We stayed in the 16 bed mixed dorm, it's a good size for the number of beds in there although it could easily be split in to two 8 bed dorms which would be better. The beds are comfy too. The doors to the dorm didn't close automatically so were often wide open so not great for security. The communal facilities are all in good condition and well organised. The place is very clean too. The girl that checked us in wasn't the most helpful or friendly. It is a bit over priced for what it is too.

This is a nice hostel and in a fairly good location for Yosemite National Park. We had a room in the white house over the road and they upgraded us from a twin to a double which was good. The kitchen was decent but lacking in cutlery and utensils. The bathroom had a good shower too. The wifi only works near reception but it is really fast so worth the short walk over the road. Plenty of free parking too.

Upon arrival at around 1am my wife and I found out we were being put in to separate dorms. They had no other free beds so we just had to suffer the consequences of their useless booking system. When I got to my room I had the squeakiest bunk bed I have ever known so got hardly any sleep. The next morning we asked to move rooms, they kept saying they couldn't do it but after I spoke to the manager they magically figured it out. The staff are lazy and don't care. They ruined our one day in SF!

The whole hostel is pretty worn out and needs to be updated. There are no lockers and doors to the building are left open all night. The Mosquitos are also a nightmare, we got at least 30 bites each during our 3 night stay. The bug screens are inadequate and the external doors don't have any screens at all. Everything in the kitchen is pretty grubby and needs washing before use. The fan in the mixed dorm is also broken so it was very hot! The staff were good guys and the wifi is good too.

We had a generally good stay here. The facilities are all pretty good and clean. The wifi is good too. Security was our only issue, we found the dorm door had been left open during the day by the cleaner as no one else from the dorm had been back all day. Also the dorm keys work for all dorms so not only the people in your room can gain access, a pretty odd system! The two Jared's who work there are good guys and very helpful too.

This is a decent hostel which is only a 1 minute walk to the nearest JR station which was really handy for us with our JR passes. The guy that checked us in was great so we had a nice welcome. The 4 bed dorm was clean and spacious. The biggest annoyance was having to go from the 9th to 1st floor for a shower. The showers were really good though. Free tea and coffee anytime and really good wifi too.

In 6 months of travelling so far this is the best hostel we have stayed in. It is more like a hotel than a hostel. The room and ensuite were modern and clean, the breakfast was good too but it was the amazing staff that made our stay so good. We arrived late and were greeted by such a friendly guy when we arrived (rare for a hostel when getting in late). They helped us book trips and train tickets and even posted something back home for us doing all the leg work. I could go on. Amazing place!

This is a fairly decent hostel. The staff are really helpful and the free airport transfer was a nice touch. The bathroom was tiny which is a little annoying but everything worked so can't complain too much. We stayed for 3 nights and the room wasn't cleaned once despite being advertised as having daily cleaning. Our bin was overflowing by the time we left so sorting this out would have improved our stay!

We stayed in a 4 bed dorm for 7 nights over the F1 Grand Prix weekend. Prices were a bit high because of this but I guess it's the same everywhere. The beds were comfy and there are lockers in the room for valuables too. The shared bathrooms are good with decent showers. The kitchen is ok, probably a little small for the size of the hostel. On site laundry is handy too. Its an old building so floors are creaky. It's also on a main road so it's noisy in rooms at the front of the building.

This is a nice hostel and only a short walk from the main street. We had a private room in the ski lodge which was nice. The kitchen and bathroom we shared with one other room were also decent enough. A big downside was the free wifi not working in our room. It only worked in the communal area for us. We stayed there in February and were eaten by sandflies in the communal area so stock up on insect repellant. The treats in the evening were a nice touch too!!

A decent hostel close to the airport so is a handy stop for an early departure or late arrival. Good airport shuttle service run by the hostel too. We had a private double which was nice enough. The bathrooms were in a fair condition. The communal kitchen looked decent enough although we only used a couple of things. A nice TV room/ communal area too.

The main issue we had with this place was one member of staff (a young Asian girl on reception, didn't get her name) who was rude to both my wife and I on separate occasions. They also made us change rooms on the last night which was frustrating. I had phoned to extend our stay by one night a few weeks before and asked if we would be in the same room but it was put through as a separate booking so wasn't linked to the original one. Also stupid policy on deposit for crockery and cutlery!

This was a really nice hostel with a nice chilled out vibe. The guy on reception was really helpful when checking us in and showing us around. There is a large kitchen and communal area which is pretty decent. The dorm beds were comfy. The bathrooms are in good condition and showers are excellent. It's a bit of a walk from the town centre but not too far. A supermarket is a few minutes walk away too.

This is a decent hostel although it attracts a bit of a younger crowd and there is a bar downstairs so it wasn't the most relaxing hostel we have stayed in. The facilities are all good and the guy that checked us in and helped us out with activities was great. There is a good kitchen upstairs and clean bathrooms. The beds in the dorm were comfy too. Would like to see lockers in the rooms as the doors don't self lock on closing.

Thanks for the review we have looked at lockers in the rooms and we find they take up 2 much space. We have 24 lockers at reception under camera surveillance and next to the reception desk its pretty safe. appreciate the kind words guys travel safe

This is a really nice hostel with good clean facilities all round. The big issue here is the very expensive wifi as other reviewers have mentioned. There is free wifi at the library in town but if like us you arrive at 5.30pm and leave the next morning this isn't much use to you. Switching wifi providers would to give some free or lower cost wifi would make this hostel pretty much perfect.

View Property Reply

Hi thank you for taking the time to write a review we are pleased that you enjoyed our facilities. As for the wifi well out of my last 36 reviews 2 wanted it free, and 3 complained about the price rest did not see a problem. not quite a big issue? Perhaps we should provide guest with 100mb of free internet, but of course then we couldn't do the free breakfast, so I guess its just what you prefer. Real mattresses as to rubber, breakfast or internet? Perhaps time for a survey? Regards Jean

We probably would have given this hostel 100% had it not been for the horrendously creaky bunk beds in our 4 bed dorm (room III). If anyone moved in the night it meant that everyone usually woke up. Please replace these for future guests sanity. Apart from that it is great. Big lockers in the dorms, good wifi, good kitchen and communal areas, really nice balcony with view of the bay, good showers and bathroom facilities and a really nice atmosphere. The staff are great too.

We got a bad impression of this place as soon as we checked in as the girl on the desk wasn't exactly friendly. Fortunately the owner and the other staff were nice and helpful when we asked for anything. We were put in a 4 bed dorm with 2 long stayers that were cleaning at the hostel. It would be ideal if they were in a dorm with other long stay people as they tend to mix with each other more anyway so it made the atmosphere a bit strange for us. Good free wifi. Clean kitchen and bathrooms too.

Sorry to hear you did not enjoy your room, we don't have longtermers during the summer and normally our cleaners are very chatty, all the best with the rest of your trip.

This is a nice hostel with good all around facilities. The TV room with sky sports was a bonus as we wanted to watch the tennis. The biggest frustrations were people sat outside the dorms smoking and there are also a lot of flies but this is just a general Picton thing I believe. Just round the corner from the town and next door to a nice bakery too.

We found the atmosphere of this place a bit strange. There was a large group there that were like a Saga group which was odd for a backpackers so I don't think that helped. The kitchen is also full of flies which is pretty horrible when they land on your food. The showers were also cold when we got back from a day of kayaking which was annoying. You have to pay for wifi too and its not great. The dorm we were in was nice and big. There is a decent TV room with some DVD's and the garden is nice.

We stayed here for 1 night in the 6 bed dorm. You just get a mattress on the floor which isn't great and you are basically in the roof space of the hut with very little ventilation so it gets ridiculously hot! The kitchen and bathrooms were decent. You also had to pay for wifi and can only use it by the main building and not in the dorms. Nice remote location though if that is what you are looking for.

This is a generally good hostel and is clean and tidy throughout. The kitchen and bathrooms are good. The 8 bed dorm was a decent size although got quite hot and the aircon couldn't be switched on. There were free lockers just outside the room which was handy. The TV has a great selection of films and TV shows on a hard drive. The downsides were the bedding was old and worn with very thin pillows and the outside seating area at the back of the kitchen didn't have a segregated smoking area.

This hostel has a lovely lakeside location and is pretty laid back and relaxed. The 6 bed dorm we stayed in was a bit small as there wasn't much space once everyones bags were in and there were no lockers in the room. The TV room and kitchen were a good size and there is a nice little garden with BBQ. The bathrooms were clean and in good condition. The cleaners did a great job each day. The hostel is in a great location, very close to town but not in it so its a bit quieter. The wifi is free and unlimited and is pretty fast. The free soup each night is good. This is a big old soulless building. It feels more like a cheap hotel than a backpackers. The atmosphere is really strange although the cafe on the ground floor is ok. The wifi is very slow and doesn't work everywhere. The kitchen is big but doesn't have enough pots and pans. This is a really nice homely feeling hostel. Our biggest issue was not having lockers in the dorm, especially as the room itself does not have a lock on it. The kitchen is very clean and is well stocked with all the pans, utensils, crockery etc that you need. The bathrooms are clean and the showers are really good. It is in a good location only a short walk to the city centre. The wifi is also good and works well throughout the hostel (we were given 1gb each for our stay, plenty for 2 nights).

We stayed here for 11 nights over Christmas in an 8 bed mixed dorm. The room was very very hot most of the time. We knew it didn't have aircon when we booked. The ceiling fans do help but the windows can't be adjusted to get more air in which would be useful. The staff are good and the owner was on site a lot and was really helpful and friendly. The kitchen and bathrooms were good and were cleaned regularly. Wifi is good in all areas. Good hostel with nice atmosphere. Big lockers too in dorms.

We didn't enjoy our stay here mainly because of the noise from the bar and other guests until 4am meaning we didn't get a lot of sleep. The good thing was when we complained on check out we didn't have to pay so that was good of them. There are no lockers in the dorms and all the security warnings and broken car glass on the road outside don't fill you with confidence. The kitchen isn't great and most facilities are basic. The pillows are lumpy too. This place could be so good with a bit of TLC

This is a quiet backpackers and there was almost no one else there when we stayed so it didn't have much atmosphere but it is a lovely place! Everything is really clean, the kitchen is well equipped and it is only a short distance from the centre of town.

This is a really nice relaxing backpackers. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The whole place is clean and the showers are excellent. There is a nice pool in the garden too. We stayed in the dorm. The only issue here is they could do with a couple more plug sockets. It is also only a short walk from the town centre but far enough away to be nice and peaceful! The Wifi is really good too!!!

This hostel is in a very beautiful setting and we had a great stay! The staff are all really friendly and helpful and add to the chilled out vibe of this place. There are lots of things to do near by or you can just enjoy the various walks and facilities at the hostel. They even had some live music on the outside decking on one night which was great!

We really enjoyed our stay at this chilled out backpackers. The owners and volunteer staff were great. They were really helpful and friendly and tried to keep us entertained as much as possible. The place is really clean with all round great facilities. It is in a good location with everything you need nearby.

Not the greatest stay for us at this hostel which provides only the bare minimum. The kitchen is poorly equipped and we found a live cockroach in a drawer one day. The cleaners did there best but the other guests and staff left the kitchen unclean which didn't help! There was a resident drunk there too which wasn't a nice thing when he was staggering about in the afternoon. On our first night we also heard someone trying to get in to our dorm before being removed by the security guard.

This is a novelty place but we wouldn't recommend staying for more than a night. The rooms are small but comfortable. We asked to move room for a better beach view and the staff had no problem with this. It was nice to wake up to the sound of the ocean waves. Parking is available right next to the train and there is a security guard there all night. The shower was huge and had really good pressure. We had to leave early so can't comment on the breakfast.

This is a great hostel. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We booked a dorm but Erin the owner kindly upgraded us to a double with en suite free of charge! It is very chilled out and has a really nice atmosphere. The wifi was good but was only available in the bar area and not in our room. There are great kitchens in both buildings. It was a colourful, vibrant and welcoming hostel. We would highly recommend a stay here!

We stayed here for 4 nights, 3 in the cottage around the corner and 1 in the main house. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. The kitchen facilities were good and the common areas were big enough for everyone. The wifi was generally good but could be slow at times. It is only a short walk to town so is a good location. There is parking directly outside of both buildings. The security was good, this was our first stop and we weren't worried at all. This was a great hostel!
