Nice Hostel, very comfortable. Very good beds in a quite spacious room. So that was OK. Helpful staff, that helps you with taxis and how to get to the monastery. Sadly Ipiales is only for moving on to Ecuador or towards Cali.

The Traveler Hostel, Otavalo, Ecuador

1st Mar 2023

Well, i stayed 5 days in the end in this lovely hostel. I planned only two nights at first because Otavalo is mostly a stop on the way to Col. or Quito. I was in a 3-bed dorm all alone. Perfectly comfortable bed and extremely modern bathroom at the end of the aisle. Very good showers...You can always ask to speak to someone in english if it is necessary. On the downside is the kitchen that is not very well equipped but you will succeed with your meal. Rooms to the street can be a bit noisier.

La Casa de Cecilia, Mindo, Ecuador

Well, the hostel is in my opinion not something for coming back again. The private room had a moldy stench. You cant get rid of it. But many places made of wood (in Mindo) have the same problem. The Location is OK, not in the center, but directly at a nice creek. Kitchen equipment is OK not the best though. The owner wants to charge for potable water for the guests. This is a clear no go. That should be included like elsewhere. Payment was complicated with a credit card. Room was clean but noisy

English speaking staff, very kind and helpful. The kitchen is next to perfect. There is everything you need. I would say thye location in Quito is also fine just next to the park and all kinds of bus station. Walking to the old city is also possible. Sercurity is also perfect. you get keys. Sadly the mattresses are not the best, some kind of memory foam or just not the newest. Rooms are large enough and you get lockers.

Well, i stayed in a dorm as well as in a private room. The 5-bed Dorm had comfortable beds and an own bathroom. That was fine. The interior of the room and the ceiling...well, see for yourself in the pictures. Lets just just say its "avantgardistic". Your are in Banos for action, so fancy interior does not bother. The private room on the other hand not good. Bathroom is not really separated from the room itself. Thats kind of annoying. Too noisy and too expensive for what you get.

Well, it is more a lodge than a hostel. A hostel pressed into a lodge. It has no hostel flair. Common area is not comfortable. Kitchen and its equipemnt is fine but not perfect. Hostel has a strong touch of over-volunteering and no real manager around who calls the shots leading to the fact that from my laundry a piece went missing/was stolen and then this was denied by a 'vile girl in charge'. Lockers were badly missing and i hope they fixed it until today. Bathrooms, showers are not amazing.

Karandi Hostel, Uvita, Costa Rica

6th Feb 2023

I stayed in a mixed 4-bed dorm with some kind of balcony and with a fan. No AC and this is a problem in Uvita because of terrible humidity. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. There was also a sink in the room. There are bathrooms designated for each room which is a bit ridiculous and there is almost 0 privacy. Big problem is that there is a "curfew" on using the kitchen and this will be imposed without mercy. In the evening when there is everybody hungry....hostel owner should be nicer.

Somehow missed this review, but I have the feeling, an apartment would suit better for you next time. There are rules as in every hotel. It is a hostel, so I am a bit lost on the privacy comment. Enjoy life buddy, is too short ;)

I stayed in the 10-bed dorm which is technically only suitable for 6 beds. There not much space left. No good air at night. This room is simply too tiny. There is also not really a large common area but there is a small kitchen which can be used. For longer stays i recommend the private rooms. It is not far to the supermarkets and the center of cahuita including the park.

Well, the room i was in (8-bed) was simply too tiny for all the people AND their belongings. There are constantly fans blowing at you. The room was quite open, so you can hear everything from the street and the surroundings. Kitchen equipment is ok but not the best. It is anyway a longer walk to the city center. Common areas are fine, nothing to complain about. Sadly Puerto Viejo is constantly overbooked, so is this hostel. Price too high for what you get. Pura Vida!

I stayed in a 4-bed dorm. This was small but still ok. No lockers possible in this room. There are about 6 lockers in the kitchen/reception room but that is by far not enough. This is the common area to meet and to cook. The kitchen equipment is fine. Hostel staff is helpful and righteous. It is a stroll to the city center and supermarket area. What is not so nice is security. All premises in CR have a fence and should have a fence around! That and more lockers should be on the to-do list.

I stayed in a 2-bed dorm which was ok. The window was kind of open/broken but most of the time it was not extremely noisy. The hostel is located remotely outside of La Fortuna but still reachable in a few minutes. The cleanliness was fine everywhere. The common areas are not amazing and the kitchen should be equipped a bit better. It has in my opinion still a very good value for money.

I stayed in a 4-bed dorm which was large enough and with privacy curtains and quite comfortable beds. This hostel has everything a north american hipster/gringo needs. The common area is located in a large hall - you get the feeling of a hangar but in a positive way. Kitchen equipment is fine. There is everything you need. Location is a bit outside of La Fortuna at the street but still not noisy. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this place.

This was definitely my favorite hostel in Central America. Although my room/bed wasnt that perfect. So stay away from the 5-bed dorm if you dont want to have the feet of others near your face. The common area/kitchen is simply the best you can find. Tours are offered and super friendly staff helps you with everything AND you can even pay with Euros. Location is perfect in the center. We also went to the Oasis hostel for a beer pong challenge. Just pick one of these 2 hostels!

All in all it is a good hostel. Problems are that there are no lockers and an extremely bad equipped kitchen. Hostel should offer the basics (oil, salt, pepper...) to their guests. other communal food was way beyond best-by date already. Beds are ok and there are enough fans. staff is very helpful with tours and bus connections.

Hostel is very good, but it is not outstanding. Outstanding is only the host: Carlos. - Good is: you pay on check-out after cumulating everything, breakfast is very good but should be a kind of a buffet, hostel is very clean, kitchen is very well equipped. - Not good is: in the 1st floor there are already real windows, but not in the dorm. Carlos should have them installed also there because the street is a bit loud. Mattresses are made of some kind of memory foam which is a bit annoying.

The 1st thing is to find it. Please place a sign on the street to help people. The beds are comfti and long enough but this room was open. The toilets and showers are very good and the are lockers with a key. that's nice. The big rooftop has potential but there is no tent...couch..chill area. why? if it's a new hostel they should invest into that. and please into a kitchen. Ica is not cheap for everyday restaurant and s-markets are far away. imho too expensive for what you get.

The hostel has a good location in paracas. right next to the main square. it is obviously build at the moment so you have construction there. nice area in the hostel to sit and chill. lockers are not there and that's a big problem in my eyes but the staff is always around. English speaking staff would be better for helping with trips in the area. The kitchen misses a few things but it's still possible to cook everything. toilets and showers are clean. so I recommend....If you like paracas

It doesn't get a very good recommendation but it's a good hostel. First of all the rooms are good and the staff cleans thoroughly. that's very good. But the biggest problem is the space in the rooms. With 8 people and 8 backpacks + other stuff the room is Full!!! no chance to walk...or...! The Wife is catastrophe! router with tiny old antenna in the kitchen. everyone comes to the kitchen but not for food !!! forget wife on the very nice rooftop! not possible. concrete hidden tiny wifi device.

Sunflower hostel in cali. OK. Well, the location is very good. You can reach it with the new bus system easily ..or with the jeeps. The room was simply too dark with a very loud fan. no Window but other rooms have a Window. There are only two showers/toilets so it's not much. The kitchen is good and has everything you need. The staff is excellent and very helpful to find the locations and activities in the city. The area is very quite at night and all shops are close to the hostel.
