Allan who was in charge was awesome, great attitude, approachable and friendly when ever we came across him. The bad points are the local lady on the desk who came across nice when she checked us in but after that she came across rude and not very friendly when asking what there was to see and do around town. Also the young local who plonked our teas down on the table and did the same with our toast which looked like a 2yr old slapped together. Replace these two as they give bad attitude

Pans Place Guesthouse

It has a relaxed feeling about it and Chris and the ladies are super friendly and helpful. It is only 300metres from town but can feel longer if your wanting to hang out near the bar strip(westerners around corner from the tubing company) which makes it about 20 mins walk (which doesnt matter as you hire bikes for day to explore)Room was secure and fan was plenty for the time we were there. Must do is tubing (even if not a drinker, so beautiful scenery) an blue lagoon.

If your not looking for a fancy hotel, or a backpackers (which worked out to be more expensive if there are two of you) then this place was ideal. It was close to the food places/bars, 5mins walk to the beach. The snorkeling trip for $15 is well worth it if you don't want a cramped party boat for $7. They don't do breakfast but opposite Funky Monkey (around the corner from hotel) is a lady who does baguettes for 10,000D (50c) it had Chay on it as vegetarian(I'm not, but found them delicious).

Jade Hotel

The staff were amazing and didnt push any tours on us. Its not as social as bpakers but that's just around the corner. It's cheaper here for two than a hostel. The breakfast is great variety and more than enough. It's a hotel not hostel so its atmosphere and social wouldn't be that high anyway. I highly recommend it or go to bpakers if you want socialize.

Golden Time Hostel 2

This place was awesome in the fact that the staff went out of their way to make sure your needs were being catered for (sometimes it felt a bit pushy when we were deciding on a halong bay trip but they meant well) they let you leave your bags while at Sapa or Halong and they let you have a shower/give you breakfast even if you return just to get bags for bus. It's a little bit away from booking area an bars, but rooms are massive and cheaper here for two than in most hostels. Not really social

This is great if you want somewhere near beach not the city (city's average). The beach here is better than the one near town as its water is clear and sand is clean, near town is brown murky but less touts. If you want to book bus go to bus station in person (20mins at most once on bus). The beach was clear one day but rubbish did turn up in the water quite bad the next two days, you had to wade it away (what you do with seaweed in Oz beaches) to get through it.Maybe time of year? Not hostels fault

As a new hostel this is awesome, clean, great location, helpful staff, spacious, a/c, great outdoor area. It's not a party hostel (there are enough in town) but if you a looking for a central place to chill or hang with mates, this is it. Travelled for 6yrs and this is one of my top hostels I've stayed at. Stayed in double room so can't judge dorms but bathroom was clean. Jojo highly helpful and suggestive of what to see and do. Good food.Highly recommend bike ride out to Moon Hill and buy map:)

As a couple we had a private ensuite room which was very spacious and could pass as a hotel room. There was plenty of space for guests to hang out in, inside there was the bar area, pool table area, and cinema are. Outside there was a roof top terrace which is probably one of the best we've seen as it wasnt just access to the roof top like most places. Staff spoke pretty good English and were real friendly and approachable. Great activities to get guests to mingle and meet fellow travellers.
