La Natura Hostel, Palomino, Colombia
7.4
16th Jun 2017

Hostel has a nice rustic design and great outdoor areas to enjoy, and some cute animals too. Unfortunately it rained a lot when I was there and there isn't really anywhere sheltered to relax. No breakfast included and the sheets didn't seem that clean. The dorm area isn't enclosed so open to cockerels crowing from 3am, and the next door neighbours play really loud music from 10am throughout the nigh so I really struggled to sleep. I wish the staff would address this. Moved hostel after 2 nights.

This is a decent, small, quiet hostel that I chose as I needed to do some work for a few days. Great air con in the rooms, and the beds are private and well equipped. Kitchen is small but has everything and the bathrooms are always clean. Breakfast is good, you cook your own eggs. Social area is small and the staff often take it over, so difficult to relax outside the room. But staff were great and v helpful. Would recommend if you're after somewhere quiet.

I love this hostel and returned twice! I hardly wanted to leave, with the great food and the pool and kitchen facilities meaning I could prepare food myself too. There was usually something going on socially, but it's also big enough to find a quiet place to relax in a hammock or with Netflix - they've thought of everything. The building is so cool and the staff are brilliant, really fun and helpful. The only shame is no free breakfast, but there's a kitchen! Can't recommend enough!

Lovely traditional beachy hostel, beautifully designed, in a great location not too far from the beach. It's quieter than Dreamer etc but that makes it the perfect place to really chill out and relax. Breakfast was great (free bfast is rare in Palomino!), lovely showers, strong wifi, nice peaceful rooms with mozzie nets. Staff were really helpful. Just a bit quiet when I was there, it was low season though. Would stay again!

El Rio Hostel, Santa Marta, Colombia

29th May 2017

The location of el rio is stunning but very secluded! Can only be accessed on foot or motorbike. The hammocks have mozzie nets but there are loads of sandflies etc so got bitten lots. Pretty quiet when I was there. You're not allowed to use the kitchen so kind of bound in to buy meals, but they were hearty and well prepared if not cheap. Breakfast v basic unless you pay for extras. Free yoga a great shout! Other trips available. Good relaxing experience overall!

Black Sheep Hostel Medellin, Medellin, Colombia

Great lively hostel, always something going on - I had a very heavy week in medellín here and made some great friends. No breakfast but a well equipped kitchen and endless free coffee. Roof terrace is lovely, staff v friendly and accommodating. Really recommend it! The shower in the 8 bed dorm was awful, but there are others. A fan would be a good shout too, but other than that great!

Black Pines has been designed really well, its beautiful! The hostel was pretty quiet on a Saturday night which was a bit disappointing on my first night in Medellín, but I guess it's luck of the draw! A bit strange to leave breakfast out cold, and to have to be manually let out of the front gate but I guess it's secure!

Picturesque, peaceful hostel on the edge of town, a bit of a walk to the main square and stuff. Breakfast is great, freshly cooked and with variety. Cute dogs, chickens and beautiful bird life to spot with amazing views from the terrace and nice places to chill. Could do with some of the light bulbs changing, the 6 bed dorm is quite dark!

A lot of thought has been put into the aesthetics of this hostel and it's really beautiful. Great beds and very clean, but I thought this hostel takes liberties with customers. Extra charge for breakfast. Bathroom doors are see through and don't close. We were kept waiting for hours to check in as there were no staff between 6 and 9am! Payment in advance demanded for a second night, no tabs, and they charged me more than on Hostelworld. Charged for every little extra. No atmosphere at all.

Great hostel! Really enjoyed my stay here. It's small enough to still feel intimate but the staff put lots of effort in to creating a fun atmosphere every night. The dorms are a bit stuffy but the privacy screens are great! Showers don't have any changing area and aren't that private. Lots of locals come to the bar at night which doesn't seem that secure, a guy's phone went missing from my dorm which was a bit worrying! But overall would recommend

This is an ok hostel for the price and location. The front door is always unlocked so anyone can walk in, and no keys are given for dorms but there are secure lockers. The bedrooms face onto a main road which was extremely noisy and the room was hot and full of petrol fumes. Not too pleasant. The food offerings are great though, staff v friendly, cheap drinks and breakfast was nice.

Fine spot to spend the night before the early start trekking up to machu picchu. The downstairs bedrooms are very noisy from the street as the front door is left open. Not very secure as the windows can be easily slid open from outside. No lockers in the rooms. Breakfast served at 5am was handy. Gets the job done but not amazing.

This is a great hostel! I stayed here much longer than I intended to. Comfy beds, big lockers, AMAZING showers, super clean and a varied breakfast. The bar and restaurant are quite cheap but the kitchen provided is TINY for the size of the hostel. Not a place to cook. It's beautifully set out and fun to just hang out in. Only complaint is the staff didn't seem too concerned when I had some cash stolen from my purse in the dorm. Lock it away!

The open plan setup of this hostel is great when it's warm, but for cusco's chilly climate it's frustrating to not really have anywhere properly enclosed to chill out, especially as the wifi doesn't work in the rooms. Lacking in atmosphere, very quiet, and the kitchen is one of the worst I've seen! So small and underequipped. Also ran out of bottled water. Breakfast is a plus! Ok for the price but wouldn't stay again.

Thank you for your review, we have a enclose area at the terrace with good WiFi and our garden is a good place to take sun during the day, atmosphere basically depends of kind of guest we have at the moment, kitchen is free and available to all our guest so when many people using luke small and underequipped of course, sorry for any inconveniences we try to give the best service at the fair price.

I stayed here for one night and decided not to stay longer - really lacking in atmosphere at the weekend, though I guess that's luck of the draw! The staff let me leave my bag before check in. Breakfast v basic, kitchen far too small and underequipped, bar quite expensive and empty! No booze allowed in, and no lock on the front door so anyone can walk in. Price wise I guess it's ok!

Great hostel for those after a quieter time in arequipa. The staff can organise loads of trips (recommend the 2 day Cusco canyon), and they seem to cater more to travellers who have early starts! We were told to leave to drink after midnight but this was great when I was up early! Good location, basic breakfast, good showers, great outdoor area and a cute dog you can walk! Would definitely recommend.

This is a great hostel! Perfect central location, great facilities like laundry, wifi, info services, kitchen, bar and good free breakfast. Staff are really helpful and the place was always buzzing. It's huge so plenty of space to find some quiet time too. The bar could be a bit more favourably priced as you're not allowed to bring booze in, and the fan in the room didn't stop it from being a bit stuffy.

I really enjoyed my week's stay at Gion Ryokan Q-Beh. The traditional layout is fantastic, and the security box and small table in the room was really welcome. The location is great, right in the old town! This definitely isn't a party hostel, but there are a few good social spaces to use if you are travelling as a group. The kitchen is well-equipped and the staff are so helpful, they helped me with directions, bike hire, bus bookings - the works! Very impressed and would definitely recommend.

Unplan is a trendy and modern new hostel that's been open for about a year. It's spotlessly clean, the showers are blissful and the free breakfast is a great bonus. Location is quiet and residential, but v convenient direct transport links to most places. The staff are great but perhaps could know a bit more about transport links etc - they were more than happy to find out things, but didn't have a lot of answers offhand. The bar is a bit pricey, and security boxes are very small.

This is a great budget hostel for the price. The locker in the shared dorm was broken, but there were others out in the corridor - a bit less secure though. I moved into a private room on my second night, this was very quiet and did the job. For me, the hostel was just a base to leave my things and I spent most of my time exploring Berlin. The downstairs seating/bar area always had people in it. Thanks!
