HelloBCN Hostel

Barcelona, Spain

Great hostel central to the key attractions in Barcelona. Loved the common area and kitchen was well equipped. They provided a great breakfast and staff were wonderful. Best room keys we have had on our trip so far! Only improvement would be to install lights for each bed as that would assist with rude people who turn the main bedroom light on at all hours of the night. Would strongly recommend this hostel.

Had a great stay here right in the centre of Avignon - you could not ask for a better location. The hostel had a wonderful feel to it and loved the happy hour specials at the bar (fantastic value with the tapas). Staff were lovely and helpful. Bed design was the best so far, lights, power and usb points and full curtains. Would highly recommend!

Rooms are spacious, bright and clean - which is a great start. Location is central to the train station and easy to get around to key attractions. Was great to have the kitchen and a fridge, however there seemed to be different crockery etc available on different days, plus there were large groups in using the kitchen for a big cook up and made it difficult to access at times. All in all was a lovely stay and enjoyed the hostel, would recommend.

PLUS Camping Roma

We only found out that there was actually a microwave and kettle that is in the Laundryroom after our stay, so that was a bit annoying. Location is not convenient at all to tour the city - even for day trips as the return trip always takes forever with the bus connections. Camp area is noisy as other travellers mistake tents for actual soundproof walls and the security and staff do nothing to assist keeping noise down during the night. Pool area is fantastic and the camp is nice in general.

Staying in the tents and we really enjoy the set up. You always have a bit of a walk to get to the toilet/shower blocks, but they are well maintained and clean. The camp really needs to have an onsite kitchen. Pool setup is fantastic and a great atmosphere. The worst thing about staying with this chain is the slow check-in time as you can wait up to and over an hour in line (really needs to be improved).

We had quite an enjoyable experience at this hostel, good location and the private room was lovely overlooking the courtyard and the river. Reception staff were lovely and helpful, and the general common room was open and clean. The biggest area for improvement would be the kitchen as it was the dirtiest I have seen in 10 months so far of staying in hostels around the world - providing that is improved, or you are prepared for it, you will have a lovely stay.

This is a convenient place to stay if you are on Busabout due to the drop point, however it is a long way from the city itself, so can be a long day even if you take the shuttle service. The pool, onsite shop and restaurant are great however it would be better if there was a camp kitchen. The biggest downside was if you wanted sleep, as I got more staying in a 40 bed dorm, lack of curtesy from other patrons and no assistance from the onsite security- it was quieter in a tent than a private cabin

We stayed in the 40 bed dorm purely for the experience and for a cheap night. We were happily surprised by the setup and had a good nights sleep. There are two big dorms, and the other one with the bathrooms attached does get very hot and sticky. The downside to here is the lack of fridge or kitchen and the lack of walls between the showers.... as long as you are prepared for that, enjoy. Oh and the welcome shots were a nice addition :-) Central location to many restaurants and Oktoberfest.

Hey there and thanks for your Review - you are the living proof that it is possible to survive in the 40 bed dorm if you are cool enough ;) Seriously - the showers will undergo bigger renovations in the winter time, promised. As for the kitchen, we are unfortunately not allowed to have one due to some strange German regulations. Keep on rolling!

Had a fantastic stay here and would again if in the area. It was an easy walk to the old town, supermarkets and cheap eateries, plus the onsite kitchen and lounge was a great way to chill out (especially as a non smoker). Plenty of toilets and showers and bright and clean rooms.

Our stay here was great, and would highly recommend this hostel as a great base to explore Amsterdam. The only downside was that they didn't have any facilities to assist the longer journey traveller such as a basic kitchen (microwave) or even easy access to cups so that you could have a glass of water, you had to buy bottles from the bar. But if this was the worst issue, overall it is a great hostel.

Hotel de Paris

While the hotel is not located right in the direct tourist district, it is right next to a subway station which so cheap and so easy to use to get around to all the sights. Rooms were clean and quite spacious and it was really great that the reception had a mini kitchen and microwave on site that they let you use so that was a big help. Only having one bathroom on each floor could potentially be an issue, yet we never had an issue for the 3 nights we stayed. The staff were also all fantastic.

Smart Hyde Park Inn

We had a good stay at the hostel but there are a few things that could be done to make it a really great stay. You have to pay for lockers under your bed (that take up all the space), the toilets and bathrooms are on different levels for the non en-suite rooms and for a tall person, they would struggle to be able to sit down as they are pretty small. The common areas are good but need more chairs and they need to get people to move away from the doors and windows when smoking downstairs.

The rooms are bright & clean, plus the design of the individual lockers under the beds were fantastic. The en-suite bathrooms can get a little wet as the shower door doesn't seal properly. The breakfast has a good range and is a nice inclusion. Unfortunately if you are a non smoker you will get the smoke wafting in the common room as people stand right on the doorsteps with all the doors open. The kitchen (while it has potential) lacks cooking utensils. I would still recommend for the location.

Fantastic location in Bath, easy to get to from the train station and to explore the rest of the town. Rooms were bright and clean. The only downside was that the common room area is a little small for the amount of people staying and the kitchen storage area probably needs to be a little more organised. But aside from that would recommend this hostel for a great stay.

Such a central location in York and the interior design of the hostel was so bright and bubbly that you want to almost change room every night to see all the different themes. Great facilities and having a separate mirror and hairdrying station as you can always get access to a bathroom. Only downside is not having a permanent receptionist as such, but it wasn't an issue as they give you all the required information and contact details. Would highly recommend this hostel. Enjoy!

The location of the hostel is fantastic as is right beside the Abbey and has amazing views over the town. We loved our stay here. The rooms were spacious, bright and clean. The kitchen was fully stocked and its nice having the all day tea and coffee available. There was a nice atmosphere around the common rooms and a really comfortable place to stay that we wished we could have stayed longer. Would be good to have a bit more signage on the street to find it, but the staff were so helpful that it really didn't matter in the end.

The hostel itself is lovely and facilities great. The most frustrating part is the 5pm check-in as you have no time to actually make use of the location right on the loch and beside the great glen trail. There are no powerpoints in the rooms which can make things challenging and they mentioned online that they are close to a supermarket but realistically this is a local post office that I was told may or may not be open.

Simple hostel but ok for a nights stay. Great breakfast but didn't help that the staff slept in on the day and were not too worried about setting up close to 20 minutes late - when you have a flight to catch and you are on a budget, timing and getting what you paid for is important. The hostel does need a little clean/upgrade in some areas, but overall still an ok stay.

Bunk Hostel

We actually enjoyed it so much that we extended our stay and slept in both the 6 and 9 dorm rooms and could recommend both. There isn't as much storage space in the 9 bunk room, but if everyone is considerate, there was no issue at all. The staff were so helpful and were able to accommodate us into the same bed for 2 nights rather than having to change as we ended up making two separate 1 night bookings. Would strongly recommend this hostel.

We had a fantastic stay here and the location was fantastic. We would have preferred the locks on the bedrooms downstairs be updated as they are old school keys so the doors remain unlocked along with other people not closing the door means that people can walk in straight off the street into the room. But aside from that it was great and we didn't feel unsafe at any point.

The best things about this hostel is the location and the gym facilities. The rest simply is just a bed for the night, and you can feel the springs through the thin mattress. There is no change area for the showers as the curtains open straight into the shared basin area. The bathrooms could do with an overhaul but were much cleaner on level 8 then on 9. The cleaning staff do an amazing job considering the amenities. You pay for luggage storage which is only available on check-in or out. No ice.

The dorm rooms were comfortable including the beds and there was sufficient space in the room for bags and to move around. The kitchen and lounge areas are also comfortable and well equipped, however there was at times lacking some cutlery, plates etc, plus it was difficult having a rule where food had to labelled individually rather than in one bag as things would go missing. The downside to this hostel was the bathrooms and would be good to see improved. While still clean, needed upgrade.

The location of the hostel is amazing, plus the facilities at the gym are brilliant. As per previous reviews, the accommodation itself is very very basic and could do with an overhaul. The beds are not the most comfortable as quite thin so you feel the springs a little. The female shared bathroom on level 9 was not very good and would flood everytime that someone has a shower. But overall I would still stay here again as it is still one of the cheapest for the Manhatten area and was central.

Really good hostel and enjoyed the stay. Was great to have the onsite bar and served cheap and delicious meals. Great facilities in the kitchen and really loved the shared condiments, leftover food section as it really helps to have these to create a better meal. I only rated the security down a little as I had some food stolen from my bag in the fridge - but this can happen at most hostels.

When we had initially red the reviews and info about this hostel, we were a little hesitant at first as we just had a nights stopover in Calgary, but we were so glad that we stayed here as the staff are fantastic, everyone at the hostel were so friendly and you could walk into a room and have everyone say hello, so it was so easy to meet and get to know other travellers. The stay was fantastic and by far the cleanest hostel I have ever stayed in, you can tell the owners take pride and the staff work hard. It was also great to see the difference that having a dishwasher in the kitchen made as all cutlery was clean and in good condition. Breakfast had a great range and the facilities on site, i.e. shared bathrooms, wifi, kitchen and the downstairs cinema as great. The only downside for me was that I do not believe that hostels are a place for children.
