Happy Buddha Boutique Hostel

Medellin, Colombia

Great hostel with great atmosphere. It's got its own bar, and even though that's a great thing for many, it may not be if you are the quiet kind of person (but only during weekends, in weekdays the bar may even be closed). About the free Sunday BBQ, it seems they have not held it for a couple of weeks in a row, I don't know why, but I was expecting it. Anyway, a great place to stay and to socialize with other guests because there are plenty of sofas and even a billiard table!

Black Sheep Hostel Medellin

Medellin, Colombia

This is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed. Staff is great, they are very nice and helpful. Seriously, in my travels along 40 countries I had never found such a great people managing a hostel. The house is placed in a quiet neighborhood close enough to the subway (8min), the party district (10min) and the airport (30min), walking time!!. Btw, you have to do the Pablo Escobar tour, it's COP35k ($18/13€) for four hours visiting the city understanding the problem with drug cartels in the 90's

Very nice hosts and very cosy hostel. There is plenty of free parking in the premises, and the $3 breakfast is superb. The only drawback is that you will definitely need public transportation or private car to reach the downtown.

USA Hostels San Diego

San Diego, USA

Good hostel, placed in a busy bar street of San Diego. The entrance islike a hole in the wall, so it may be difficult to find, but once inside you'll be amazed at the atmosphere. I was there just for an overnight stay, and had not problems at all. Would consider it if I came back to SD.

The place is quite far from the center of the city on foot, but very accessible by frequent buses until 2am or so. It's placed almost on a top of a hill, so going there on foot, although not impossible (it takes about 1h of going up steepy streets and stairs), it's not recommendable at all unless you want to do some heavy exercise. On the other hand, the sights from the roof are great, the hostel has plenty of facilities and the staff is really nice.

Smart Russell Square

London, England

After two years I was back in Russell Square hostel. It's a great place in every sense. Very good environment with a large common room to share a talk or drink with other guests from all over the world. Large rooms with 20+ beds are fine, organized in 3-level bunk beds. Each bed has a curtain and a locker, so privacy and security is guaranteed. The only drawback is about the electric wall plugs: there are just a few per room and not as many as desired in the common spaces.

Adelaide Hostel and Hotel

San Francisco, USA

I can definitely say this is one of the best hostels I've ever been. Staff is incredible nice, and willing to give you whichever info you need; there is held one different social event every day (during my 1-day stay I enjoyed a cheese-and-wine party); location is 3 minutes walk to the main square of San Francisco, but the hostel is in a quite quiet alley; and breakfast is amazing. Some other details are a cosy living room full of books, free WiFi and a huge kitchen to cook by yourself.

Metro Inns Falkirk

Falkirk, Scotland

It's a road motel. Used to be a Formula 1, but now it has changed. Not a place to look for fun, but fine and really cheap to spend a night enroute to somewhere else place.

Hatters Hostel- Liverpool

Liverpool, England

Great hostel, with great staff and tons of activities and information to enjoy your stay (for both inside the hostel and in the city). Dormitories are spacious and almost underground with some windows in the upper part of the walls. Private rooms also have a good size and they're clean and neat. Coffee, milk and/or tea is served for the buffet breakfast with cereals, toasts and yogurt.

Hostel Riad Marrakech Rouge

Marrakech, Morocco

Very good placement, near to the main square but not too close due to the noise it produces. The hostel itself is great, including its really helpful and gentle staff. Nicely decorated in the moroccan style, with a large roof to hang out with people from everywhere in the world. The rooms are spacious and are provided with a fan but NOT air conditioning, which is a pity during the summertime because temperature may stay above 30ºC during the night and above 40º during the day.

City Hostel Krakow

Krakow, Poland

Really nice hostel, managed by great young polish people. Completely clean. Only drawback is the almost lack of electric plugs in large rooms (just 2 or 3 for a >10 beds dormitory).

Osaka Guest House

Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Soon after completing the booking I was mailed by the owner communicating me they were closing just for the dates I had booked. No refund of deposit nor alternative solution was offered, simply because there was no reply from my subsequent emails to them.

Go Inn Hong Kong

Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Very nice people manage this hostel. Only bad point is the lack of a communal area. The rest, as usual in the hostels of HK: placed in residential buildings, small bathroom, no heater in the room (not really necessary).

Go Inn Hong Kong

Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Much better hostel than those placed in TST Mansions. I would definitely consider it for my future stays in HK. In this case I booked a double room and received a room with 2 beds, one of them larger size. The bathroom was small, but the sights from the room's windows incredible (16th floor). It is placed in a residential area with plenty of services around as subway, supermarket, money exchange, farmacy, etc.

The Meeting Place

Taipei, Taiwan

I found great people in this hostel, starting with the awesome owners. Place is really cosy, huge and bright space. During nighttime they play videos in a 4-meters-wide screen or play videogames, but at the same time there's space enough to just talk with the nice people around there. The Meeting Place is very close to Songshan train station, really convenient if you are going to visit the gorgeous Taroko National Park, Hualien, or whatever else spot in the east coast of Taiwan. Follow strictly the dire

Kanazawaya Ryokan

Sado Island Niigata Pref, Japan

Nice hostel with nice staff. However, we where the only guests there (wintertime). The hostel is placed something like 2km away of the center of the city. Not easy to find without help of the locals. There is a Onsen just 5 minutes on foot.
