Location is easy enough to find. Place is also secure and has great staff. Downside is that the place definitely does feel old, and I found it to be rather dirty, especially the bathrooms. I have allergies and am sensitive to dust and mold, so I definitely noticed. Wifi is only available on first floor, no elevator, have to go around the block to use a drier, etc. Mattresses are uncomfortable and it can be hard to climb into the top bunk as the bed is very close to the wall.

I was only in Osaka for the night. The place was easy to find, staff was nice, place was clean, etc., typical J-hoppers! My only complain would be no elevator (have to haul your luggage up the steps) and having to go to another floor to take a shower. However, both are common issues at many hostels. Would recommend staying at J Hoppers Osaka.

Koyasan Guest House Kokuu

Koyasan, Japan

Very roomy "capsule" style accommodations right along the path up the cemetery and to the main temple! Great location. The building is well designed and keeps heat in so it's always warm despite Koyasan being colder. Owner is very friendly and speaks English - the breakfast is a bargain and well worth it. Get up at 5:30 AM and walk up to the main temple to catch the monks chanting. Highly recommend Guest House Kokuu!!

This hostel was amazing. Very clean, had a nice common area, cafe and bar on the first floor, in-house laundry and drier, etc. No wonder it was voted one of the best hostels in Asia. Staff was also very helpful and around at all times of the day and night. Bike rental is also offered at a fair rate which is helpful as I'd recommend biking around Kyoto. Met some great people here from all over and had a good time!
