Local House Hostel Isla Grande, Rosario Island, Colombia
8.9
18th Apr 2017

Part of the 'Paraiso Secreto' hostel community, Local House shares the common spaces and all the houses are basically identical. Local house had a lovely chilled vibe & was a great place to relax. We did the Plankton tour at night, expect to wait an hour to leave but worth it! There were no lockers in the rooms but not needed as someone is always around. Mosquito nets on all the beds. Bring food from Cartagena to cook in the kitchen. No wifi & electricity only at night on the whole island.

Hostal Casa Escallon, Cartagena, Colombia
9.1
13th Apr 2017

We had a lovely stay at Casa Escallon. In a great location close to the La Torre del Reloj, where the walking tour begins and a nice walk along Calle 35 to Plaza Santo Domingo. The staff didn't speak English but were helpful & pleasant. The rooms are clean and tidy. The roof terrace is a lovely spot to chill once the sun has gone down. Kitchen is lacking in equipment and space but has the basics. Not much of an atmosphere as more of a hotel vibe, perhaps not for the solo traveller.

Florentina Hostal, Medellin, Colombia
8.9
13th Apr 2017

A lovely homely-feel hostel in a nice location in Manila- 10 min walk to Parque Lleras. Small lockers in rooms just for the essentials and no locker storage space- you just leave your bags by the reception desk. Unfortunately they did not have any blankets for us but without the fan it was fine. Nice kitchen to cook in. The hot water was very temperamental so we had mostly cold showers. All in all, a nice spot for a few relaxed nights in Medellín.

El Viajero Hostel Salento, Salento, Colombia
8.6
9th Apr 2017

Best things about the hostel is the location and breakfast views over the mountains, which was also a nice way to meet people. The kitchen was very basic. The shower was temperamental and you were lucky to have hot water. We were unfortunately placed in a dorm below ground level which felt quite gloomy and with the ensuite it made everything feel very damp in the room. Also, no wifi in the rooms & noisy lockers! However, the staff were great and we arranged a few tours with them hassle-free.

Anaira Hostel, Leticia, Colombia
8.9
7th Apr 2017

This hostel is exactly what you would expect when finding accommodation in the middle of the Amazons. Basic! And the kitchen does not have the essential cooking tools. However, the staff were fantastic & very helpful! There's a large table in the main room where we made friends eating and playing cards. Only 10 min drive to the airport and they offer a free pickup service. If possible, ask to stay in the room in the house, slightly nicer than the big dorm room out the back.

Los Patios Hostal Boutique, Medellin, Colombia
10.0
25th Mar 2017

This is the best hostel we've stayed in during our 3 mth trip in South America.. 10/10! Staff were amazing, a beautiful rooftop terrace with hammocks & lots of seating space. They had an empanada night which was a great way to socialise and also a free salsa class on the roof. Great location in Manila, 10 min walk to Parque Lleras. Rooms are quite small but each bed has a curtain, lamp, charger and shelf - luxury for anyone travelling a while. Always very clean with great common spaces!

Hostel Galeria 13, Salvador, Brazil
8.0
25th Feb 2017

There is a great atmosphere at Galeria with lots of other travellers to meet over a beer or at breakfast in the morning, which is conveniently served until 12pm. We can only comment on the accommodation in the Dog House, just around the corner.. the room is big but was very messy and dirty. You need to put on your own sheets and take down when checking out, which is slightly lazy of the hostel. The location in Pelourinho is perfect and the best asset of the hostel.

Wow ,LAZY! So anybody who stays more than one night will see the girls re make all the 30 beds and 7 private rooms . During carnival they do this 3 times as of course in carnival dorm rooms get messy. We do not make the beds before arrival as other guests sit on beds and throw their dirty bags on others beds.Bring down the sheets after use does not seem such a lot to ask.

A social and inviting hostel with great atmosphere. A welcoming kitchen space with tempting biscuits and coffee 24/7 - the perfect place to meet other travellers. The owner is a lovely man who has put thought into the key items a traveller wants: shelves & electricity plugs above your bed, good shared spaces. No breakfast, but a clean kitchen & a grocery store just around the corner. Beach is very close. Staff are mostly volunteers- which unfortunately means they too do not know the city.

Hello, Pirate! It was a pleasure to have you as our guest these past few days! You know the most important thing for us? It is your opinion, it is through it that we have been able to improve the service offered! So ... Grateful for your evaluation! <3 In fact, we love working with volunteers and they come from different parts of Brazil and the world, but all of our hosts who work at the reception during the morning shift are local and know pretty well the region. In addition, we have a billboard at the reception with various information about tours and services, in Portuguese and English. The next time you stay with us, look for a local host or ask a volunteer to locate someone. We will be happy to assist you. Always welcome to Recife and our Hostel! Hugs from Recife! :)

Hostel Jeri Central, Jericoacoara, Brazil
8.3
3rd Feb 2017

Jeri Central is a great spot to chill and meet other travellers, with lots of hammocks in the communal area and a pool. The travellers were mostly Israeli groups, who were lovely, but if you're traveling on your own it might be harder to mingle. Dislikes: The bathroom floor was constantly wet. Breakfast is not worth getting up for. You need to pay 20BRL to store your bags after check out, which is almost unheard of in a hostel. This all being said, we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend.

Refúgio Hostel Fortaleza, Fortaleza, Brazil
8.3
27th Jan 2017

We stayed in Refugio for 4 nights. While there's not much to love about the city of Fortaleza, the hostel offers tours to beautiful beach locations south of the city, a must-do if you're in Fortaleza for a few nights. The staff were lovely and very helpful, especially Caienna! The room does not have AC, but there was a ceiling fan and the beds have mosquito nets. Location is in a slightly sketchy street but during the day it's fine. Would recommend!

B My Bed Budapest, Budapest, Hungary
6.0
26th May 2016

With only a small A4 sign out front, no one answering the buzzer, and no signage for which floor it is, first impressions were a good indication of the rest of the hostel. The staff were unhelpful, the beds are old and majority of them look like they are yet to be cleaned (one girl from my room requested new sheets). There were hairs all over the floor, which was not swept once in the 4 days I was there. There's not much of a traveler vibe either. Only positive is the location!

This is an average hostel - nothing more, nothing less. The rooms are very basic and the bathrooms needed a clean majority of the time. The kitchen is nice and spacious though. The wifi is ridiculous and you have to continually sign into your facebook account to 'like' their page each time you want to access the internet. The cleaning lady was extremely rude... yelling at me in Spanish and generally a terrible attitude the whole time. Location is decent, 5/10mins walk to the centre of old town.

Cloud 9 is in a great spot, super close to the beach and a 10min walk from the bus depot. There's a rooftop and kitchen/chill out area to meet fellow travellers and the bathrooms are big and private!

Lisbon Lounge Hostel, Lisbon, Portugal
9.7
9th May 2016

Lisbon Lounge is by far the best hostel I've stayed in. Super clean, spacious, and great location. They've thought of everything... big lockers with chargers inside, reading lights, bed shelves etc. The kitchen is amazing with pancakes made fresh each morning, friendly staff and you can book tours through them. The only downside was it was a little quiet in the hostel, as I was there prior to peak season. Otherwise try Living Lounge, as they're sister hostels. Definitely recommend!
