, others were almost rude. No kitchen, but that's OK because there's not really a grocery store close by anyway. Bathrooms were below par.. improper drainage, poor quality. One day the common room was closed off for a function. You're also on the DLR, which is more $ to get to the tube.

Wifi worked well. Beds were comfy. Not enough bathrooms in the morning. Great breakfast, has a laundry, computers you can use, bar, etc etc. Lots of long term residents, eg students & working people who can't find a flat. This can lead to a change in atmosphere... eg, people having to write assignments in the dorm rooms etc. Location is good - 10 to 15 minutes walk to bus/train/royal mile etc.

Excellent hostel! Steve the owner is great, super friendly & helpful. Wifi works well throughout the entire building. Hostel is in a good location, just 10 mins walk from most of the pubs etc. Breakfast is great, with selection of cereals, eggs, and even freshly made bread! There's also a movie room with heaps of movies. Great place to chill out, with plenty of bars just down the street. Will definitely stay here again when back in Derry!

Classic large party hostel. Bar downstairs. Wifi works well. Costs a fortune to print ... or to do anything at this hostel for that matter. About a 5-10 minute walk from the main promenade with all the bars etc on it. Not the best or the worst hostel out there. They could do with some new bunks and maybe lockers (lots of lockers had the rear section broken off of them...not to secure as a result).

Frustrating hostel. Looks awesome in the pics. Got there and they only had keys to one of the lockers in the room. Good location near all the pubs etc. A couple of the staff are super friendly. It was frustrating and awkward to have to interrupt their groupings on the terrace all the time if we ever needed anything though. Also, the hostel never had any change at all so we always had an IOU and had to change up getting change. The showers are also super awkward to use. Won't stay here again.

Great place to chill out when you need a break from the hostels.. the room had air con, TV, wifi worked excellent, all around it was a fantastic place to stay. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Some reviews say it is hard to find, but it really isn't - there's a sign on the outside of the building saying "Hello Sofia B&B". Inside the building is immaculate, recently renovated.. I'll definitely stay here again.

Unlike so many backpacker factories in Europe, this is another hostel in the Balkans which has got it so right! Classic backpacker feel to the hostel. However, every night people would invite people from other hostels back.. as there was no receptionist this meant the "parties" in the hostel could last until 2.30am.. it also created a security issue where non-guests were in the rooms & hostel late at night. 6. If you book here you will stay at one of two locations: the first in the hotel as advertised; the second next to the Russian Embassy (where we all want to stay given recent events...). You are taken there by a random person who you then never see again. The hotel reception is a 5 minute walk away. You pass through military guards (Russian) to get there. No kitchen, not even a fork to use. No common room. Bathrooms flood when you use them. Staff not overly helpful. Will not return.

Great atmosphere created by free pasta night & pub crawl every night. Fantastic common room. Fun & helpful staff. Great kitchen, and wifi throughout the building. Location wise - a trek from the beach, but close enough to everything else. Don't be mislead if you're looking for a quiet place however, this is not it (at least not from 7-10pm at night when it becomes a party hostel).

Great family run hostel! Attracts a good crowd, had a great stay there. The staff were fantastic. Kitchen was great. Atmosphere was tops. Location - about 10mins walk from the train station with plenty of bars & even a couple of clubs on the same street as the hostel. Roof top terrace is cool. One thing to note: they have an awesome beer vending machine in the hostel - bring plenty of change!

Disappointing stay after the high quality experienced at the St Christopher's Inn Paris Canal. Paid for a premium room, got no curtain. Felt awkward asking the staff questions, like it was always a huge inconvenience to them. It is also a long way from the centre and train station compared to other hostels. Will choose somewhere else to stay next time am in Bruges.

Hi! Thank you for your comment! A hostel is only 25 minutes a short walk through beautiful Bruges or easy 2 euro 10 minutes bus journey. Also, you can find a map and all information about that on our website before you come or just send us an email with your questions. We are here to help you! :) Take care and we hope you will back to Bruges in future!

The hostel is based in an old brewery, only a 15min walk from town. It was opened only a couple of years ago, using the carbon nuetral idea.. this creates an issue though: as they limit the air flow through the building, it seems that an accumulation of dust occurs in the bedrooms! If you have hayfever or asthma be weary of staying at this hostel purely because you can´t open the window to give it a proper air out. I was sneezing the entire time was at the hostel, was fine when I went outside.

Best hostel ever. Awesome staff, great to muck around with and have a joke (shout out to Claire!). Close to subway station with the lines going directly to the main attractions. Awesome pods for privacy. The downstairs bar has an awesome atmosphere to watch sports, especially the World Cup! Booked for two nights, stayed for six. Will definitely stay here again when I come back to Paris. One thing to remember - there is a city outside the bar.

I arrived late at night to the hostel to find somebody sleeping in my bed (not a hostel guest). Rather than move them I got shifted to another room. The next day I had to wake up early to check out and store my bags etc etc.. Wifi doesn't work upstairs. No elevator. Grubby bathrooms. Beds too close together. Overall disappointing. It has the potential to be good but just too many issues to go back.

Expected a lot more for the price & reviews. The hostel is quiet a distance form Manhattan, and 5 stops from Williamsburg. It offers a lot in the description on Hostelworld, but you have to pay additional fees for nearly everything (eg, gym, washing machine, to use the computers, etc etc). The atmosphere is pretty poor too - difficult to get to know people due to the layout of the hostel. Would also be good if breakfast went a bit later.

The USA hostel in Hollywood is not as good as their one in San Fran. Excellent location, good staff, but no real indoor area conducive to hanging around and meeting people (tv is always on). There is an outdoor area but this gets way too hot. The rooms at night also get pretty stuffy. Good wifi, decent kitchen & free continental breakfast provided. Also a great pub crawl put on by the hostel and the area is fantastic for the night life! The night shift worker needs to calm down slightly.

Great place to stay, central San Fran within walking distance of everything. One comment however - room 106 is too hot to sleep in at night! Expensive but good location & staff. In my room lots of people used it as a cheap hotel - eg, they'd come just for a business meeting and be there only the one night. Good brekky provided in the morning - free home made bread & scrambled eggs. Potential for a good atmosphere but everybody is always busy backing for their hike. Found staff were not overly helpful when approached about issues - eg, a map of the town or what to do in the town itself... The dude who cooked me scrambled eggs every morning though was sensational.

Just stayed the one night en route to Puerto Natales.. cheap as chips, you get what you pay for. As stated in other reviews, rooms smell - think there's some leaking plumbing. Also it isn't an English hostel, so make sure you bring your Spanish skills or a dictionary!

Excellent hostel. Always full, and there's a reason why. Great social atmosphere, great city, excellent staff. Possibly also one of the cleanest hostels with the most comfy beds I have come across so far. Very pro.

Great hostel - excellent social atmosphere with big lounge rooms, kitchen, pool room, outside pool, etc. Close to town, the beach and lake. Staff will go out of their way to help you in any way possible. Fantastic place to stay. Side note: book tours/activities/anything in town - much more expensive to do through the Hostel.

Small hostel with great atmosphere. In the middle of the cities walking tour providing some fantastic views. Breakfast (continental or toasted sandwiches) provided. Only down side is that there's only one shower! Luckily there are two toilets..

Great hostel - comfy beds, top atmosphere, easy to get to know people, pub crawl on the Fri & Saturday nights. Fantastic place to make friends & be in the centre of the action at night. During the day however, it is a fair walk into town.
