Parami Guesthouse

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Nice hostel. They've got spacious bedroom with private bathroom and hot water. If you need anything, you'll have to ask and you'll get it. Breakfast is not included.

Hanoi Blue Sky Hotel

Hanoi, Vietnam

We got a great room here. Excellent staff, excellent location, breakfast included. Great value for money. Totally recommend it!

Elysian Sapa Hotel

Sapa, Vietnam

Excellent bed, clean room, nice bathroom. Humidity is everywhere in Sapa. So, it includes the rooms. Nothing they can really do against it. Nice staff but they can be a bit pushy when it comes about selling. Rent a motorbike and you will see so much more than what tours offer.

Hanoi Blue Lotus Hotel

Hanoi, Vietnam

This is a nice hotel but objectively (and I apologize to the owner for writing this) Hanoi Blue Sky Hotel is in many aspects (which includes for e.g. a price per night that is $10 cheaper, no funky smell in the room and no pressure to buy tours) a much better place to stay.

Jade Hotel

Hue, Vietnam

Rooms are above the standard you usually get for this range of price. The service is better than in a 5 stars hotel. Excellent value for money.

Dai Long Hotel

Hoi An, Vietnam

Good budget hotel to stay in Hoi An. The bus drop you close by and it's 5 min away from where they put tourists with their cameras. The rooms are clean and bathroom has hot water. The owner is nice and honest. Be aware that there is currently workers next door who can start at a silly 6.30 am.

Truong Giang Hotel Nha Trang

Nha Trang, Vietnam

Rooms can be smelly but overall, it's a good value for money. Good staff, good location, clean rooms and secure place. Don't book anything or rely on their recommendations though (it's a business. So, their first interest is to make profit). There is a good restaurant next door.

Hai Long Vuong

Da Lat, Vietnam

Excellent hotel located in a quiet street a bit of the centre but Dalat is a small town. So, it's no problem. Great owners. They can arrange bus tickets for you with no extra cost. Their recommendations for restaurant is not that great.

Hotel Nguyet Van

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Good location. Close from the other backpacker hostels but distant enough to avoid the "only for tourists" restaurants and the untiring sellers. Quiet place with nice rooms. Unfortunately, smoking in the rooms is permitted. Helpful staff.

Me Mates Place

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Clean, well located, the rooms have AC, a fan, a fridge, wifi and tv, the bathrooms have hot water, and for the lucky ones the balconies have monkeys. You will have to ask for towels. Lots of cheap food options and travel agencies nearby the hostel. The hostel can provide free pick up depending on where you arrive in Phnom Penh. You’ll have to contact them for this.

Velkommen Guesthouse Siem Reap

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Excellent value for money. Double bedrooms with comfy bed and equipped with AC, fan, fridge, tv, wardrobe, fast wifi, safe. Quite clean. They change your towel every day. Helpful and friendly staff. It’s conveniently located in between Angkor Wat and the city centre. You can rent bikes for $2/day. The only minus is the club next door which blasts its music every night.

The Bananas

Krabi, Thailand

Totally recommend it (unless nature and insect are not part of your vocabulary). Reaching the place by bus is a challenge. If the bus driver ask for 600 Baht, you're not on the right track. It leaves close to the bus station and costs 100B. Go kayaking in the mangrove, it's cool to do. Food in the evening is great. Morning and afternoon: so-so. Great place for landscape photography and for wildlife lovers. Ideal for whoever wants to improve his/her German.

2W Cafe & Bed

Phuket, Thailand

Good place where to stay in Phuket town for those who travel on a budget. The standard double bedroom was the size of a cell (and hooks on the door wouldn't be a bad thing). So, it's no recommended for claustrophobic people. The hostel is clean and safe close to shops and restaurants. Tip about Phuket: don't take a ride on a motorbike. They will rip you off.

Agosto Inn

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Good location (like the 10 other hostels on the street), quiet, with a nice staff (particularly Joyce), this hostel is a good value for staying in KL. However, for the picky person who like large shower, you've got to know that, here, they present a brand new concept: the toiwer. A toilet right under the shower. There, forever alone will always be accompanied when having his shower. The space is limited though. It's the only con, the rest is great. Breakfast is included.

B&B Al Saor

Venice, Italy

Very nice hostel, well located. The "landlords" gave us lots of good information such as good places where to eat. We highly recommend it.

The team is absolutely great! They have a free internet access. So, you can organise our next steps from there. For my stay in China, it was one of the best hostel/hotel I went to. Few tips to avoid to be disappointed: The rooms in the basement smell damp. So, if you think you'll be bovered by it, you should ask for a room on the floors. The food and the drinks that they sell are more expensive than in the shops and restaurants around the hotel. Enjoy our stay in Xi'an!
