Students Residence

Ljubljana, Slovenia

Good experience on my first visit but very bad on my second. As each room is only 2 beds with a lockable door I assumed I would share with same gender. I went to sleep at 1am with no one in the other bed and was rudely awoken at 2am to find a strange man standing over me - it was a huge shock as in my sleepy state I thought he was there to attack me. A horrible shock!! HE then put on the light and tried talking to me. I didn't sleep again till after 5am and had to be up 2 hours later.

Hotel Dorothy

La Fortuna, Costa Rica

Nice clean quiet place for a good price. My only criticism is that the directions on here are TERRIBLE (and incorrect) and when I told the guy on reception about the trouble I had, he laughed!! For the record, the pin in the map marks the church not the hotel and directions should be "From the bus terminal turn right then first left onto Via 702, walking immediately over the river. Take the first left on ave 323 hotel is about 50m on right". Maybe the hotel could update their directions!

El Genoves Hostal

Cartagena, Colombia

I got eaten alive by bed bugs in the dorm. In fairness they had had a company certify they were eradicated but that is no consolation when you spend the next week horrifically itchy. Eventually they agreed to refund my money and paid to have my clothes washed but it was a real battle and the woman on duty was so rude to me!!! Finally the owner came to sort it out. They didn't tell the others in dorm and sent bugs scurrying all over the place by moving the mattress ...with everyones stuff in ther

Hostal CasArte Takubamba

Sucre, Bolivia

Lovely sunny bright place with a nice garden/eating area and the most gorgeous little doggy. rooms spacious and very clean, great hot water showers. Felt sorry for the lovely ladies who serve the breakfast though as it is such a silly system where they have to individually cook your eggs and provide individual servings of juice and fruit. When there are a lot of people all at once it takes AGES.

Hotel Las Nubes

Salta, Argentina

Nice place, clean and reasonably placed for access to centre and bus. Only complaint was the woman managing the place became quite rude to us because we asked to have breakfast the day we arrived (and only what they had left over from other guests) as we wouldn't be there for breakfast the following two mornings. She grudgingly agreed but from then on was quite disrespectful in her dealings with us. Also note - there is NO PICK UP from the bus station as advertised - they should remove this.

It all depends on what you are looking for. This is NOT a party place - it is a quiet, chilling out, hanging out with the animals place and perfect for anyone going diving - the dive shop is 30 seconds from the door and you are guaranteed to get a good night's sleep before the 5.15am start for the blue hole! There were not many other guests when I stayed so if you want to meet other travellers there may be better options elsewhere. But if you love dogs and cats and nice sunsets.. could be 4U.

Grand Hostal Playa

Playa del Carmen, Mexico

A really nice quiet clean hostal with great facilities and friendly people...perfect for those of us who like to go out to do our partying and then come home to SLEEP :)

Hostel Ka'beh Cancun

Cancun, Mexico

This is a bit of a party hostel so if you are after a good night's sleep you may want to consider elsewhere. The dorms are also fairly small and 2 bathrooms can sometimes be difficult with the number of guests. Having said all that, the staff are super friendly and helpful and really want everyone to have a good time and there is a really nice atmosphere about the place. One recommendation is to put some hooks/shelves in the bathroom ....a common problem in hostels!!

Tower Bridge Backpackers

Puerto Escondido, Mexico

This place was not my cup of tea but for others it will be perfect. During the day it is a nice place to relax but at night the music is cranked up to 11 and sleep becomes impossible- it was insanely loud. A bit of moderation would have been appreciated me as well as the neighbours I guess..they are selling! In summary (with apologies to prince) "If you didn't come to party, don't bother knocking on that door!"

Wang Gu Cheng Inn

Lijiang, China

There needs to be more info on website on how to find the place. We ended up staying a night in the wrong place as there are several places called "Wang Gu ...." and one is in the Lonely planet and we got taken there instead. I tried to call them but they don't speak English (which is fine but it just means the directions have to be better on the website).
