Second time staying here- it was cleaner than I remembered, and generally comfortable. Josh is a good host, and it's nice having the kitchen and space to hang out. However, it's a pretty small hostel and if you're there during a slow time there aren't many people to socialize with.

This was my 3rd time staying- I like the place, but it seems to get more run-down every time. The staff obviously care about the place, so maybe the owner needs to step up and fix things? The bathroom door in Dorm A had no lock, and didn't stay closed. The bunk beds were so close to the ceiling that I had to crawl in, and it has the overall appearance that the place is falling apart. The common showers near the kitchen were pretty horrifying. But the people are what always make it great.

Best value in Byron Bay! I loved this place, and ended up extending for three more days. Everything is very clean, they have super hard-working housekeepers. The location is a 30 min walk from town, but they have free bike rentals and a shuttle that runs all the time so you barely notice. It's right on the beach, and right next door to a super cute cafe. There's no TV room (I like to watch the news in the morning), but other than that this place is great and I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

Staff were friendly enough, but didn't give off an "approachable" vibe. The common areas were great (kitchen, pool, common room), but it was still a tricky environment for meeting people if you're traveling alone. They say it's a "new hostel" but it's new in the sense that it's obviously an old renovated motel. The rooms themselves are dark and cave-like, and there is a serious lack of power outlets. It felt like when they did the renovation they just stopped at the rooms.

This place is gorgeous, definitely recommend! Security was the lowest score for me since there were no locks on the dorms- it looked like private rooms did have a key, though. The whole place is very open, so anyone could wander in. However, there were lockers with keys provided in the room. The Ubudian Cafe (on site) is amazing, they even walk around by the pool taking orders. The desk staff were great, and helped me with a problem on the morning I left. Lots of fun activities, and comfy beds.

Thanks so much for the kind review :) We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us! We apologise if you didn't feel it was safe, we do not have locks on our dorm rooms however we do have a large locker for each guest to lock away valuables. We look forward to your return :) Safe travels Puri Garden team

For starters, there really should be something on HW about how the hostel is in a church/is part of the church's programs. For most people that won't be an issue, but for people that are uncomfortable being around religious stuff (like me) it gets uncomfortable fast. I marked low for security because there was too much and too little at the same time. No keys for dorms, but the main building has a security code and there isn't always someone at the desk to let you in when you first arrive.

I have the same mixed feelings as I did when I visited a year and a half ago. The donated food and chill common areas make this place worth going again, but it's not within easy walking distance of much and they're an old-school traditional hostel (you do chores). The "old Santa Fe motel" vibe is pretty cool, but the buildings are a bit run down, and the furniture has seen way better days. $20 a night for a bed in a worn-down dorm is acceptable. Adding work on top of that is really pushing it.

Great hostel! I stayed here a year and a half ago, and it's just as I remembered it. Nice common areas, friendly staff, and free continental breakfast. The location can't be beat!!! Just walk outside and you're in super charming downtown Flagstaff. Good for being close to the Grand Canyon and other outdoor adventures too. They only criticism I have is maybe update the bathrooms/showers, it's a pretty cool old building but better water pressure would be cool too!

If you travel with a car, I DO NOT recommend this place. I stopped here for just a night over a holiday weekend, but even on a normal day you have to park in metered spaces that are blocks away from the hostel. The other problem- they shut the hostel from 11-5 every day. Seriously?! Not only is no one at the front desk to help, I was told all the rooms are shut as well. Why is that ok??? The rooms were nice and seemed clean, but if I had had ANY other options, I would have gone somewhere else.

Not a lot going on around here, seemed like it was mostly a launch point for people going to the Krishna Village (which is fine, that's why I was there!). The owner, Tassie, is incredibly nice and does a free ice cream social every night. It's a really cool way to meet the other guests! The beds are super comfy, and the location right on the river can't be beat. Thanks again, Tassie!

You notice the funky smell right away, something like mold and old laundry. There is mold in the bathroom and I found several huge cockroaches in the "Chill Room." Staff are really nice, and the bar staff are fantastic! Wasn't worth paying for the bar crawl though unless you want the Hideout bracelet, the free shots you get are poured right into your mouth and taste like cigarette-infused vodka. A good hostel overall, but not the best.

The biggest problem I had was the nasty carpet- if you know you're in a muddy city, why would you have carpet??? I didn't even feel comfortable taking my shoes off in my room. Everything else was fairly clean. Good little bar upstairs but they close the kitchen pretty early. The staff are always nice, but didn't speak anywhere near fluent English, which made things hard. Also the wifi here is horrendous; they do have 5 computers to use but 3 were broken and unuseable. Good, but lots to work on.

Would syay here again in an instant. I never give 10s, but this place was pretty deserving. The only thing I would say is don't book the Angkor Wat tour through them; our guide barely spoke English and we couldn't understand him. The tuk tuk guys out front are a good bunch who have fair prices, work out with one of them what time you want to go and they will take you around for the day.

Nice beds, good atmosphere, and a lovely pool. It was really easy to meet people around the bar, and since there aren't many cafes or convenient stores close by it was nice that they had a full restaurant too. Staff were nice, but neither the bar ever seemed to have enough change, even when I only used a $20 or a 10.

Overall ok hostel, free breakfast was nice but I always had something in my food (fly, etc.). When I tried to ask one of the staff about the coffee I'd ordered (politely as possible) he just looked at me blankly and walked away without saying anything. Rest of the staff were pretty average, but nice enough. The pool was closed for cleaning while I was there, but it looked like the pool didn't even belong to the hostel. It's down the street a block and a half, not even within view.

Really nice little place right near Chinatown. The building is renovated but still has an "old charm" to it. The staff are friendly, but lack of English can be a bit of an issue and they made the atmosphere in the cafe a bit uncomfortable (awkward service, all-day Celine Dion playlist if there was music on at all haha). The rooms aren't actually dorms, they are little pods with your own sliding door. Not too claustrophobic, and was nice to have my own space. Really not a social hostel though.

Pretty good hostel! The rooms are super nice, but it was weird how dirty the bathrooms were in comparison. They also rarely had toilet paper, some toilets didn't actually flush, and the showers were a total joke. The beds were amazing though, and the light and power outlet by each bed was nice. I've also never seen lockers with a power outlet inside before, pretty cool.

Dorms didn't have "real" floors, just flimsy woven bamboo you felt you were going to fall through. The wifi never worked while I was there, even though guests repeatedly told the staff about the problem. The food they sell is WAY overpriced. The showers barely worked and weren't hot; my last night the water ran brown! Not far from town, a 15 min walk. The view from the pool is great, but the water was filthy. Also it's way more of a circus theme hostel than a "circus school" like they advertise.

Would not recommend. The dorms don't even have doors- we had dogs and cats in the room every night with no way to keep them out. The staff seem more interested in their phones than the guests, and the bar next door seemed to be closed a lot. The location is really isolated, about a 20 minute walk into town. Common room is nothing but an empty loft with a few hammocks. Wifi is poor. There was a cctv camera in the dorm, pointed right at my bed (next to the lockers) which was a bit unnerving.

This place is pretty far from the main city area, which is pretty much the only reason I wouldn't recommend it. The animals are so cute and fun, and the atmosphere is awesome! They do have room keys and lockers, and although it's cheap you feel like you get a bit more than what you paI'd for. The staff are great, only took a point off because there is one staff member that really pressures people into booking stuff through the hostel.

One of the best hostels I've stayed at in a while! Rooftop pool, close to the beach, and in an area full of shops and restaurants where you really feel safe walking around. And a kitchen!! The rooms are amazing and look recently re-done, which was weird because the bathrooms on our floor looked a bit old. They also never seemed to have any toilet paper. The downstairs bathrooms were fantastic though, looked brand new! The staff were ok, but never too friendly and the night guy was pretty gruff.

Had such a horrible night I left early. The people in my room were so insanely obnoxious that I didn't want to be there anymore, which wasn't the hostel's fault. BUT I didn't like that when I needed help dealing with them (and all the blood that one of them had tracked all over the floor) I couldn't find any staff to help me. The music from the bar below wasn't just loud, it literally shook the building and you could feel the vibrations in your body. Desk staff are polite, but somewhat cold.

I loved this place! The staff are great, and the atmosphere is unbeatable. Bar closes at midnight, so not too terribly late if you want to get some sleep. The two things I would suggest would be to just have a few small lockers available since there really is no security, and to get proper mattresses. The futons were really hard to sleep on, barely more than a cushion for a deck chair. I loved staying here and would absolutely do it again, but the rock hard beds are a bit much.

Good cafe/bar with breakfast in the morning, but definitely not a true backpacker vibe. It was very clean though, and the beds were really nice. Common room upstairs was pretty lame, they did a good job laying out the rest of the hostel but it looks like they just gave up when it came to the lounge/kitchen. Kitchen has barely anything in it at all, so cooking your own food doesn't really work. Staff were nice, but it was a bit difficult to communicate sometimes in all English.

Not much in the way of atmosphere, just a small room with a tv. Didn't have a full kitchen so I'd you want to cook your own food it would be quite hard. However, it's very close to tons of cheap places to get food and it's near a really cool Hindu temple and a few other attractions.

This place was the most beautifully bohemian thing I've ever seen. Such a cool building, the only thing I can fault was how cold it got upstairs, freezing! It was really slow, but we knew we were coming in the dead time between seasons. The beds were awesome little pods, super cool and creative. And last, the staff- the girls were rockstars, running the reception, bar and kitchen simultaneously- good service and food.

Definitely a cool place, my boyfriend and I stayed in the mixed dorm for one night and used it as a base to explore all the cool spots in the park. It's a really neat old building, but sooo cold! We sat in the common room for an hour or two and I never felt warm enough to take my coat off. There were lockers in the room, but no locks on the front door or dorm. All in all though, the location was epic and it was a good place to stay!

I left without even staying the night. The room (6 bed dorm) was really gross- smelled bad, hair on the blankets and dried boogers on the sheets, the bathroom was really bad. Building looks like it's falling apart. If you're thinking I sound snooty, I've stayed in (and lived in) some pretty "bohemian" places but nothing like this. When I said I wanted to check out early the staff member didn't even bother to ask why. The only good thing about this place is its proximity to the beach.

Really cool place; the pool alone was worth the stay!! Cool bar, but definitely a huge popular nightclub. It was a little loud in the rooms, but really not too bad. The kitchen was laid out well, each floor had one so people usually weren't piling up on top of each other. Bathroom in the dorm was very practical too, made it easy to share with roommates. Would definitely stay again when I come back.

The beds were really bad though, the double bed we had broke when I sat on it and the dorm bunks were also shakey, squeaky, and one had a piece swinging by the hinges.

After staying at a handful of other Melbourne hostels, I was so relieved to find this place I booked an extra week within half an hour of checking in. Staff are awesome, it's always clean, and location is good too. Only complaint would be the matress, I got the bad one for my room and it's like a rock. Other than that one thing, this place is awesome.

Ranked it low for security because even though you needed a key to even get in the kitchen, and there were lockers under the beds, I would come home every night to find someone had gone through my stuff (or at least tried). Also the cleaners would leave the door to the room wide open with nobody in it. If you're 18 and looking to just hang out and get wasted this hostel is for you. Way too much of a wild party vibe for me, having a room right above the bar sucked.

Really clean and comfy, everything works except the hand dryers, none of which seem to work so there is nowhere to dry your hands. The desk staff were great, everyone was really friendly and helpful. The one person that wasn't was the desk manager, she was usually pretty grumpy and often rude.

Great, adorable little place. If you're looking for a hostel that feels more like a b n b, this is it. Maybe not so much for young backpackers who are looking to be social, but otherwise it's a really nice spot. Great location, right by Salamanca market and easy walk to a grocery store.

Great spot! The staff are incredible, especially Raf, George, and basically all of the front desk people. They really give you an amazing Fijian experience. The 16 bed dorm was open and clean with a beautiful view. They have tons of day trips too, definitely go see the rock pools!

Nice and clean, awesome location but you could hear music from the bar downstairs til 2am and the mattress was the worst I'd ever slept on.

Overall not too bad, but the lockout time and the fact that you have to do a chore really brought it down for me. The rooms were alright, well heated but bathroom really needed fixing up. Also hand sanitizer doesn't count as soap. On the plus side, they have loads of free food donated by whole foods.

Location was pretty good, right near the subway. Clean, good amenities, just not usually a lot going on around the common areas. I'd definitely stay here again.

They don't have much of a kitchen, but other than that it was pretty great. Out of the way location, but they provide a really convenient free shuttle to the train/bus station. They had lots of common areas to hang out it, and staff were always pretty friendly.

Staff were great and everything was nice and clean, but security was really low. You ring a doorbell to get buzzed in, which anyone could just come up and do, and once you're inside, there are no doors. All the rooms have curtains across the doorway. It also makes for a very loud sleeping environment, since you can hear everything that's going on. The kitchen isn't great, just a toaster and a microwave. But all that aside, the location is unbeatable and the staff were really cool.
