Refugio Hostel

Super hostel. I stayed here during the Carnival (so it was busy) but there was still lots of space to hang out in. The owner, Rick, is incredibly kind and goes out of his way to help and make your stay memorable. The other staff were great too, Joel and Jack. The breakfasts (cereal, fresh fruit, ham, cheese, yogurt etc.) were the best I had in South America and the lunches there each day were delicious and great value. Having that option made things easy. Highly recommend Refugio

Concept Design Hostel

Foz do Iguacu, Brazil

This was a great hostel. It actually felt more like a hotel than a hostel. It was incredibly clean and everything was very new. The rooms were well designed and had excellent showers. I also got brilliant advice from the receptionists. It's well located for the Itaipu dam and going to Iguacu falls (but you'll have to take a bus or taxi - easy though). Highly recommend this place. Nice pool too!

Great location right next to the bus station. Great for getting there and for getting transport to the waterfalls. The staff here were superb. Alex gave us all a briefing about the waterfalls which saved us loads of time, and Manu gave great advice too. The food served in evenings is delicious and good value and there is a nice pool (which you'll need in the heat!). Highly recommend Mango Chill.

Superb hostel in the most amazing city ever! Loads of cool space to hang out in and there are lots of trips that can be organized easily through the hostel. The receptionists here were incredibly patient and helpful and gave great advice and recommendations. It is well located near Palermo metro station and close to great night spots. Highly recommend this hostel. Good breakfast too.

Well located hostel which is great for socializing. There were loads of parties and events while I was there. It might be noisy if you want to sleep lots though. Great guys on reception to help and it is on the main street near lots of bars and restaurants. Well placed for local night life. Good place to stay. Some rooms quite cramped though.

Big hostel which is great for meeting people. Nice kitchen and great swimming pool. Class to have a cricket net in the garden too. There's also table tennis and a bar which you can swim up to! Class. My room was great: very spacious but the floor creaked a lot. There are lots of restaurants and bars close by and the metro station is near too.

Ecopackers is a superb base for exploring Cusco. There was a great atmosphere throughout my time there and loads going on. The staff there were superb: friendly, positive, helpful and always smiling. They even remember individual guests´ names which made you feel very welcome. Maria, Gregorio, Cesar and Denis were especially helpful on the front desk but the whole staff were brilliant. Great place to stay! Highly reccommended.

Backpackers has a great location in Miraflores; the hostel is clean, well-equipped and has a nice atmosphere. The staff are incredibly helpful, especially Gonzalo who patiently answered my many many questions and gave me loads of excellent tips about what to do and see in Lima. There is always excellent music playing in the common area and the location is safe and good for sampling the Lima nightlife in Miraflores and Barranco.

Check Inn HK

The staff were superb at the Check Inn hostel. Greeting us by our names and always being incredibly kind and helpful was wonderful. The accommodation is quite cosy (space is obviously at a premium in HK!) but it's kept incredibly clean and there is a great atmosphere in the first floor common room. The free bananas are a tasty feature too which was great.

A great hostel in a superb central location. Even though we stayed slightly out of season (late October) there was lots going on each evening at the Hostel including Mattias's excellent Tapas. Facilities were really good: clean and well-equipped. We'd definitely stay here again. The staff were all superb. Friendly, well-informed and eager to help.

The Old Rectory

Westport, Ireland

Really enjoyed our stay at the Old Rectory. The accommodation here is extremely characterful, comfortable and homely and Roisin, the host, cooks superb breakfasts and is very friendly. The hostel is about 3km away from Westport which was fine for us, as we had a car. If you don't have transport it's location is quite far out but even so taxis in were pretty cheap too, about 7-10 euros.
