The hostel was really hit and miss: Staff - some were very friendly and some were quite impolite and would often refuse to look at you Cleanliness - the common areas were clean but I am quite sure our ensuite in dorm room 2 was not cleaned for several nights as the same clump of hair was on the floor for my stay's duration. Also my bed sheets stunk. Atmosphere - the layout and furniture of the place was nice but the place didn't have any heart and soul and the atmosphere was very sterile.
Hi Brodie Thank you for your feedback on your stay with us. In York we are a friendly bunch and we should not have a problem being polite and pleasant 100% of the time. I have shared your comments with the team. Regarding the bedroom, the bathrooms are cleaned on a daily basis and fresh linen is on the bed for all arrivals. As always I will follow up on your comments. Best wishes for the rest of your travels in the UK. Andrew

The only real draw back was the place was too big for its own good. The rooms were really isolated from the staff and so people played music, roared and drank on the fourth floor until past midnight. Also, despite the number of common rooms there wasn't really a great one to drink and meet people in, nor a quiet one to chill out and read in. That said its a great hostel and the free breakfast was the best I have had. I would certainly stay here again.

Great cosy hostel if you are looking for comfortable facilities and some nice couches to plonk down on. If you want to party, go to Blue Sky.

I was only here for a night but I didn't think it was as bad as some of the reviews make it out to be. I guess for fifteen pounds you might expect a bit more as a hostel like this only costs about ten per night in Edinburgh. The jacuzzi was a nice touch though.

Great cosy hostel with a warm fireplace, comfortable beds (two pillows!) and very friendly staff. The only problem I had was with the showers where there was no hot water in the evening after a long day's hike. Other than that it was top notch.

Great price but a really basic hostel. The only really terrible thing was the dorm room which was so stuffy and smelly that I could only sleep a couple of hours at a time. In my opinion it is really worth paying a few more pounds for a more comfortable, atmospheric and better located hostel - Edinburgh has plenty to offer!

Great for the price. But unfortunately there were less lockers than beds in the dorm I stayed in. Also the chill out areas can be a bit cramped. Other than that pretty top notch.
Cheers for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your stay. We're looking to get the locker situation fixed as soon as possible, our apologies that there were not enough lockers in your room during your stay with us. Despite this we're pleased to hear you had an enjoyable stay with us and hopefully we'll see you again in the future. Much love, the Edinburgh Team.

Well located hostel with really friendly staff and good kitchen facilities. Downside was the 6 bed dorm I stayed in was really cramped and the shower was not very hot or powerful.

A fantastic hostel where the staff seem to genuinely care about the people staying there. Couldn't fault the place and will definitely be coming back

Pros: - good location - free breakfast -decent common rooms - fully equipped kitchen Cons: The showers were absolutely horrendous. They oscillated from scalding hot to freezing cold regardless of what time/day you took one, and if you get a consistent luke warm stream you should consider yourself lucky. Judging by other reviews it seems to be an ongoing problem so I was surprised it hasn't been fixed yet. Also every single board game downstairs has essential pieces missing and is unplayable.

Pros: Friendly staff Equipped kitchen Good showers Cons: Poor location as far as a 'Central' backpackers should go Other Tenants often left our room door unlocked all day so would be nice if it locked automatically The bar was quite poor for a licensed premises

Average facilities, disinterested staff (I waited about 20 minutes at reception to check in) but fantastic location if you have come to Amsterdam to party. However the flip side of that is even ear plugs won't allow you to get to sleep before 2-3am as your window overlooks a very busy night life walking street

Great facilities and dorms with wooden beds, individual curtains, nooks and reading lights. Well located near Gare du nord as well. Being a big hostel it is hit and miss with meeting people so keep that in mind as a solo traveller. The bar was busy but wasn't really my scene It was a bit pricey, but then again it is Paris. Day lockers were very expensive

Goodish location 2 minutes from the train and A 15 minute walk to the beach. Facilities were a bit outdated but you could bring alcohol and food for the kitchen and outdoor area. Hostel was Very quiet when I stayed in late September

Excellent facilities for price, very clean, comfortable beds with individual lights, nooks and power source Shower was good but the bathroom tends to flood if your are in the for more than three minutes Not having wifi in the rooms sucked because the ground floor was like a hotel - sterile, insipid and invariably devoid of atmosphere Mostly French people staying there, heard almost no English. Best way to meet people was on the walking tour at 12:30 from the cathedrale
