Great hostel. Excellent location inside the city wall. Do the Terracotta Warriors tour - it's only an extra $17 for the tour compared to going there without a guide - less hassle
Far from '100%' or 'amazing'. 'Kitchen' is a microwave, sink, fridge. 'Common room' is kitchen & hallway/reception area, desk, computer. No curtain in room.
Small 3 brm apartment with bunk beds - 1 apartment out of about 5 on 7th floor. I could only just sit up on the bottom bunk, but I couldn't sit up straight (I'm only 152cm / 5feet tall). As there was only 1 bathroom, they needed curtains around the bunk beds for privacy. 2mins walk from subway. The person running the hostel doesn't live in the hostel - she doesn't arrive until 11am which is the checkout time.
Great location, close to trams
Security is low because you can walk straight through a front/side door upstairs to the bedrooms and the bedroom door on the twin room is a thin ply wood. Hostess is lovely - a real character! Very small common area - cramped dining room with kitchen attached, but sociable if the right people are staying there. Clean with basic facilities. Located in suburb away from central areas but close to metro.
Good showers and toilets but lacked a kitchen (it has a microwave and a fridge and that's all) and tourist travel information eg local bus info, their own map showing recommended eateries to try local cuisine, info for travelling to/from Kyoto etc. Security was poor because you could walk straight in off the street and into any one of the rooms if they were unlocked - no separate security entrance between the cafe (presumably owned by the same people and located at street level) and the hostel.
Excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities incl. free tea and coffee, shampoo, body wash, facial tissues, paper towels, cotton buds, hair drier. Common area kinda lacked a natural socialising atmosphere. Lots of tourist info. Excellent JR train links (can use Japan Rail Pass) including the JR metro lines (not all metro lines are JR btw, so there are some you need to pay cash for - usually only US$1.70-US$2.40). Easy access to tourist and non-tourist (but interesting) spots.
