Portus House Istanbul

Istanbul, Turkey

Great central location if you want to explore the old and the "new" part of the city. The ferry to the Asian side is also a 2 min walk away. The double bed room was large and clean and the bed comfortable. The staff was helpful. There's a supermarket, the best baklava, the coolest restaurant in town (Maya) and more delicious food less than a 1 min walk away. We didn't use the kitchen except to make tea, but it's well furnished. It's really quiet, actually more a "friendly hotel" than a "hotel".

Westend City Hostel

Vienna, Austria

Excellent place if you need a place to stay and sleep in Vienna, but definitely not the place if you want to party. A short walk (an even shorter bike ride on the free city bikes) to the center; just far enough that it's a bit cheaper, and you won't miss anything. Beds are really comfortable and my room was super clean. There are large lockers in each room where you can lock your stuff. The breakfast is quite basic, with just some cereal, bread, jam coffee and tea.

Heart of Gold Hostel

Berlin, Germany

Excellent location, very central. I felt the common room was too large, and too many people used laptops/phones (which is not gonna change anytime soon) which was not very conducing to meeting new people. The hostel is on the large side, so it can get a bit impersonal, but it's otherwise excellent value for the money. Comfortable beds and nice pillows (seriously, some of the largest most comfortable pillows I've seen! :) and having free towels is a very nice touch (thanks to the theme!).
