Borders Beyond looked to me a Home right after I first stepped into the kitchen/living room, where other people where living their stay as house mates. It does not feel to be in a pack and go, fast and busy place, it got atmosphere!!It is not a huge hostel, therefore allows for quiet living. David, the owner, is super nice and helpful, making is very easy to arrive to a totally new place and settle down as if having been there all the time. Definetely the place I'd call Home in Auckland.
Very basic structure and facilities with a rather and cold atmosphere. Common spaces are limited and overcrowded. The living room is dark and in a general bad shape. The reception is open very little time, therefore if you arrive after midday and before 4 pm (which is quite a common time of arrival) you don't get your place and have to phone the hostel manager (there is a public phone up the street, 500 m from the hostel). IT would have been nice if it was advertised better. Extremely dirty.
Considerably a good hostel, stayed there for five days and it was all right. Baths and dorm were clean. Probably the dorm for 12 people is undesized, in such a small room is difficult to sleep when there are 12 guests, but you can live with that. Air conditioning and free wifi. The kitchen was missing the cooker, only microwave oven available, but the sourrounding area has plenty of good price restaurants. I would recommend it.
