Hereda Surf Hostel, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Great experience with excellent service from Angel and his crew. We had BBQs and great times watching the World Cup games. Located right now the beach with some great surf and a low key, relaxing environment. Only thing is that if you are planning to spend a lot time in the heart of Rio (aka Copacabana), its an hour or more bus ride. I would for sure stay there again. Absolutely loved it.

Hercus Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

They location is great for partying in Lapa, but it's not the safest of places at night. Doesn't help that his place is pretty disorganized and don't have very clean facilities. The dorm rooms are not very comfortable and they have zero lockers to secure money or passports. There were some nice people but I don't think I would stay there again, mainly because of the price. Not much value for the price I paid.

Excellent location right on the Savassi Square, where there are a lot of great food places and some great night life. Very helpful staff and great environment with other visitors. Never had their breakfast or went into upstairs to the kitchen, but everything else was great. I would for sure go back and stay there again.

Samba Rooms Hostel, Belo Horizonte, Brazil

The place is right on a major street and is walking distance to a lot of tourist locations and nearby Savassi Square. The place is cool, but reminded me of a hippie old frat house and things are somewhat messy but they have lockers and good bathroom facilities and living room area. Was there for only one night, but met some great people through there and wouldn't mind going back and staying longer. Price was a bit steep but I believe that was mainly due to the World Cup.

Had a great time there for the World Cup. Nice, quiet location in Santa Tereza but just a quick bus ride, metro ride or cab ride to the heart of Belo Horizonte. It was my first hostel experience and it was a good time with very helpful staff who were very informed about all that was going on in the city with the events and everything to do in the time you want to do it. Would suggest this place to anyone looking for a mellow place to stay yet still meet people and have fun.
