The atmosphere here is at the top! The resto-bar-lobby has a great vibe, as the rooms' corridor, with a rather unique deco. The showers are gym like, common, but still clean. The staff was super helpful, up all night, and ready to help. I should not advertise that, but one lady even woke me up in my dorm bed to tell me I was late for my morning bus (to take that for granted!). :-) One night though, a loud karaoke party in the hostel went on all night, until 4 or 5, even after many complaints.

Sentrum Hostel, Oslo, Norway

I'll be honest. This is the redlight district of Oslo, and yeah, the ladies climb the stairs of the hostel at night with their high heels, customers in hand, scouting the empty shower stalls to do their job. Of course, these sights affected the 'cleanliness' rating. The toilets were also a mess (stayed unclean for two days). Appart from that, the location is top, and the price is of course horrible, but reasonable in Oslo standards. Staff is helpful, but hard to reach if you come at night.

I can easily imagine this being paradise for many backpackers. They have many common rooms, but the highlight is a bar with pool tables, a smoking room and good music. The reception is by the bar, and the staff there is super friendly. Rooms are nice, clean and safe, even though my locker was broken. The area of the hostel is truly shabby, with drunken men everywhere. Fun. If you have a car, the staff is clueless as where to park it. I got a parking ticket the next day following their advices.

Thanks for your comments, we're glad you enjoyed our hostel! Apologies about the broken locker, if you had let us know during your stay then we would have fixed that for you right away. Local knowledge of staff is very important to us, so I'm sorry you were given this wrong information at reception. All staff have now been updated to avoid this happening in the future.

It is right by the bus station, but still in an inconvenient location. Other than this, it is a great value for your money, very cheap, clean, and safe. The staff (at least one young lady in her twenties) was very kind and helpful to arrange trips to the Curonian Spit. Ask for bicycle rentals. They also recommended Faksas, a resto-pub by the river downtown. Top! The small hostel has two living rooms and a small kitchen. Dorms have very few electric sockets for cell phone charging near your bed.

This hostel is a must ! It is a bit up high (4th floor by foot), but once you made it up, the staff is super helpful on all sorts of matters, it is very well maintained, and the feeling is that of a homey old apartment. The door codes and lockers make it very safe. The beds are standard and clean (I had a 6 beds dorm), and the view on that art-deco building is stunning (room 3). Good hot showers too. Oh, and, A+ for the included breakfasts.

Sp@Itaewon Guesthouse, Seoul, South Korea

I have the feeling that the proper Sp@Itaewon is a very good place to stay. But, after I climbed all the cliffs and stairs to the reception (it is uphill from the station!), they told me they would send me to a sub-location for their hostel "5 minutes walk from here". With luggages it was 15 minutes, in a rather less interesting location, with a hand-written sign to say the hotel was on the 3rd floor of a shabby apartment building. This was frustrating as hell. Still friendly staff over there.
