You really need to replace the wooden blinds in the hostel room since it's absolutely impossible to get some sleep after 7am if your bunk is facing the window side. Apart from the construction noise and loud people talking outside the least you can do is do something about your blinds. Wifi is non-existent on the 2nd floor too!
Stayed her for the Full Moon Party, and spent 5 nights in this hostel. This is a party hostel, so your expectations should be immediately adjusted and geared towards long nights, blasting music and a lively atmosphere. I stayed in the 24 Bed Dorm and it has good AC although poorly lit and the lack of individual power sockets was a downer. Paul, the owner however was superb will helping guest and is willing to go an extra mile for them. Hostel is far from Hardin so expect to shell 100BAHT 4 taxi
If you want to be able to have a good nights sleep and away from the hustle and bustle of typical Thai Party hostels, this is the right place for you. Stayed in 4 Bed Dorm and it was clean with good sized lockers. Bedroom was cool and a good break from loud hostels. This is somewhat far from the excellent beaches in Samui but near enough to walk to the Arc Bar and Green Mango for some mad partying in Samui. Conveniently right beside the 7/11, this hostel was a good value for your money and sleep
Located at the heart of the famous Pingpong and Party Bangla Road. Stayed in a 6 bed dorm which had good AC and the bathrooms were pretty spotless. I didn't mind that it was only separated by a shower curtain, but the place was pretty neat considering the amount you pay for it. The only minor downside were the bottom bunk heads were too low. Nonetheless, good place to stay in before hitting Phi Phi Islands. Cheap, clean and affordable. Most definitely come back!
I only stayed here for 1 night to transit through Malaysia and thought the basic 8 Dorm room was subpar, I've seen better hostels. Although security was very good, but the beds were squeaky and the AC's were set up outside the room with ventilations on each dorm room. Definitely the type of hostel you can have a good nights sleep after hitting Reggae bar across the street. This is near Chinatown which is one of the few redeeming factors, but nonetheless good for a 1 - 2 nights stay.
By far the prettiest hostel I've ever seen. This was an excellent choice when visiting Russia!
The Led Zephyr hostel is conveniently situated near the Serendipity beach. It's about a 5 minute walk to get to the beach and walk through the series of restaurants/bars/clubs around Sihanoukville. The hostel itself as I stayed in the 12 bed dorm was very small and somewhat cramped up. The aircon wasn't too cool, nor hot and it helped that they had some electric fans installed. The beds were very squeaky but overall the place is sufficient for 1 - 2 nights of quick stay.
The Mad Monkey is an excellent place to stay in if you want to meet new people, particularly within the age bracket of 20 - 27 year old backpackers out for a good time. Besides the good atmosphere, the bunk beds are very big and clean. Each bed has a power supply and led light. The abundance of toilet paper is a plus. The only major issue I had with the hostel is the extremely poor wifi connection at their Phnom Penh branch. Most of the guests had virtually no internet.
Bodega Hostel is perfectly situated at Soi 23 around Sukhumvit area. It's near the Terminal 21 mall, which is a massive shopping complex. Hostel is near the MTR which is very convenient. Take note they turn off their aircon after 9AM upto 5PM which is basically the ONLY downside (in addition to the very hot bathroom). Good party hostel if you want to meet and mingle with people. The owners, 3 young men from Wisconsin operate the hostel and definitely know how to have a good time!
