Overall fine hostel, but our room was either very warm, or if we had the window open, noisy from the street outside. Ensuite shower was surprisingly great!

Really well run hostel in an awesome neighbourhood. Cleanest bathrooms I've seen and very clean rooms. Each bed has a locker, outlet and small cubby for phones etc which was really great. Bar and restaurant are great. No noise at night. Good food in the cafe, but they did NOT serve the waffles they advertised in their menu (and probably a few other things), saying that they were only available at their sister hostel down the street. Overall fantastic hostel though.

Just the right size hostel with an awesome common room. The DVD player hasn't worked in a while... The owner was nice and helpful but some of the other staff did not speak English. If you're leaving early, do not leave your food in the kitchen because it will be locked!! There's a separate fridge in the dining hall. Hostel wasn't very noisy. Overall good stay

The bathrooms really felt clean and were well stocked with soap. The lockers in the room were great. The man at the desk gladly helped us figure out our bus route which was nice. My only complaint was that in the evening, guests downstairs were constantly letting their door slam against the wall (because the dead bolt was out). There didn't seem to be any staff doing anything about it.

Friendly staff. Extremely loud guests slamming doors.. Hostel is too big for the staff to notice or do anything about it. And too big in general... Not a very homey atmosphere. Hammock room is nice. En suite bathrooms were very minimal and not very clean or well equipped. Be early for the free breakfast or you'll be stuck with only toast. Location is excellent.

Owner is exceptionally friendly. Dorm was clean. Free pancake (crepe) and coffee/tea for breakfast and only RM1 for an extra crepe... Delicious pumpkin curry. Wifi works best in lobby. Bathrooms ok. Good value.

The woman (owner?) is VERY nice and professional. Her English is excellent. But, the man who was there most of the day can barely speak a word of English and was not helpful. Breakfast is good: essentially all you can eat toast with jam, as well as oats and milk, and coffee. Right outside the entrance is a decent, cheap Indian food court, open 24 hours. Hostel courtyard/lounge area is small but nice - you might want bug spray! Showers/bathrooms are very small, but the water is heated.

Fantastic staff that really like their job. They were more than happy to recommend things to see and do. Free breakfast of coffee/tea with unlimited fruit and toast with peanut butter, jam, Nutella, and delicious green stuff? Closest subway station is about ten min walk. Bathrooms aren't the cleanest. Rooms quite crowded with everyone's bags in there. For singapore, decent value, I think...

Still under construction. Got excited when I saw a sign saying there was a bouldering wall, but it hasn't been built yet. Owned by a Thai man and his Kiwi girlfriend. The man talked very softly making it hard to understand him, and I never knew if he was talking to me or just talking out loud. The atmosphere was just very weird/awkward. The sinks aren't great; they make the water splash all over. Otherwise dorms and bathrooms are clean. Great breakfast place across street, walk few steps right.

Awesome place to chill or to party, whatever you like. Everything pretty clean. Wifi not great. Food and drinks quite expensive but I'm sure it's like that everywhere on the island. All front staff are British/Australian and very pleasant. Anything you want, you can get it at the resort, and the beach is just a two minute walk away.

Thanks for the awesome feedback! We try to offer a little something for everybody. At Shiralea you can party the night away with fellow travels then in the morning treat your self to our famous BIG breakfast, then lounge around the pool and soak up some sun. We try to offer top quality food at a reasonable price everyday. Its was great to have you stay with as, and we hope you make it back again soon. Regards Shiraela

Awesome place. Less than 5 min to nearest metro station, which is one stop away from Hualumphong rail station. 20 min walk to river where you can catch water taxi to attractions in the old city. Probably the best bathrooms I've seen in any hostel - clean, tidy and soap and shampoo dispensers. Staff is very nice. There's a guitar but it needs some tuning/strings. Three computers for guests. Free coffee, tea, hot chocolate and bananas. Nice dorms, but the lockers are too narrow and upright.

Gongkaew Chiangmai Home, Chiang Mai, Thailand

This is a very chilled out hostel in a quiet part of Chiang mai (but still within the moat). The common area is completely opn air and they have a nice garden, so it's a really great spot to just relax and read a book (which they have a ton of). But be warned, there are mosquitoes. Free toast, coffee, tea all day. Dorms and bathrooms very clean. Lockers small and located outside dorms. Bring your own lock. As a quiet guy who likes nature, this has been my favourite hostel in Thailand.

Hak Boutique Residence, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Hak was the most courteous of the staff, being the owner, but the rest of the staff were not very helpful nor friendly. I hired a tuk tuk driver through the hostel for Angkor wat and he was very unpleasant and told us we would not have the whole day at Angkor as promised by Hak. The area is a bit sketchy at night - about a 20 min walk to pub street. The dorms are very cramped but quite clean. They do make fantastic mango smoothies... And they have an awesome selection of movies and shows.

Great lounge areas, inside and by the pool. Bit of a walk to areas of interest. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Music stays loud past 10pm. Lots of variety on their menu but most dishes are 3.50-4.00 U.S. Beef loc lac is delicious!!!

Too big for my liking - too many people. It doesn't have the cozy feel of a genuine hostel, it's definitely more of a hotel. The bathroom is shared between 3 rooms, although they had soap, including in the showers. They have free breakfast and free unlimited coffee and a pretty awesome rooftop lounge. Staff was friendly. Wouldn't stay again only because I prefer smaller hostels.

John (owner) and staff were extremely friendly and personable to me and all other guests. They provided free tea and coffee at all times, a free beer every day during "happy hour", and several meals, including a giant feast as part of the Tet celebration where they invited members of the family. John even drove me to the train station for free, and another girl showed us some great food. The beds are very hard and one of the dorms very cramped. No shower/toilet separation so floor is always wet.

Nice place, very clean. Very nice staff. Was warmly welcomed. The dorm is quite spacious and has comfortable beds. The shower isn't separated from the rest of the bathroom so the bathroom floor is usually wet. Meals are NOT included. Make sure to go for the beef stir-fry in the breakfast section of the menu... It's the cheapest meal at $2. Most other things are around $4-5 and I don't think there's anything else around. They do cave tours, from $50-65. Very quiet place. Across from the beach.

Big party hostel, even though they call themselves a hotel. I wouldn't recommend this place to families or couples who want a quiet getaway. They hold your passports until you've paid which is unnecessary. I asked someone to clean my bed after the last guest just left, and I'm 90% sure they just rearranged the sheets and pillow. It didn't look or feel clean at all. The blanket and the walls were dirty.
