Typical NZ hostel - very impersonal, charge you for everything, and make you check out at 10am. Quite a walk up hill to get to. Overall it was fine I guess. Spacious and comfortable rooms.

Nice place overall and close to a metro. Staff were helpful and friendly. Nice cafe attached but the street had lots of places to eat.

Grand Luxe Hostel

Seville, Spain

Good hostel, with very comfortable beds (though top bunks are very high, with no rail). Location is second to none for a short stay in Seville. Wasn't in the hostel much to sample the atmosphere. Nice shower, though one between 8 people can get a bit of a queue going in the morning. Nice place overall.

Central City Backpackers

Hobart, Australia

Security non-existent; reception closed at 8pm, so always (non-paying) people sleeping on the couches, and anyone with the back door code could come in. Added to that, you are dependant on others in the dorm locking your bedroom door, which doesn't always happen. Staff were nice, but off their feet as it was so busy. The place hasn't hired enough (& 24 hr) receptionists. That said, location & kitchen facilities are decent, and the beds were comfortable enough. Charge $2 for bed linen tho!

Owner Comment (Hide)
Thank you very much for taking the time to comment. Reception certanly does close at 8pm, however we have 3 live-on staff of which 2 at least are on premises 24 hours and available on the emergency number 24 hours. During Jan 1st - Jan 5th we had 2 people 'booked' onto the couches each night or they would be sleeping outside. We took thier ID and made sure they were registered. We thank everyone for patience during this difficult time in Hobart where we try to look after everyone. Security in dorms rooms is dependant on the guests which is the same as most hostels I have stayed in. We cannot put auto closers and auto locks on the dormitory doors due to Tas Fire regulations that govern us here. Staffing during Jan 1st - Jan 10th is as much as the reception space can handle. We ARE run off our feet, but I dont think you would have had to wait long at all. Our biggest problem is actually the linen company that delivers our clean linen and was late by 2 hours for almost a week. We thank you for your patience in that, and can only assure you that the busiest few days is all over and sorted. Thank you very much for your compliments on staff and our facilities. We do try very hard with what we have. Again, thank for taking time to comment. We really do appreciate it.

Ah, it was fine. But v small bedrooms, showers all over the place, and My GOD, did you have to climb a lot of stairs to your bedroom. Bit weirded out by one of the staff too.

Backpackers Sunset

Lovely place - had some great parties and the beds were really comfortable. Florianopolis is a great place. Have to get the bus to places but no hassle there. You'll get pretty fit going up and down from your room though!

Just stayed for one quick night, but hostel staff were nice, with a caipirinha waiting for you. Good atmosphere too with a nice lounge area. Bedroom was a bit cramped to be honest, and showers were warm but not great. Did what it said on the tin basically.

Che Lagarto hostel Ilha Grande

Ilha Grande, Brazil

Didn't like this place. Some staff were nice, but some were useless and unhelpful. The electricity went both nights, which wasnt their fault but didnt help. Cockroaches in our room. Beds were reasonably comfortable. Ilha Grande itself isn't much fun, but seemed to be good for couples.

Nice place, had great fun for 5 nights. Staff were always friendly and great location as long as you don't want to be beside the beach. Could have been a bit more comfortable and the sheets didnt fit the bed.

Newton Park-Homestay

Lovely place, but a fair whack outside the town or near anything. Excellent service, and very clean - basically just a local\'s house who had moved out.

Old Gaol Backpackers

Grahamstown, South Africa

The character and novelty of the gaol atmosphere kinda lost out to the slightly run down effect of the place and the cold rooms (holes instead of windows, but these were willingly and effectively boxed over when asked). Having said that, great loaction in the town. The bar looked fun in a grungey type of way, but I didn\'t drink in there. Grahamstown is a nice place too.

Mufasa Backpackers

Wow this place was packed!! More people than I\'ve seen crammed in to a hostel before - dorms, tents, evrywhere! It was World Cup time and I was happy to get a place, although it meant the rooms were choca block, and had no hot water. Prob have been good fun if you were in one of the large tour buses that night.

The Deck on Manning

More guesthouse than hostel, you\'re posh backpacking here, but it\'s listing on hostelworld ensures a young enough crowd. A driver was on hand to take us where we wanted for a small fee which was a really excellent as walking anywhere wasn\'t really an option distance wise.

Great place, nice staff, but it's cold at night in Joburg! Wasn't staying here for too long a period, but we were happy with everything

Nice place with a good vibe and a nice restaurant. Bar was good too, but they could spruce up the overall accomodation and bathroom facilities. Vic Falls sure is an expensive place. Bring lottsa dolla!

Morning Star Resort

Wow, this place was loud. And I mean LOUD. Two nights there, neither half, black or full moon nights. The first night we noted the REALLY loud music but we went out anyway so didnt care. The second night, we tried to go to bed around 8, eventually leaving at 10.30 cos the music was so loud (think rave just outside your bungalow/room). When we were leaving, we asked at the bar when the music would stop - \"don\'t know\" was the response. Nice place, but very loud.

Nice place, with really helpful staff - never actually met Penzy, but her husband Dave was always happy to give advice on stuff. Lovely clean, double room too.

Golden Hill Bungalows

Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

Yikes! Had to ask for new sheets for the bed first of all. The guy checking us in seemed like he'd never checked any one in before. Trying to get anyone at reception at other times was a hassle too - even though it seemed like loads of locals were hanging around at reception. Not a nice place - but this was up the top of hostelworld's ratings, so cant think there's much nice in Phi Phi. Air con worked well in fairness (we paid extra for it).

Som Guesthouse

Regular enough place. Staff just about helpful. Double room standard enough. Not a bad price in fairness.

Lub d Bangkok Silom

Yep, really nice place - like a hotel (we stayed in a double room). Staff really friendly when you talked to them and the place was really clean etc. Away from the Ko San Road, but we got a taxi there and back no probs (the road\'s good, not amazing!). Only downside, some construction work went on on a Saturday morning which want great, but that shouldnt affect you!

Casa de Ania

Havana, Cuba

What to make of this place...More people than other places in Cuba which is good craic, but not exactly kosher over there. Place is clean and the owners are nice - trying to make a few extra quid, but who isn\'t in Cuba? Had a security incident but it was more due to someone\'s drunkeness than anything else I think. Be careful people don\'t follow you home from the Malecon.

Really nice place - TV in every room, no bunks and they even make your bed in the morning.
