Beautiful Riad with friendly staff. Very pretty ambience with an orange tree and small wading pool in the courtyard. We stayed 3 nights, and returned (after a few days in Fez) for another 2 nights. On our second return night we actually forgot to book and could not stay there as it was fully booked, but the staff helped us find another Riad near the square.

The room is very nicely decorated with a couple of old armchairs and nice, if old, carpets, giving it a more lush feel than we were expecting. The location is excellent as it is very close by the railway station in Siena, although if one is arriving by bus at plaza gramsci then it is further away, about 15-20 min walk, as the casa is outside the historical centre and city walls.

Be warned -- they give the address as Haarlemmerdijk 52 in the email, but when you get there no one answers the bell (we got in because a neighbour who happened to be walking her dog took us in). When you do meet the residents of that place, they seem nonplussed, tell you this is not Bethany B and B, though they do offer to call the right person for you. So they do that and you get the correct address (for us it was the Spuistraat location). So you go to Spuistraat and again you ring the doorbell but no body answers! Someone only answers about 15 minutes later when we call the hostel again -- apparently Angela the proprietress didn't hear the doorbell. Great. Admittedly, once you've managed to get yourself there, it is a pretty nice place. Angela will give you a map and talk you through the different places of interest. Our room was clean and cosy, through it lacked table/shelf space, meaning we ended up putting things on benches and the floor. We had 6 people to a bathroom, which was inconvenient but not cripplingly bad. The keys -- the front door is a bitch to open. You have to turn it all the way, and then push a bit more before the lock yields. Once you know the trick it is fine, but when it is your first time returning late on a rainy night, god help you. Ah, as for the breakfast part of the description -- Angela basically buys food and puts it in the fridge, and you cook your own breakfast. It works out fine, but when you pay for a b&b the expectation is that they will cook a warm meal for you... otherwise, it's no different from staying at a backpacker's and doing your own grocery shopping. All in all, pretty disappointing given its high rating. Would we go back again? Now that we know what to expect, it is true that the location is fantastic and suitable for people who like their independence and privacy. But because of the low level of service, facilities, and various inconveniences, I say give this place a pass.
