Getting better every time
Great improvement since I last stayed here last year. Security and cleanliness has been improved.
Very big hostel. No character but very clean and everything is well organised. Especially that you have to give a deposit for dishes because of thieves experiences from hostel stuff. Next to beach (50m). A great generator beside the sleeping rooms disturbs sleeping (female dorm). Handy, easy and uncomplicated.
Pleasure to have been here, again
Good value for money with an excellent location
I always like this hostel. Great fun. It changes every time. New construction. New ideas and great people. Sometimes the staff get pissed with you. Like the long haired bearded guy who has no clue what he is talking about. I will be back next time.
Very good location

No hot water. My first floor window was above the next door bar/restaurant. It would have been cheaper to drink the night raather than sleep in this hooootel
Why pay more for less ? Great value for money.
A converted NHS hospital with showers only in the morgue basement,wi-fi golems, and exotic residents makes this hostel one of those "best live Victorian London" moments. 100% goes to the staff and I have extended my stay by another 4 days. (Bad weather and closed airports were not the reason)
Why pay more and get less ? This is the third time that I have stayed in this hostel and have found that it gets better each time. It meets all the criteria and because it does there are lots of other fun travellers. This creates the Irish craic ....
The management clearly view guests as people and not as money. Each bunk has curtains around it offering privacy for changing and sleeping. On check-in you receive two cleanly laundered sheets and a disposable hygenic pillow-case. At breakfast ladies in uniform run round collecing plates and cups and then wash them in the kitchen for the next users. Other hostels also do this but usually for twice the price and not as centrally located. This hostel is next to the British Museum....
Just a little bit extra makes a difference to a b'packer on a long trip. Like free laundry, a wider selection of breakfast than other hostels and longer than most (5 hours). Since Liverpool has now improved as a tourist location this hostel is worthy of a 3 night stay to see all that the city can offer (Tate Liverpool, Beatles, Mersey Ferry, Museums and Galleries galore (slavery, emigration, Walker, FACT) football stadia and great clubs / live music. Onwards to Isle of Man or Ireland ...
Hostel staff try to treat guests the best and this one does, but with 1 exception. Never mix long-term residents with travellers. A fatal mistake! I was given a room with 1 other occupant - a long termer who did his laundary at night and hung it all over the room, who kept his food under the bed attracting flies, who read his book late at night leaning out the window with his beer and cigarette (illegally smoking)and who woke up very early making a noise to get ready for work. Cleanliness loss.
Second time I am staying here which says it all ...
My second time so that says it all ....
At the junction of the High Road and the Low Road I met the most hospitable Hostel and fellow travellers - the music and the Guiness flowed and the Island rocked through the night with unsupposed nature during the day .....
Meet them once in your room and end up touring with them all over West Ireland - Great Place and very central
Excellent value for money with all that I expected. I would stay here again
The Karaoke on Thursday nights is something not to be missed. The coffee shop is always great for meeting people and the bar is great for watching sport on TV
One step above the others now giving clean linen at check-in including disposable pill-cases that are also recyclable. Cannot beat the location next to the Hyde Park
Cheap and cheerful, why pay more when this place offers all you want - great location, clean room, warm bed and hot showers, fresh continental breakfast etc
The new curtain and lights beds make this place more than attractive and for the first time I was South of the River and took advantage of it. Imperial War Museum and the Ministry of Sounds without having to worry how to get back North after the Tube shut-down.....
Who needs toast and cornflake breakfast when you can get free pints and music till 3 am. Chose your life-style and this is it. Experience living above a Traditional English Pub with all the unexpected trimmings.
Cheep and cheerful, clean and helpful.
As a wandering Irishman all I ever wanted was a warm and cozy bed and a hot shower - and this hostel offers this and a lot more. I used it as a base for 11 days to see Santiago, the nearby sea towns and resorts and the montain ski resorts and hot springs. It is the cheapest, it is the warmest, it is within walking distance of all the day and night attractions and museums. I was given the best advise on local soccer, ballet, movies, laundry and Coffee with legs. Stay here for home away from home
Cheap and Cheerful - you can walk London from here. (Zone 1)
Royal is included in the name for a reason - check it out ;-)
Tour-books tell you cannot find black-cabs to go south of the river after dark. Many incorrectly believe this to be a safety issue. The truth is they are protecting it from tourists. Hoot-A-Nanny is no exception. Great live band, open till 3am, fully equipped kitchen with supermarkets 5 minutes away clean showers and sheets, and a key for all doors in-case you go to Brixton Academy (top London gig venue). Clean common room, leather arms-chairs, wide-screen TV, balcony over the beer-garden.
Great place for a laugh including the bar staff who sleep / fall out of bunk-beds
Why pay more if you don\'t need to. Meets all the best requirements and close to Bayswater/Queensway shopping and nightlife.
I am always willing to go back to this one. Nothing lacking and great price for London
I always meet a new girl-friend whenever I stay here. Maybe like people think alike and book hostels alike. Great price for a great location.
Go for Room 5 - some talk in their sleep (\"Oh yeah, I can\'t wait, this is going to be fun\" said the Canadian girl and the rest of the room responded \"we can\'t wait either\", some talk to their dead ancestors in clicking languages (the Xhosa) some live there for months (the Aussie), some have gadgets and never leave (The China-man), some work in Soho bars (The Frenchman) and some are just tourists (the Chilean ladies and the Irishman and the American) - and you get a free drink from the bar
next to the cemetery, far from the city center, double booked beds means you are woken in the middle of the night, no luggage lockers, many extremely young tour groups (8-14) means you are actually limited to breakfast times as they are given preference etc etc
clean bed, hot shower and fresh breakfast - so worth the value, limited in style but close to Bayswater / Queensway night life and shopping facilities
no minuses at this place - the Smart group has learned how to take care of a travellers needs
20 person room is great for laughs
overbooked rooms leads to grumpy staff
Why pay more to get less at another hostel? comfy bed, hot shower and breakfast at a good price.
forget about a free breakfast - this places offers free beer
always a pleasure to meet the aussie homeless and drink the night away singing and playing poker.
Two nights in one of London\'s best located, cleanest and priced hostel leaves me rearing to head back on the road.
Why travel the world when you can meet the world in this hostel? Every night a new set of friends and every morning the cleaning staff makes it all fresh again. 20 minutes from all the great attractions and night life and breakfast is thrown in as well.
Cheap and Cheerful - why pay more for any hostel when this one offers all you need - a clean bed, a hot shower and breakfast.
A one minute walk to Hyde Park and the vibrant Queensway area makes this hostel real convenient. A pity that kitchen and breakfast facilities are lacking.
Cannot find better at the price - I frequently use it when I am in London and it just gets better each time.
Like to see how the other half live - this is the chance in the life-time ;-)
This is part of a larger group (Hostel 639, West Two, Central and Hostel 63) all with the same management so all with the same service and style. Take your pick and based on price and location.
Cheap and cheerful - you pay for what you get, if you want more then pay twice as much - if you want a bed, a hot-water shower and company then why pay more !!
Meet the German 18 girl from hell who drinks like a sow and then returns it to the floor at 4am. Otherwise a great for a few days
Finishing a re-vamp this is clearly the best available hostel at the best price on South Beach. Sun, sand, sea and sex is obligatory !!!
Half-way between heaven and hell is the best way to describe this - heaven being the hostel that offers all and more including the best bar and entertainment I have ever had in a hostel but hell being the neighborhood which is rundown and boring so maybe stick indoors and only go out in the day.
Always a pleasure - cheap, cheerful, clean and near some great clubs. New DVD player which is great as the nearby library rents DVD\'s for real cheap.
Part of the SMART group of hostels this one offers the same great service and facilities as the others offer. Walk out the door and the bus to the West End is there, Hyde Park across the street and the Underground round the corner. As a traveler all you need is a bed and this one offers that.
You could not find a better place and a better price and better location than this. It is really in the middle of the Souk and 2 minutes from the night life. The cleaning lady scrubs the floor each day while breakfast is actually waiter served.
Cereal, Toast and Coffee for breakfast but no plates or cups. Very rude French-Moroccan lady at reception when I asked for these as the hostel doesn\'t have them. No heating in room in ice-cold winter. Very rude French-Moroccan lady at reception when I asked for this as the hostel doesn\'t have it.
Just opened and part of an existing group who know what they are doing. Lots of fun and the best location you could find.
Cheep and Cheerful for the Tired Traveler
Watch out for bad staff ! A hostel is a bed and when staff wake you up at 3 am to check for free beds (because their records are messed up) then the hostel is not worth returning to. I was in a 4 bed room with 2 people - one other and me. At 3 am the light when on and a staff member asked if there were free beds in a loud voice. Clearly 2 free beds. Then 2 people were escorted in and the sheets changed on the beds. Half an hour later and the lights were still on. Not nice at all !!!!!
Great roomies includng the german girls who belly-dance
If you want to be within walkimg distance of everything then this is the place. However the showers overflow a bit and the price of a beer in the bar is the same as the price of a bed - a refelection that this is a hotel and has a limited number of dorm rooms as well as many single/double rooms.
Been here a few times and it is also a good laugh - this time a group of Spanish teenagers together with Sasha the German receptionist and Hoodie the night man turned this place into a great week between my travels from Africa and back to the Middle East - yes Easyjet now flies to Turkey ;-)
Thursday eveing is Karioki. Friday is disco/party and Saturday is free Sangria and party.
The only problem in this hostel is that other guests, such as Spanish students, are frequent drug users. This spoils the atmosphere in the common / TV room where they smoke. This is also against the law but the security have problems getting them out each night.
Like all hostels, the atmosphere is dependent upon other guests. Normally I find this hostel good. However on this occasion there were a group of Spanish students who sat smoking drugs in the TV room.
Great place for loads of fun. Party in the TV room and dorms all night. Watch out if you are a anti-smoker ......
The rooms were cleaned every day but the toilets and showers were not. The toilets do not have locks on the doors and the seats are broken. Security is bad as often people would stay extra nights without paying or would have guests in for the night. This created a bad atmosphere with the hostel staff. They were very helpful but the situation is the owners and not theirs - many of the staff are also backpackers just traveling and earning something while doing so. However the location is great, the character is great with lots of fun such as a snooker table and large communal area. I could recommend this hostel but be wary ....
A bit far from the beach but this is made up for its other excellent qualities.
