Brilliant staff! So friendly and helpful. A very busy hostel, the lounge was always packed in the evenings, difficult to find a seat. The private rooms aren't located in the main building, but in an apartment 15 mins walk away, so felt bit separated. Rooms were good for a night or 2, but the bed was hard and creaky. No proper curtains in the room either, so you woke when the sun rose at 6am and d a streetlight shining in the room all night.

Brilliant place to stay in Galway! Like a 5 star hotel for backpackers, not a party hostel, subdued atmosphere! Staff were so helpful and friendly! So clean. Very comfortable beds. Huge lounge with TVs. Good choice of food and drink at breakfast!. I will definitely stay here gain!

Good place to stay, comfortable beds, and a fabulous breakfast. Has lots of groups of younger people staying here, like silly loud giggling school girls who hang out in the corridors until late. About 30 mins walk to the city centre.

Great place in NYC that does cheap single rooms! Good location in a cool, safe area. The breakfast room is way too small for the amount of people, I could never get a seat and had to eat standing! It's a confusing set of buildings - maybe adding signs to the lounge, breakfast room would a be good idea It was quiet and comfy and I'd definitely stay here again. John on the desk was great for advice!

I liked it here! It was super clean, and the location is great! Wished they'd have had a big TV room or lounge, somewhere more comfortable than the canteen/bar area. It gets busy here and one morning I couldn't find anywhere to sit at breakfast! Atmosphere is a bit austere, but that's because it's more like a hotel not a typical drunken backpacker place. I would stay here again.

The owner loves responding to people's negative comments on here. Yes, this hostel is good value in a reasonably pricey city, and yes, it's a good location. BUT the bathrooms seriously need to be renovated! The building is old - but that's no excuse! Money needs to be spent on the bathrooms now before it's too late. They look like something from a derelict building. Not nice. Smelly from the drains too and the shower taps don't always give enough water flow.

Probably the best hostel in Chungking Mansions, run by Chinese NOT Indians. Rooms are clean, and its very quiet there. However, it is more expensive than most other hostels there. Good a/c in rooms. Beds are comfortable, but no mattress protectors underneath sheets. No atmosphere as most people stay in their rooms, so no traveller vibe.

Very close to the main train station - if you use the FRONT exit.....but hard to find the particular street it was on. Even taxi driver was unsure and I gave him the address in Chinese! Staff weren't there when I got there, I had to wait outside. The place is very clean, I stayed downstairs in my own room. A very small simple room with no window. It did the job, but I'll stay elsewhere next time.

Good location, but no staff after 6pm, so you get the door code and check yourself in, pay in the morning. Rooms are clean. Beds are hard! Bathroom floor is slippery when wet, dark, and has a step in a funny place, so just be careful. I would stay here again.

The owners didn't seem to be around too much, but it wasn't a huge problem. The place was great, SO clean! Just 2 mins walk from the FRONT side of Kaohsiung station. The staff are lovely and the free breakfast is great! The beds are very comfortable and the linen is new and fresh. Rooms can be a bit stuffy even with the window open, and could be a prob if there's a hot summer. 20 mins walk to the city centre, but there are several little supermarkets, a pharmacy and pubs 5 mins walk away.

A great place to stay! The staff are wonderful and the place is like a hotel. So clean. BUT, the rooms at the front of the building get the sun all day, and you can't open them! Why does this place have such great reviews?! I only thought it was average. Good location, but the building has a weird layout, so it was all disjointed and had no overall feel. Each corridor was self contained. Reception was downstairs and through an iron gate. Dorms were next to private double rooms. Lots of people hanging round the staff smoking dope at night.

I love Ceske Budejovice and I liked this hostel, although it is run as a secondary business to the tavern downstairs. The beds were comfortable and the lockers were big for a rucksack. A huge hostel, over 500 beds. It's very quiet and clean here and the staff are polite and functional. The location is average, opposite a metro station. However, there are many younger people staying here, late teens to early 20s, and not what I would call professional backpackers. They can be quite immature. Lots of Americans too.

I was wandering around Edinburgh at midnight trying to find the hostel - but had actually walked past it several times! Luckily, the hostel was a good one. Comfy beds. Breakfast could be bought - but i didnt see anything the next morning laid out like in the photos - there was nothing! Bought breakfast from a cafe instead.

I'm glad i only stayed for one night. The dorms are in outside outbuildings almost like converted horse stables! The heating is controlled automaticaly on a timer and went off during the night - the room was freezing in the morning. No carpet, cold floor. No atmosphere, even in the main house. It has a bar, but it never seems to be open. Not a nice place to stay.....it could be so much better!!

View Property Reply

We Cannot justify opening the bar when we only have a few guests in as bar staff can stand around all night to sell 2 drinks. When you check in the staff show you a map with all the local hotels and bars , the closest bar and restaurant only a 200 metre walk from the hostel. The heating control in the room is controlled by the guests in the dorm room it is on from 4pm at night until 10am next day. Low season is quieter I cannot control that.

2 minutes walk to the beach and main road. The air con in the dorm was lovely and cold! Too bad the staff didn't leave enough toilet paper in the dorm bathroom. One roll for 3 days isn't enough. I went out and bought some myself. Also the bin in the bathroom hadn't been emptied for several days and was overflowing. I also read another comment about this too! Better housekeeping, please!

ok noted for the dorm houskeeping but as for toilet paper we give on request some use one roll at a time !! really ! you couls have asked the reception to clear the room the dorm is always an issue for it is up to all to keep it reasonable . next time save the dorm incovienience take a private room!

Every room and corridor has bare grey concrete walls. Like a prison. So dark. The staff (one girl in particular) was so bossy. My bus turned up 10 mins early, and she came up to my dorm at 8am, yelled 'Hurry Up!! Bus is here!!' and stood in my dorm watching me pack my things in my bag. Totally unnecessary. Don't treat me like a naughty school child.. The staff are young Cambodian kids in their early 20's yet they are so serious and strict.

Get some air conditioning in the dorm!! It's unbearable in the heat, especially as the tiny dorm has 6 people in a space meant for 4. Also, this place gets locked up at 9pm, so you have to go to other hostels and cafés even to get a bottle of water. Why close so early?!? There are lots of hostels and guesthouses along this road, this is just one of many. Nothing special.

The hostel was so small for the amount of people, the bathrooms are tiny, the rooms are cramped - 14 people in a dorm really the size for 8. Also, there are many Russian workers staying here, they take up all the chairs and space in the lounge, hog the TV and the laptops.

We did a big investigation to find out what happened. It turns out,u claimed that u paid to a previous administrator, then with our manager you sat down, looked at the video on our CC cameras, where you clearly promised to pay on the next day.So ur attempt to stay for free didn't succeed and u decided to write this review. There were no bad sheets,or Brazilians, or any of that.Hate to tell you how to live your life, but if you try to steal, make sure there are no CC cameras recording it. Cheers!

Excellent!! The downstairs lounge is fabulous! Leather chairs, golden mirrors, wow! The beds are comfortable, the staff are wonderful and so helpful!! The hostel is very quiet at night, which is good for sleeping. The kitchens are well equipped and the bathrooms and showers are spotlessly clean! I'll stay here again!!

KEX Hostel, Reykjavik, Iceland
5.7
30th Aug 2013

The bar and lounge are great, but as for staying here...well, its only average. There are better hostels in Reykjavik, like Hlemmur Square. Kex had old, unclean bathrooms and showers. Kex is really a bar, restaurant and hangout for locals, the hostel seems to come second. The travellers staying here get treated like an inconvenience. Locals rule here, sadly. It shouldn't be that way, Kex should cater more for the visitor and tourist.

A good hostel right in the old town! A bit difficult to find. Comfortable beds and large dorm rooms with lockers. The owner lady is lovely and very friendly! Only bad thing is the bar down stairs that plays pumping loud dance music until 1am. Bring ear plugs if you want to sleep!

A great place to stay in Bar. A 30 minute walk to the town centre. The rooms are excellent hotel standard, immaculately clean - rooms have a little kitchenette to make hot drinks and meals. The Kojic family offer free pick-up from the bus or train station - but they didn't pick me up as they thought I was arriving at 7pm, so was left waiting at the train station. I eventually got a taxi there for 5 euro. I will stay here again!

Nice villa with pool. Quiet semi-rural location. My only real problem was the the noise from some other backpackers. There needs to be a 'no noise after 10pm' rule. One night I was kept awake until 1.30am (!!!) with a party and singing outside on the terrace. The staff did nothing about it! Some guests had to be up early at 7am for diving, walking or cycling. Not everyone was here to party. Respect that. The lack of noise control at night ruined what could have been a fabulous place to stay.

How the hell has this hostel got such high ratings?!? It's like a hostel in India or Asia. It's cramped, smelly, the beds are old, the bed sheets smell and the whole hostel is dirty. The floor under my bed was filthy with old rubbish. I had a huge bug crawling on me one night. The washing machine and dryer is located inside a bathroom(?). There is no kitchen, no fridge. There is no lounge and no chairs in the dorms. This place is really bad, especially for Europe.

A nice hostel in the old town area of Koper. Very clean, comfortable beds and pillows, new furniture and also air conditioning in the rooms!! Lockers in the rooms are big enough for rucksacks. A little kitchenette on each floor to make hot drinks and a fridge, but no place to make meals. The hostel is very small but quiet and relaxed. However, there isn't a lounge area to chill out and meet other travellers which would be nice. I would stay here again!

There is a lounge area, but it's filled with fake jungle and huge wooden ornaments! Take these away and provide a proper lounge with comfortable chairs and a TV for people to meet each other and hang out!! There is no proper kitchen, just a microwave and kettle. Alright for a couple of nights if you are a backpacker.or on a very low budget. A little breakfast is included in the price. The bathrooms could do with renovating - there was mould and they looked bad. The location is in the downtown 'Egyptians' area, but.is.near beaches, although the area can be a bit noisy for traffic and car horns if you want an early night. The owner is kind and friendly, and pre-booked me a cheap taxi to the airport.

Good points: A good cheap place to stay in Calangute. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean. I like the idea of having a little kitchenette with worktop and sink. A 5 minute walk to the shops, 10 mins walk to the beach. Bad points: Could do with better direction signs: once you got past the Mira Hotel and into the little yard, you couldn't see the house as it is hidden by other houses and shacks. Also, the owner wasn't around at all - the long term German guest living upstairs checked me in!

Quite clean and comfortable beds - for India. However, the male staff kept coming into the female dorm everyday to remind us when breakfast or dinner was. You have to vacate the room by 10am for cleaning and one morning 2 male staff walked in at 9.30am - while I was naked and getting dressed!! More guest privacy needed - and also more fun! There's nothing to do at this youth hostel - there needs to be a lounge and a games room!

The lady owner is nice - but the place needs a clean. Plaster comes off the walls when you touch it. The pillow covers and the sheets on my bed were so dusty, if you slapped your hand down, dust flew up! (They can't have been washed in months!) The tables on the terraces needed to be cleaned too - residue of food and drink spillages - yuk!. No mesh at the windows so bring a mozzie net to keep the insects off. Alright for 1 or 2 nights - which is more than enough to see all of Jodpur's sights.

Its near the 'hash town' of Nimbin - but don't let that put you off! This hostel is a real gem! It's one of the best places I've stayed at. It's almost like an 'eco-retreat', hidden away in a converted farmhouse, tucked away up a quiet track. The views across the lush mountains and valleys are amazing. There are patios, and water gardens and hammocks to relax in. Plus the hostel is VERY clean and tidy - and the staff and atmosphere here in general is so friendly!

Surfers Paradise is a drinking and party town - fortunately the hostel was quiet with well behaved guests and backpackers. An average hostel. Nothing amazing, but nothing bad either. 45 seconds walk to the beach. 7 mins to town centre. Free bus to and from the greyhound bus transit centre was great.

The dorm doors constantly bang everytime someone goes in or out. Bring ear plugs - otherwise you won't get much sleep. Also, everything gets locked at 11pm including the kitchen, the internet and drinks machine. Why!?!? There are many more hostels

Fabulous!! So relaxed! It's like a little hippy commune! This is the BEST hostel I've ever stayed at anywhere in the world! I wish they were all like this! They really make you feel welcome here, nothing is too much trouble. You can help yourself to free tea and coffee in the kitchen, there's a bookshelf and a tropical garden with hammocks!

The facilities here are great: a pool, day beds, patios, a bar, a lounge with tv, and a well equipped kitched. The internet is so slow though! The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. I would stay here again.

A good hostel to stay in. Quiet and clean. A good lounge area with sofas and a big TV and books. No lockers in the rooms though. Most of the people staying here are not backpackers but young people working in the mining industry. That\'s alright.

A shit hole. And not that cheap either!! It\'s freezing cold, I got bitten by bed bugs, the rooms are like prison cells. The one person that runs the place is only there 9am-12pm, and then 4pm-6pm - what good is that!?!? Don\'t stay here!!!

A bit strange - it seemed to be run by 3 boys who hung out in the kitchen area on the 3rd floor! The hostel advertises 24hr security, breakfast, internet etc., but I didn\'t see any of this! Not a party hostel....but a cheap place to stay in Bangalore. Bathrooms could be cleaned better though!

Maria and John are a nice couple - but please start cleaning the toilet/shower rooms!!! There were ants in the shared one, upstairs. The shower head was rusty. The rooms were located round the back in a yard that looked a bit like a junkyard. The only good thing was the range of TV channels - HBO movies, BBC World.

We have always received various compliments for our garden. We take a lot of effort to keep the garden clean and beautiful. You are the first guest who did not appreciate the garden.

The bathrooms weren\'t very clean. The shower head was dirty AND rusty, and I had a little frog in my bathroom and a cockroach in my room. It\'s a bit ramshackle and could do with tidying up. There are better places to stay in Anjuna for the money.

The rooms are cleaned to perfection evertime there is a check out. We cannot stop the insect from coming into the room, we can get rid of them once we spot them.

A lovely hut in a tropical garden. The hut comes with electricity, running water, sink, flushing toilet, ceiling fan and mosquito net provided. Mandrem beach is big, beautiful and only visited by a few people! A real gem of a place to stay.

Only one problem staying here: the bedroom doors keep banging so loud! They need to alter the doors so they shut slowly and quietly rather then banging back into the frame! Not good when trying to get to sleep at night, or first thing in the morning. Quiter, non-banging doors please!

Positive Points: Clean, comfortable beds, Good Location, Bar & Lounge Area is well furnished and decorated, Cheap drinks during Happy Hour. Negative Points: Could be Noisy with drunkards between 11pm and 4am - staff on reception did nothing about this when a complaint was made. Staff on reception not very friendly or helpful - every question or request seemed like it was too much for them. How about a service with a smile? Not at Jaeger's!
