Youth Hostel Meetingpoint

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Not bad. Bit on the pricey side, but that's Amsterdam for you. There could have been a kitchen available for residents.

Stone Hotel & Hostel

Utrecht, Netherlands

Very clean, very well-run, good mix of people, good atmosphere, good supply of stuff like food and kitchen supplies. Only two minor gripes: the breakfast was a bit expensive for what was on offer, and it's a little bit difficult to find if you follow the directions on the site. But otherwise it was all good. Definitely worth a visit.

Kiev Central Station

Kiev, Ukraine

Brilliant place. A bit of a walk from the station, especially in 35+, and the directions are a bit out of date (they changed the name of the roads, and it took a bit of time to find the right road) but generally excellent. Clean, friendly, helpful, TIU hostels are great. No hesitation in recommending this place.

Liverpool International Inn

Liverpool, England

Nice place, no complaints except for the extra facilities - TV wasn't tuned properly and there weren't any computers on site with internet access. There is a coffee shop next door, so this isn't an essential, but just a nice to have. Generally very nice place though

Euro Hostel Glasgow

Glasgow, Scotland

Big hostel and full of kids. But saying that, it was the world piping championships. Cheap and generally quite clean, although the linen could have been changed more often. If you need a cheap and convenient place to stay, definitely stay at this place.

Definitely one of the best hostels I've stayed in. Only problem was the influx of drunkards at the weekend, but luckily we were leaving as they arrived. Otherwise, no complaints, will definitely stay there again when I go back to Riga!

Jazz on Lenox

New York, USA

Very cool, but the emphasis on their lack of liability re lost belongings didn't engender a sense of security. Nothing was stolen, but still... But will definitely stay there again.

No character, staff not helpful. Honestly, spend the extra $15 and stay somewhere with some soul.

I went on previous reviews, saying that you get what you pay for. This is true, but it was still not what I had in mind. The larger 14-bed dorm is in better shape than the 8-bed dorm, to which I was moved with only one night on my stay to go, as the dorms had been double-booked. There are also a lot of rather odd people living there, which gives it the feel of a halfway house rather than a hostel. That being said, they are helping with the recovery of New Orleans, but it is still very odd that there were so few actual backpackers there.
