decent hostel. nothing special about it, nothing terrible. rooms were pretty nice. very central location which was nice - lots of restaurants around the area and parque retiro, royal palace, and reina sofia are all about 20 min away walking. wifi was pretty weak and spotty, sometimes not working, so that's a big downside to this hostel. also there are 6 floors and if you're on the high floors, you either have to walk up a ton of stairs or take a sketchy elevator. staff seemed pretty incompetent.
would not recommend staying here. even in late may/early june, the rooms were like saunas. sleeping was difficult because the rooms were so hot. sure, the bathrooms were clean, but they're also like college dorm bathrooms whereas other hostels have one person bathrooms that you share instead of communal bathrooms. location is not the greatest - far from the beach and arts/sciences museum. staff was a little annoying - felt like overenthusiastic sleep away camp counselors. valencia is also boring
we stayed at hostel palermo because we booked a twin private room. great hostel for barcelona. excellent location - one minute away from las ramblas. friendly staff. private rooms had a sink in them and multiple outlets (unlike other hostels in spain). rooms were cleaned, sheets changed, and new towels provided every day. clean bathrooms. one big factor that hostels don't tell you -- the wifi in this hostel actually works in the rooms, whereas in many other hostels, it only works in the lounge.
