Grand Hotel de Nantes

Nantes, France

Pretty good location next to Nantes main shopping district. A hotel, not a hostel. Easy 4 stops on the tram from the train station.

Four Courts Hostel

Dublin, Ireland

Wasn't on any transportation lines, but only 5-15 minutes away from all of them. Very large hostel, there were a few travel groups who dominated the lobby a bit while I was there. Meeting people was a bit hard. Breakfast ended a little early at 9:30. "Eco-friendly" showers required pushing a button every 20 seconds to keep on, but also got uncomfortably hot, no temperature control. Great place for groups, so-so for individuals.

Queen Elizabeth Chelsea

London, England

Kane was the only staff member I really interacted with, but he was great--helpful and fun to talk to. The place is a little out of the way--10 minute walk to Fulham B'way tube station, but the lack of immediate surroundings (and bar in the hostel) helps create a great atmosphere in the hostel. A great choice for anyone who can accept a 20-50 minute trip home from wherever they are in London.

The room was serviceable, but as a nonsmoker, being in a room with two smokers was pretty annoying. The breakfast was nothing to speak of, just croissants, rolls, coffee, and juice. Good location less than 50m from the Metro.

Thanks for your feedback, the whole hotel is non-smoker so no one can smoke inside the hotel (rooms, common areas, balconies). The breakfast is typically French (croissants, bread, milk, coffee, juice, jam, etc.). We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you at another time. Kind regards, The Regent Staff

Paris, France

Small but wonderful private room, TV was a nice bonus considering the price. A bit of a hike to the Metro, but the neighborhood was lovely, with plenty of bakeries, fruit stands, and restaurants, plus a supermarket and wine store all within 5 minutes wall.

Auberge Bagatelle

Avignon, France

Attached to a campground on an island in the Rhone. Mattresses were nothing to write home about and the room had few power points. Location was isolated but an easy 10 minute walk into town. Poor security: no lockers in the room, multiple rooms sharing a single porch.

Antares Hostel

Nice, France

Being located within 150m of the train station was a major plus for me. 20min walk to the beach could be cut short by the tram for €1,50 per ride or a day pass for €5. Rooms were quite serviceable. Mine had large cages under the beds for secure storage, with locks available from the front desk for a deposit. Bathroom was a little grungy, but not too bad. They offer spaghetti nights often (every other night?) for 3 euro, great value and a great way to meet fellow travelers.
