The hostel could REALLY DO with a secure Bicycle-Park/shed; ideally 'Sheffield-type' bike racks with a WEATHERPROOF ROOF covering them, so that bikes can be kept dry in a place that often has a fair share of rain. Ideally the bike rack/shed should be located next to the main entrance so that it is easy to find and Cyclists don't have to mess around in the dark lookiing for it when arriving or if getting access to their bike at night.

One feature Avalon have had that I like, is the 'Free Stuff' bin where people can leave behind clothes, etc. if they have to reduce luggage for flying home, and those in need of spare items can take something for free. However, on my last visit, I noticed that the bin was now labelled 'stuff for charity shops', to be donated to charity shops in the locality. Is this really the best idea? Instead, hostellers could be allowed to take items from the bin again if they put money in a charity box.

As usual, I had a great time staying at Avalon House, and it is also very handy to have the Bald Barista Cafe on the premises 7 days a week for buying a decent breakfast. Just one minor quibble: when I used the members kitchen I noticed that most of the teatowels looked extremely old and dirty; it wouldn't cost a lot to have new ones more frequently or have them bleached/washed more often at higher temperature to make them last better!
