Drop Bear Hostel

Santa Marta, Colombia

This place is cool (not literally, the weather in Santa Marta is hot!). As an ex-cartel house, it's ridiculously spacious, has a great pool and even a bar to create an evening vibe. The aussie owner also runs tours of the building that are really interesting. Location wise, it's 5 minutes walk from the main road, where there's a large supermarket. from there you can catch a bus one direction into town (or walk) or a bus in the opposite direction to Tayrona.

Alpes Huaraz

Huaraz, Peru

a really nice hostel. one of the staff was really helpful in helping us plan our trek. if i remember correctly, i don't think this place had a kitchen. however, lots of eating places in town, only a few mins walk.

Hostal Sol Andino

La Paz, Bolivia

a decent enough option for a basic room. this place doesn't set the world on fire, but perfectly adequate for a low grade hotel.

Sol Atacama Hostel

San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

A small, very basic hostel, situated 5-10 mins walk from the main square, There's only one bathroom for the entire hostel (as others have stated) and the kitchen is ill equipped. However, the owner is really nice and there's a table tennis table (yay!).

Hostal Tuyasto

San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

decent cheap options in san pedro are near on impossible, so this place is a good option. i wish i could score bonus points for the owner and his wife. they were so friendly. we stayed 2 nights here and then moved only because we wanted a private double. the owner was so worried that we were leaving because we didnt like his house and even offered to drive us to our new hostel

7 Duendes Twin Hostel

Salta, Argentina

super value for a double room. spotless, more like a hotel room at hostel prices. only downside is that it's quite a long walk to the bus station and several blocks into the centre.

Plaza de Armas Hostel

Santiago, Chile

location, location, location. you dont get more central than this.

Ciudad Vieja Hostel

Montevideo, Uruguay

Had a great stay - staff were very helpful, hostel is nice and location ideal.

Bossa Nova Hostel

Paraty, Brazil

I've stayed in hundreds of hostels, and i dont believe this hostel deserves the rating it has. Other reviews imply that this hostel is new - it's not. Whilst it may have a new owner, the builing has been used as guest accommodation for many years. This hostel is in poor decorative order, dirty and very hot. It's also about 15 minutes walk from the old town. However, the owner, Alan, is a really nice guy.

Sorry about your impression. Oh, yeah, this place is new. We just finished the building 2 months ago. You were here at the hottest week of summer and its way all the town was extremely hot. But we provide good vans for each room and at soon we will offer rooms with air condictioner. You are right about our decoration. We are still missing part of it but at soon everything will be done. So far we are offering a great staying for our guests. The majority of them are really enjoying it.

Hotel Altaïr

Great hostel but the guy that runs the place is a bit moody.
