The hostel just opens when I stayed there, so they were still fixing things and geting new stuff. The location is quite central. If you go for a walk you can reach old downtown in half an hour. The hostel is an old house and the owner is trying to keep it in that stile, which has a lot of potential and I think it will turn out nice! The owner itself is a great guy! Fun and helpful and a great cook and baker!
The hostel is very simple but good enough. It has big rooms with enough space for the guests. The location is very good. Near to the metro station Flamengo. From there you are very central to all the places worth visiting.
Staying at Vidigal is such a nice experienc! The atmosphere in the hostel and the favela is awesome. Everybody knows each other and is a huge family. You can find everything you need in the there. And not only that it's safe to walk down and up the hill, but it's also a wonderful workout. But you can also take the mototaxi :) The hostel itself is new and clean. One of the nicest I stayed in Rio. The stuff is very welcoming and fun! And you have maybe the best view over the beaches of Rio.
To have a bad location on Ilha Grande is pretty hard. But El Misti is right in the middle of everything. The hostel is really nice. The common area is a piece of have with good music and a great athmosfere. The stuf is friendly and helpful and the barkeeper mixes great caipirinhas every evening! The rooms are ok. You should not expect too much. But you will not want to spend your time in the room anyway.
El Misti in Botafogo is very nice! It has a vary good location: on the one side the Pão de Açúcar on the other the Corcovado. The central city in the north and Copacabana in the south. It is central to all the places worth the visit. The stuff is really nice and helpful and the athmosfere in the common room is really great. It's a cheap hostel so if you expect a 5star hotel you are wrong. But the rooms and the toilets are good enough to have a good sleep and a shower.
