HI Washington DC

Washington DC, USA

Although the location and staff at this hostel are great, my stay here was dreadful. Might have just been the time of year but the hostel was packed full of high school kids - think noisy teenagers and extremely messy bathrooms. The dorm rooms are tiny and the beds are horridly uncomfortable. My room smelt of urine and had suspicious stains on the floor. There were barely any activities organised (a few more nighttime pub crawls and daily tours would have been a great addition).

HI NYC Hostel

I had a great stay here. This hostel is very well thought out for backpackers - large dorms rooms so you are not cramped; large comfy beds; big lockers in convenient locations in the rooms; personal light for each bed; personal power plug for each bed. I also loved all of the activities organised by the hostel. There are numerous activities on every day either free or for a small fee. As a solo traveler I thought this was fantastic. Made some great friends at this hostel and had a great stay.

Broadway Hotel n Hostel

I thought the place was very well run, staff were great - friendly & helpful. The rooms were clean and the a/c was awesome. Shared bathrooms were plentiful with fabulous facilities. And the location in upper west side is fine, only a short walk to a metro station to get you anywhere in manhattan. Only down side was the difficulty in meeting people, it wasnt very social, and I found it rather lonely, normally i will strike up conversations with randoms, but this place was a bit hard.

Lemon Spirit Hostel

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Beds are comfy, but they have those 3 tiered bunks and the top tier has no railing (dangerous). The bathrooms were clean, and the showers were great. It is a bit far from the action in Ipanema though. Staff were not very friendly. The place has no character, is rather sterile, and not very easy to socialise.

Overnativa Green Hostel

This hostel is setup nicely - Sky TV, big common area with loads of chairs and cushions, and our private room downstairs was very nice > a/c, ensuite, fan, private courtyard wth hammock. The one night out of 3 that Christina (the manager) cooked, it was a great feed. However there was no one ever on reception - never any info on anything. Couldnt pay by credit card, although they originally told us we could. Single LAN computer only, Very Slow internet. Great for chilling, not a party place.

Sorry to desapoint you , but we try hard to keep every thing clean and organized , and sometimes the manager have to be out to solve the problems , we are a small hostel is impossible to have a big staff .

The owners Susan and Ozzie are really nice and helpful. It is Definitely a clean hostel. And Trindade itself is peaceful and quaint. We had a private room which was pretty small, and had plenty of creepy crawlies. The hostel only has one common area - a big table where everyone sits around smoking. Would be ideal for some people, but wasnt really our cup of tea. Oh and 'home-made breakfast' was just toast and cake.

Dear Leah, Thanks for your comments. We are very sorry about the insects in the room, we were not aware of this problem and it has already been taking care of. Concerning the common area outside on the deck it is a smoking area but it is not the only common area. We do have another comfortable common area inside in the reception with three big sofas and it is non-smoking. Oh, maybe you did not notice but our cakes and fruit muffins are all homemade every day and our toast are served with homemade jams like guava and banana jams made with homegrown bananas from our land. Best regards, Trindade Sea and Forest Hostel

We booked a private twin bed room, and as such were taken to the hostel owner's sister's place which was setup with private rooms for rent. It was secure, clean and fine for our purpose which was only for 1 nights stay. However, we were not staying in a hostel - more someone's flat that had spare rooms.

I actually ended up staying in their affiliated hostel - San Fermin Hostel. The hostel is in a great location for partying it up, however if you want some sleep don't stay here because its in the main party strip of town. The staff were lovely. The free breakfast was just cornflakes. The beds were comfy and the place was kept clean. It was a good place to meet people, and very close to everything. No big lockers, but they do have smaller lockers you can rent to keep your valuables in.

The location of the place was great. Right next to San Margherita Piazza. About a 10 minute walk to either San Marco or the Rialto, 5 min walk to Piazzale Roma where all the buses are. The staff were friendly and the place was kept very very clean. This is not a social hostel though. Dont stay here if you are expecting to meet loads of other travellers and have a fun party time. The beds a little on the small and uncomfy side.
