Lake View Hostel, Guatape, Colombia
6.6
22nd May 2017

I may have been a bit harsh here but I don't feel like this place quite deserves the ratings it has. Guatape is beautiful and the hostel has a nice spot overlooking the lake. In all honesty the hostel felt like it had been built as cheaply as possible and things were broken, bad quality or just not working as a result. The staff were all very new to their jobs/volunteers and didn't really have much of an idea of what was going on. Atmosphere was flat except for the aggressively chatty manager.

Chillin District Hostel, Medellin, Colombia
10.0
16th May 2017

I don't think I've ever given a hostel 10/10 so this is saying something. The chillin district is incredible. It's quite literally like sharing a house with all your friends. Great atmosphere and very communal areas where you get to meet everyone. Most the people staying there end up extending for weeks. The staff are great, the property is beautiful and the facilities are first class. Best hostel I've been to all trip. Couldn't recommend it any higher. GO THERE!

I really loved this hostel. It's run by a great family and it's the perfect size to meet and get to know all the other guests. The atmosphere is very relaxed and fun. Lovely air conditioning in the rooms too and a good kitchen facility. Wifi works well. JC (the owner) and his family are very welcoming and helpful; they also take an interest in all their guests and talk to them a lot which was great. Their kitten is also adorable. Thanks so much - would recommend highly!

A lot of really great things about this place: amazing location a mototaxi ride out of town, incredible food, real friendly staff and very communal feel. Hammocks are obviously cool as well. The weather right now is super rainy so it's not a great time to go if I'm honest.

The Dreamer Hostel, Santa Marta, Colombia

4th May 2017

It's a decent hostel with all the regular facilities (plus a pool!). Staff are all really really friendly and helpful. Location isn't great but the bus is cheap into town and out of town. That said, this place reminded me of a soulless European resort where Brits go to get drunk and lie by the pool all day on holiday. It has definitely not got a backpacker feel to it and I left as soon as my two night booking was up. Better places elsewhere

Pariwana Hostel Cusco, Cusco, Peru
9.4
16th Apr 2017

From the moment you walk in the atmosphere is good. There always people about outside playing table tennis or chilling on bean bags. Breakfast is pretty good and stays open until 12! No wifi in rooms but plenty of places to sit with it. Who wants to sit on their bed all day anyway. Good BBQ and always stuff going on at night. Rooms are close to the action and can be a wee bit noisy though. Would stay again no doubt. So much better than ecopackers where I was before

Ecopackers, Cusco, Peru

14th Apr 2017

Not quite sure I understand why this place is so highly rated. It's good and the courtyard is nice but the atmosphere when I was there was dead. Seems to be full of wheelie baggers waiting to do the inca trail. Spent two nights here and moved to Pariwana - big difference in the atmosphere and clientele. Way way more fun. Ecopackers feels a bit stuffy. Male bathroom completely out of order when I was there.

Lovely hostel - good location, wifi, friendly staff, comfortable beds. Breakfast is ok, bread rolls, tea and some bananas. Good crowd and atmosphere. The outdoor area looked nice but I didn't use it much. Yeah.

Wild Rover Backpackers, La Paz, Bolivia
8.9
1st Apr 2017

I had four thoroughly enjoyable nights here but I couldn't help feel like it was a little bit inauthentic. The majority of the crowd don't seem very interested in seeing La Paz, rather they want to dance on the bar and enjoy their gap year adventures... It felt a little bit tragic at times but if you put in the effort you can escape. The staff were super friendly and helpful, wifi was slower than an asthmatic slug. DEFINITELY try and get a dorm away from the bar and courtyard!

Dear Jamie, Thank you for choosing Wild Rover La Paz and giving us a good review. We are so pleased to know you thoroughly enjoyed our nights and stay in general! We strive to provide our guests with a stay they’ll remember. We are currently in the process of improving our wifi and in actual fact we have seen great improvement. Unfortunately wifi is not particularly the best in Bolivia, however we strive to provide good connectivity and we are sorry it wasn't so during your stay. Good to know! If you are still travelling S.A, don't forget, we have a Wild Rover Cusco (our brand new and impressive build) and a Wild Rover Arequipa with its very own pool. Come and say hello! All the best with your future travels. Best wishes, Wild Rover Team

A quiet but charming number this one. Beautiful garden area and roof terrace. Located a block or two from the main square. Staff very friendly and helpful. Pretty good atmosphere - definitely no party hostel. Wifi was slow at the best of times but thats just Bolivia. Would recommend.

Hostal Laskar, San Pedro de Atacama, Chile
8.9
23rd Mar 2017

Hostal Laskar had a really nice outdoor communal area and there were plenty of people to meet (lots of French...). It felt further out of town than other hostels but San Pedro is small and the walk probably only took 5 minutes. No lockers in rooms but had a nice bathroom shared between three others ensuite. Staff are very friendly and helpful, though the tours they offer seem to be much more expensive so shop around in town for a better deal.

Decent hostel for a one night, no frills lay over. Nelson (and family) were all very friendly and helpful. You get the feeling you are staying in someone's house, which quite literally isn't too far from the truth. Wi-fi and breakfast were good. Heating in the dorm was a bit all or nothing. Hot to start, cold in the morning. Perfectly happy with my 1 night stay but would book elsewhere if staying for longer.

I loved this place. Sebastian the owner is a bit of an oddball but if you don't take yourself too seriously, or anything he says too seriously, you will get on famously. He runs a real tight ship, despite being totally relaxed, and the hostel is always super clean. Great communal area that makes meeting people easy. Would highly recommend.

Charming little number this one. Honestly two of the friendliest staff members I've come across. Really lovely and helpful, almost felt like they were guests as well as they chatted to everyone. Located near the bus station and other useful amenities. Ideal for a quick one night stay. The walls are VERY thin though...

Nice quiet hostel ideal for a night or two preparing before trekking Torres del Paine. Staff were friendly and helped me book various buses. Breakfast was top nosh. Word of warning, they are ridiculously fussy about the quality of bank notes you pay them (in US dollars anyway)

Real nice hostel - great facilities (e.g pool table and fun courtyard areas). Equally good location if you actually want to get out of the hostel and see the city. Plenty of people to meet, very social. Maybe not your best bet if you want to sleep 10+ hours a night. Nice pink bush outside.

Stayed here for a night before a flight the next day. Shuttle from the hostel to airport was really handy and very well priced compared to alternatives (as long as you're not the only one in the shuttle). One bathroom with a single shower for every bloke in the hostel isn't ideal. Outside area by the pool was nice though. Not bad.

super nice and fun hostel. very friendly and helpful staff, good sitting down facilities and 5 star free breakfast! The beds are pretty jokes however - I've slept on more comfortable floors. wifi is poor at best. So if you plan to sit in bed on the internet all day this ain't your best bet for a place to stay.
