We stayed here just before New year, we'd been to the pub downstairs before which does brilliant food and cheap beer. The rest of the building is not so nice! We stayed in room 11, which was very musty smelling. There were very large cracks in the wall and chunks of plaster missing. The bed was very old and the sheets were stained and old also. The entire room was very run down and depressing. Otherwise the bathrooms were pretty clean and much nicer than the room and the staff were friendly too.

We stayed in a double room, which was brilliant. Cosy bed, tv and porch outside, plus the kitchen was always clean. One of the nicest hostel rooms we've stayed in. Staff are VERY laid back compared to other hostels we've stayed in, the no smoking signs around reception are ignored and we noticed a couple of them smoke weed, even just before manning the reception desk. It is close to the beach though, there was a definite stoner vibe here but it's worth a stay just because the rooms are so great!

We stayed in a double, the room was big with a huge bed and air con, as well as a little balcony overlooking the pool which we loved! The bathroom was big and only really shared with one other double room. It's about 5minutes from the beach and there's a little supermarket round the corner, with a few cafes nearby. They seem to run a lot of overnight tours and we were put off a little by people jumping up and down in the pool chugging goon but the room was in a good spot and was quiet at night.

Stayed in a double, which was very clean and cute with telly and comfy bed. The air con is optional extra which we didn't realise before we went (extra $5 a day) although they do provide a fan. Only a short walk from the beach and about 15minute walk to the nearest Woolworths, there was also a really helpful lady on the desk who booked our Fraser Island tour. We found there was often queues for the bathrooms, there didn't seem enough for the number of guests there.

Stayed here for four nights in a double room, which was spacious with a good ensuite and fairly clean. Only a 10/15min walk to the shops and supermarket and 5mins to the beach. On the other hand the kitchen was open sided and so quite dirty but you get what you pay for. The staff were a mixed bag, some didn't seemed interested in helping whereas two of the boys were really friendly and welcoming and more than made up for the other's lack of enthusiasm with their helpfulness and approachability.

We stayed here on our way south and loves the little cabin we stayed in. Very clean and neat, probably one of the best rooms we've had in Australia. The staff are really friendly, with one awesome lady even dropping a number of us off at the late night bus even when reception was closed. Beware though, there isn't much around the hostel itself, there is a nearby shopping centre and supermarket but is a little way out of town.

We stayed here in a private room for two nights before our trip to magnetic island and liked it so much we came back for another night afterwards! The rooms are quirky and comfortable with great ceiling fan and even a little mini fridge in the room. The wifi is very fast and the best we have had in a hostel so far. The staff are all brilliant, everyone is friendly and happy to help, there are even free shuttles to the ferry/bus. This is definitely one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed at.

This hostel had stunning surroundings, really good views over rainforest and all the way to the coast, however it is set slightly out of town, a 15 min walk to Bingil Bay or short shuttle to Mission Beach. The hostel runs free shuttles regularly throughout the day. Relaxing atmosphere, with activities everyday, when we were there it was a bonfire event and movies on everyday on the big screen. The staff are really friendly and chatty. The rooms are comfy but take bug repellant for the mosquitos

Stayed here in a private room and is the only hostel I've ever come across that has charged for air con. There is a sign saying it keeps costs down but it's pretty hot, and haven't had this in any other hostel, they give you 3 hours free everyday but only if you're in when they come round. The kitchen is nice and clean but there is a deposit to pay for pots/pans and a fridge box. Located about a 10min walk from the lagoon and shopping centre. The best thing about this hostel is the free wifi!

We spent 6 nights here in a private room and were pleasantly surprised by how spacious and well equipped it was. Really comfy bed, little patio area and fridge, perfect! Only five minutes walk to the beach and about ten/fifteen to the middle of town. The staff are all really friendly and helped us a lot with booking tours and transfers. We only wish we could have stayed here longer!

Spent 3 nights here in a private room, staff were very friendly and the whole hostel was cleaned everyday which was excellent. It did seem a party hostel so bear this in mind when booking, there is lots of noise but the location is good, pretty much in Kings Cross station and a short walk to the opera house/Darling harbour.

Had a great stay here in a twin private room, great location: only 10mins away from town centre and the restart mall and just opposite the gardens. The staff were super friendly from check in to check out, and the rooms were spacious with comfy beds, I especially liked the electric blanket! Nice touch guys!

We spent 3 nights here in a private twin room and had a great stay. The room was spacious and clean, with very comfy beds! The staff were very helpful and friendly. the whole hostel had a really good atmosphere. There was a tv lounge area which is a good place to meet other travellers, the only snag is you have to walk through the lounge to get to the bathrooms which can be a little awkward when everyone is sat watching tv. Also big up to Gizmo, the friendly cat!!

Stayed in a private room which was good value for 6 nights, it was in a building to the side of main reception. The building seemed untidy particularly the showers, even just after cleaning had hairs and grit in the bottom. We had a communal balcony adjoining our room, the view was great but smoke drifted through our windows from people outside which was annoying as the weather was quite warm. All of the staff were super friendly though from check in to check out! The best thing about the hostel

Hostel was in a great location, and the guy at reception was brilliant! He gave us loads of info when we first checked in and was super helpful for our entire stay, with recommendations for places to eat and how to see the glacier. The room was lovely and spacious, although the plastic garden chair was a bit strange. Looked like they were doing some decorating and cleaning in the main building's lounge area whilst we were there. Overall had a great stay, made better by the wonderful staff!
