We were put in a separate apartment, about a 5 minute walk from the hostel. Clearly there was an overbooking. Although it's nice to have our own space, ensuite room and kitchen facilities, there was no utensils to cook or prepare food with. In regards to the security, the main door to the street was unlocked and the door to the property had a simple lock. No wifi, no aircon and holes in the walls in the bathroom (clearly an unfinished refurb).
Lovely, clean, fantastic staff and very accomidating! Close to train station and port, perfect for our needs.
We stayed in the private studio: was smelly, dirty, buggy and noisey (couldn't sleep with the window closed as room became an oven). The photos on their website (www.hostelsmith.com) do not reflect the private we were given. Disappointing private studio considering the price, dorms may be better....only positive is the location is excellent and easy access to tram, beach and old town.
Staff were fabulous and location perfect. The rooms are clean and comfortable and spread out through the building, breakfast is sufficient (eggs and toast) and lots of group/touring opportunities as well as great advice! Wifi is difficult to access away from main common room, but plenty of space to chill out, relax, using internet or cook in kitchens.

Good location, close to the station and easy to access by foot. Day staff are confident and accommodating, night staff speak little English and can be appear rude/patronising.
Had food stolen from the fridge in the kitchen and hostel was more like a hotel on an interesting strip. Good if you're looking for a cheap place to rest your head close to the old city but nothing more...
It was worth climbing the 5 flights of stairs to get to the hostel and it's brilliant staff! Plenty of wc/shower rooms and good kitchen. Close to everything you need in Riga!
The pension was in a perfect location, easy access to everything in Prague! The cafe below offered reasonable priced food and drink however was quite noisey at night, even with the windows closed.
I would suggest modifying the directions to the hostel as by foot it is not very specific and easy to find, even if you're relatively familiar with Cluj.
Content with the experience for the amount paid but would have expected a more pleasent greeting when checking in. Also information about the hotel services was difficult to find as no information was left our room. Would stay again if in Brussels due to the ease of accessing the Grand Place and area, but would like more friendly and willing to assist staff, opposed to the feeling that we were bugging them if we had a question.
Although the obvious feature of this hostel is it's security when you first arrive, fear not! The building is quite secure, you'll never be hassled if you bump into anyone, rather you will just get a friendly hello. The staff are fabulous! They know everyone who is staying in the hostel, take care of you, your belongings and the hostel, they keep the troublemakers out and encourage a good time. We met heaps of people with the kitchen being a big community area. The hostels' location was perfect with all tourist attractions to the city and easy to access buses and Sainburys for dfo to cook. The showers, toilets, beds, linens, kitchen and overall rating of the hostel was perfect for the location and price! Totally worth a stay again and again!
