Las Musas Hostel

Madrid, Spain

Very close to metro stop and plaza with restaurants. Walking distance to Royal Palace. Staff were friendly. Party vibe.

Duermevela Hostel

Segovia, Spain

Small city so you can walk to everything but being located on a quiet street was nice. Staff were super helpful and recommended a great restaurant as well as a gorgeous walk.

Melon District Poble Sec

Barcelona, Spain

Best security of places we stayed. Close to a metro station and lots of restaurants and grocery stores nearby. "Laundry on location" is actually a door into a laundromat that is open to the street so we had some interesting company. Ensuite bathroom was like a train bathroom with a shower crammed in.

Freedom Traveller

Rome, Italy

Booked a private room so they took us around the corner and down the street to a different building. Not a nice street (full of sketchy people one night and police all day the next day). Restaurant they recommend was incredibly rude. 'Luggage room' appeared to be a leaky shed. The staff were friendly and helpful. Close to train station.

Leonardo House

Florence, Italy

Close to the train station as well as many sights. When we checked-in the staff were super helpful and marked on a map where many sights are located. Bathroom was not the cleanest.

Locanda Ca' Le Vele

Venice, Italy

Very close to water taxi stop. Short walk from the train station and St Mark's Square. Staff were friendly. Room was spacious and clean.

Hotel Schmellergarten

Munich, Germany

Close to subway station. Great included breakfast compared to others. Only one shower. Close enough to a bar that it was loud with live music at night.

PLUS Berlin

Berlin, Germany

Nicknamed 'the palace' on our trip. Great hostel. Close to train station, grocery store, restaurants and bars. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice courtyard area. Has a common room with pool tables etc. Decent restaurant in hostel. We loved the beer vending machine in the lobby. It made doing laundry more enjoyable. We had a private room with ensuite and it was HUGE compared to other places.

Hotel Andre Gill

Paris, France

For security they have a camera at the front desk (not always a person there) and you have to hang your key up before you leave and you just grab it when you walk back in. The street the hotel is located on is used by a bunch of people in the evening to drink, passout, etc.

Astor Victoria

London, England

The only drinkable water source is the sink in the kitchen. Sinks in the rooms and bathrooms are all marked 'do not drink.' Only 3 lockable luggage cages in a room for 4 people. Not enough bathrooms for a hostel this size (though we read that complaint for other hostels in London as well). Internet signal was so weak that in our room on the fourth floor it did not even register as an available network (not a device issue and other areas of the building the signal was weak or nonexistant).

Kick Ass Hostels

Edinburgh, Scotland

Staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the free walking tour. At first the co-ed bathrooms seemed a bit odd but we never had an issue using them. We liked the bar/hangout area and the ability to get breakfast right in the hostel. Decent rooms with lockers in them. Luggage storage was also lockers (which we really liked!) instead of just an open room like at some places.
