Safe and tranquil, if a little dark. Ideal for the more mature voyager; if you love Uruguay, you'll love Destino26.
Perfect location by the beach, free surfboards, great breakfast, lovely evening meals to share stories of your triumphs on the waves/your charming attempts at desperately flailing whilst the waters crashed over your talentless body. Exactly the right number of stoners. Although book things yourself rather than relying on the otherwise very helpful (one guy forgot to book a bus for us). Smashing hostel.
Not a perfect location for the international bus terminal and for transport to the Falls. Slightly overbearing staff who seemed perturbed by our making independent plans. Otherwise, clean rooms, a small swimming/paddling pool, exceptional (and growing!) Budweiser palisade and a terrace area to meet fellow-minded fun-loving globe trotters like yourselves.
The only hostel at which I ve seen each bed have its own plug socket and reading light. Typifies this hostel's modern feel - a hostel run by people who have actually stayed in a hostel before. Plug sockets in lockers for charging of valuables whilst you gallop through São Paulo's skyscraper-lined monuments to the automobile are a further boon. Great staff create a homely atmosphere (if you home has a slightly subpar breakfast).
The recipe for this hostel would read. Start with an ample base of excellent breakfast, replete with fresh fruit and abounding in scrambled eggs. Flavour with friendly staff, a good location for boat trips around the island and to the mainland, and buttock-clenchingly occasional wifi. Liberally sprinkle on danger for the light sleeper with triple decker dorm bunks. Add water if you can actually get into one of the insufficiently numerous bathrooms.
