Jade Hotel

Hue, Vietnam

I rarely give any place a 5 stars... but Jade hotel definitely deserves the highest marks! Such an overly-friendly staff, very clean & quiet rooms, very cold A/C, comfy beds with 2 pillows per person and a duvet cover, mini-fridge in room, free filtered water, free breakfast you order from a menu with as many items you'd and all food comes out FAST! Bathroom shower has a curtain which is nice because the toilet doesn't really get wet (unlike most other places in Vietnam.) Location is great!

365 Inn

Beijing, China

Clean rooms & bathrooms, nice water-fall showerhead, good A/C, good location, staff helpful & speaks english, common room good for socializing, food good but overpriced. Shared kitchen was SUCH a hassle: The cleaning people were ALWAYS in there cooking or would get upset if we were cooking. HELPFUL TIP: Main differences betw “standard” & “superior” twin private rooms: standard: smaller, no desk chair, not much sunlight & showerhead in bathroom is closer to toilet (thus always getting it wet)

Great place!! Clean room, decent bathroom (although it had the typical "gross Chinese bathroom smell"), friendly staff, fun free dumpling-making party one night, and an outdoor yummy free BBQ party another night! Staff friendly, common area not really for meeting others, but the restaurant/bar was nice, and had a guitarist every night, which was nice. Some of the fastest wifi in-room we've gotten in China...although it dropped out the last day. Location kind of out of the main area though.

Pretty decent place, I would say "so so", but the location is worth the money (specifically to get into Zhangjiajie park at the Wulingyuan entrance), Staff is OK and food was really great! Common room was nice, good place to be social. Bedroom itself is OK... Decently clean beds, but floors are carpeted and gross, bathroom is typical "Chinese disgusting", toilet seat was cracked and painful to sit on. Food took VERY long to come out. Wifi speed in common room was decent... but NO signal in rooms

We stayed in a twin private for 7 nights. Bright room w lovely view, water boiler pitcher, and typical Chinese bathroom (smelly, but normal for China.) Hamson is the guy who runs this hostel and he is GREAT!! Speaks english, helps with tours, bike rentals, everything!! He also invited us to eat w his family in the common room one night. The kitchen was decent & we cooked dinner a few times. Negatives: wifi is spotty and can be frustrating in the common room, and no wifi in individual rooms.

Pretty nice place... We stayed there 6 nights in private twin/double rooms. Clean, had desks, and decent beds. Common area was great and inviting, nice to socialize or sit on your computer. Staff was really wonderful, most spoke good English (except one rude woman). They even helped my boyfriend surprise me for my birthday. Breakfast omelettes were great, pizzas weren't as much. Overall, would stay here again.

Langri Guesthouse

Guangzhou, China

Stayed for 4 nights in the double private. Bedroom pretty clean, but shared bathrooms WERE DISGUSTING!! There were 2 shared bathrooms/showers, were ALWAYS wet, & were NOT clean! (Even by chinese standards) Kitchen was decent, but no plates or utensils, but there were cockroaches! Girl that runs the place is nice but seems young and inexprienced... She had parties with her own friends 2 nights in a row and took over the kitchen and living room and used up all the toilet paper... UNPROFESSIONAL!

Taaroa Lodge

Tahiti, French Polynesia

Not sure why this place got GREAT reviews, maybe those people were in a private bungalow? We stayed in the 6 person room. This was "glorified camping": windows were wide open which meant ants, bees, mosquitos, moths & lizards all over the room, & was a worm in the shower. Nice to be by a beach, but too far frm Papeete. Upside: free use of kayaks & snorkeling gear. We were UPSET bc Ralph picked us up but didn't tell us UNTIL THE DAY WE WERE LEAVING we had to pay $30! Would NOT stay here again.

Hôtel Alton

Bordeaux, France

Was impressed by Hotel Alton &would stay there again. The hotel is very close to the tram, 10min ride into the city center. Us 3 girls on a Bordeaux wine tasting weekend & were happy to have a nice, clean room, 3single beds, couch, TV and a large bathroom. Staff was overly friendly and helped us w/Everything & spoke English. Only downside is breakfast not included-12 extra- and you hear the tram go by at night. Dogs are allowed, parking:7,50/day, WIFI: 3,00/hour or 4,50/2hrs.
