Unremarkable, the place is totally fine, clean and has reasonable good facilities. It's close to the Sunday market and good places to eat so it's in a great part of town. Mostly couples so not a lot a great place to meet people but I would recommend.

Yep, stay here. Great facilities in a great part of town. A few streets away from the crazy. Especially good for lone travellers looking to meet people.

Beautiful, clean and fun hostel in a great location in gorgeous Port Douglas. I can't recommend this hostel enough. I had a bad nights sleep on my first night due to a really severe snorer and they quickly helped me move to another dorm that only had one other occupant. Free fun every night, great pool, hammocks, bar, free bike hire - all great. Facilities good and the place is super clean. Definitely stay here.

Hey there! Wow - thanks so much for your kind words (who doesn't like hearing nice things!) - we really appreciate it. Argh! Snorers are the worst! But an unavoidable part of sharing rooms eh. I'm glad we were able to help ease that for you! We work super hard to ensure all our guests have the best time in PD (how gorgeous is it!?) - I'm so glad you got to experience our super events program and hope you took advantage of those hammocks! Beds were clean and comfy, location was great but facilities (bathrooms) left a lot to be desired. There were empty shower gel tubs at the bottom of one of the (few) showers my entire stay and I didn't see anyone cleaning. My room was on a very noisy road and had to keep windows open because A/C didn't work. Very little atmosphere but is a quiet hostel for those who don't want to party. Didn't use the kitchen but looked small.

Hi, did you even walk around the hostel the kitchen and bathroom ( 3 showers, 2 toilets) where not the only ones in the hostel we have 3 other kitchens and bathrooms as well. The air conditioner is automatically turn on maybe you need you just needed to turn it on first

Slice of hippy heaven. The only real negative was there were no lockers in the 10-bed cottage and the front door was left open most days so somewhere to lock my valuables would have been nice for peace of mind. This is the kind of place you come for the friendly, sociable atmosphere though so you won't care about the minor details once you've settled in. Beautiful place and a definitely 'must see'.

Thanks for writing a review Zoe. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Arts Factory. Thank you for the feedback regarding to the lockers. We do have lockers available behind the reception and we don't usually have problem with thieves and it's a nice female community in the lakeside cottage. Happy travels!

Nowhere near as bad as the reviews make out. It's out of the way and needs some serious TLC but rooms, bathrooms and linen are clean, kitchen is big and there's a decent lounge and huge roof terrace. Not particularly social hostel but there is an on-site bar which is probably a good place to meet people. Would stay here again.

Ok. Rooms and bathrooms were clean (if a little small), girls bathrooms even had hair dryers, and beds were comfy. One of the better ones on this strip but has nothing on the YHA. Kitchen was a bit gross and you have to pay a deposit for pretty much everything - even cutlery.

Don't listen to all those bad reviews. Ok, so you probably won't have a secure locker in your room (there are smaller lockers in the hallway) and the place is a little shabby but it all adds to the charm! The bathrooms and beds are CLEAN. They offer great free tours and the staff are friendly and helpful. This is probably one of my favorite Hostels so far and it will be hard to beat. As a lone traveler i found this a great place to make friends and be social, i was never on my own. BOOK IT NOW!

We just bloody love this review! I think you sum up the 'charm' of the place really well :) We don't pretend to be modern, shiny or fancy so not everybody 'gets' the place but most people seem really happy here. So stoked to hear you loved your stay here so much. We get a few comments that say the 'facilities' could be better - but we're really not sure what people want in terms of improved facilities? If you care to share we'd love to hear... info@thepickledfrog.com

Lots of long-termers here so hard to make friends and some work nights at the local casino so expect to have some disturbed sleep when they come in at 3am if you're unlucky enough to be put in one of those rooms. Hostel is definitely clean, toilet and shower facilities are good too and there are enough of them. Great location, walking distance to everywhere and good tram connections. Bed was a little lumpy and uncomfortable but would stay again. Laundry was cheapest I've seen so far!
