Casa in Laguna, Venice, Italy

An excellent guest house, just 10 minutes from both Piazza St Marco and Rialto if you plan your route carefully. Marco is a fine host, and the rooms are large and cool, with the welcome addition of air con. Go for a room with a balcony; great canal/ lagoon views as you eat your breakfast, or enjoy a drink in the evening. Take Alilaguna Blue from the airport to Ospedale (request stop) for quick and easy access.

Our second stay and even better than the first! this is a hostel by name but a quality hotel in character with large clean rooms; ours had a balcony and a view! We don't bother with the breakfasts though, and remember to take a travel kettle.

Booking on line at the advertised price will get you one of the smaller, older rooms; we were offered an "upgrade" with a price hike of about 25% but declined the offer. Having said that, our room was perfectly adequate for a short stay. Teresa the manageress speaks practically no English, but was very kind and as helpful as she could be in the circumstances. The hostel's location is brilliant and only 1 minute from Opera metro. We recommend this hostel!

Good modern hotel pretty close to centre of Sorrento, with large comfortable rooms and spacious, well equipped bathrooms. Noise intrusion is a problem as all floors are marble tiled and the building is largely open plan. We would not recommend the breakfasts; an additional 5 euros each and very poor quality. Otherwise, however, this hotel represents excellent value for money.

Roissybus 8.60 euros from CDG airport terminates at Opera, 2 mins from hotel. Location is outstanding, staff pleasant and very helpful. Rooms small and rather dark, but clean with good bathrooms. Would certainly recommend.

Highly recommended. Rooms are comfortable, clean and well equipped. Duvets would be preferable to sheets and blankets, though. The owner and his wife were friendly and helpful, even to the extent of ringing the Capri jetfoil company for us, to check they were operating, before we set out for the day
