Great centrally-located hostel - with very interesting / unusual layout (you can watch people on an indoor climbing wall through a window from the lobby area!) Nice. comfortable basement lounge with lots of seating, bean bags etc. for after-hours DVD nights with other hostellers. A big thumbs up!

Junohall YHA Hostel Waitomo

This hostel has a very "at home" atmosphere, the staff are really chatty and friendly, there's a huge fully-equipped kitchen and lounge with plenty of sofas, TV and a nice collection of DVDs. The hostel takes in orphaned animals (they live outside!), and if you like, you can help out with bottle-feeding baby lambs. Just 5 minutes' walk from The Legendary Black Water Rafting Company office and a 15-20 minute scenic walk to the village.

The facilities in this hostel are incredible - separate reading room & games room (with pool table and music system) & TV / video room, in addition to a large kitchen / lounge area. The location couldn't be better - just around the corner from the bus stop on Courtenay Place where buses can take you just about anywhere!!! The airport bus goes from here, as does the number 2 bus that takes you to the Weta Cave. Mt. Vic Chippery is a few minutes away - the best fush & chups in NZ ;)

Really friendly hostel in the small village of Franz Josef, where the price includes free breakfast, free homemade soup in the evenings and free popcorn anytime you want ;) Every night, the staff light a fire outside where you can sit around and have drinks with fellow backpackers.

Centrally-located hostel, just 2 minutes' walk from where the Intercity buses stop at Athol St. car park. Well-equipped kitchen, 2 free internet computers in the lounge, plus really comfy lounge with huge TV - perfect for the regular film nights. Staff make everyone really welcome, and you can book just about anything at reception. Great dumpling / gyoza shop just across the road, and everything is within easy walking distance. Even the jetty is just 5-10 minutes walk away (jet-boating tours).

A really great, centrally-located hostel, just a couple of minutes from the Octagon, with all its bars, restaurants, shops and statue of Robbie Burns :) The lounge is very homely, with lots of DVDs available to watch, and in the evenings, generally a bunch of people hang out there - both long-stayers and short-term stayers. The hostel has great security (card locks), and even has a free breakfast between 7:30am - 9am. What more do you need? :)

Smart Russell Square Hostel

London, England
77%

A no-frills hostel, located just behind Russell Square subway station - just 10 minutes or so from Euston station on foot. Recommended for young travelers who really need to travel on a budget. The price is amazing for London, and it even includes breakfast! Older travelers may not like the packed dormitories (6 x 3-stored bunk beds), or the smelly pillows - but clean sheets and a pillow case are provided. The lockers under the beds do not lock though... (maybe just mine though?)

Anker Hostel

Oslo, Norway

A really nice clean hostel, with a tram stop just outside, but just 15 minutes or so walk from Oslo central station . Recommend going for the buffet breakfast at Anker Hotel next door - we filled up for the whole day! The staff were extremely helpful - they even took 1 Kg of prawns off our hands which we got as a doggy bag from an evening boat cruise that included a prawn buffet.

Really friendly hostel, great location - just a short walk to the local market and the harbour - staff were extremely helpful, and a really fun atmosphere - in the evening, all the guests hang out in the lounge and it was a lot of fun chatting to people from various countries. A big thumbs-up ;)

Clown and Bard

Nice hostel, around 30 minutes or so walk from the centre of Prague. No lockers in most of the rooms (just in the top floor 36-bed dorm), but each room can be locked, and the reception staff have to buzz people into the 'rooms area' so very good security really. A few good late night options nearby.

Very centrally-located hostel, just 15 minutes or so walk from The Brandenburg Gate. The guy who runs it is very helpful, gave us all a map of Berlin, pointing out all the tourist highlights, and offered to let us leave our bags there for the day after we'd checked out! Highly recommended.
