Roaches Bunkhouse Accommodation

cold..bring a good sleeping bag, miserly 50p for a shower, good kitchen, convenient to a pub and the Roaches, it's 10 pounds a night if you book directly, but we paid 16% more booking through hostelworld, which felt wrong.

a soulless apartment block of a hostel, waited at a heavily bolted front door for 20 minutes on arrival, modern and clean. Tolerable for a night if the far better options in town are full.

nice quiet place, pleasant staff, beautiful view from bedroom and terrace, quite a walk to the nearest pub, substantial well-priced breakfast, spacious bedroom, a shame to charge for Internet and prohibit own alcohol.

cramped bedrooms (particularly the 6 bed dorms) and really it is one big dormitory (with thin divides) rather than separate rooms. Dance round eachother in the tiny kitchen. Showers are warm rather than hot. Free breakfast is very low quality stuff. Churlish to charge an extra $3 at weekends. Very welcoming, friendly, helpful staff and lots of them. 2 very fast big screen macs for all to use without charge. Nice stay at expensive, mediocre city hostel, made good by the attitude of the staff.

Could be a really great hostel. Only issue was on arrival the owner seemed to have his mates round to play football on the xbox in the lounge which completely killed the vibe of the place. Staff were fantastic and dorm lovely.
