Dina's Hostel

Cairo, Egypt

A very cool part of Cairo, Downtown has a different buzz about it and their are lots of eateries and authentic spots real Cairenes hang out. This is a great Hostel to meet interesting travellers from across the globe upto all sorts in Egypt. The hostel is in a beautiful building tucked away off the busy streets. Dina's has a gorgeous old world elevator, but it can be a bugger when it is broke as it is quite a haul up five flights of stairs despite their beauty. Not great for mobility.

This is for people seeking privacy in a quiet, cheap place that has everything you need. It is not for a backpacking atmosphere and usually has elderly foreigners staying there. It is run by a young family who live upstairs. No breakfast is provided. We were extremely grateful to the owner who despite not speaking English stated up extremely late for us getting over from Granada. We arrived in the middle of the night despite receipting closing at ten and were still let in.

Funky Granada

We only stayed for one night to visit the alhambra and found everything we needed. They have en suite rooms with small kitchens and toilets shared with four people and this worked for us though we were lucky enough to have the room to the two of us. Unlike other venues though the outdoor facilities which constituted a simple roof terrace could be better.

If you are here to simply see the tourist sights, brushing off any real Sofian dust that might settle on your clean outer coat, than the Art Hostel is not for you. But if getting to know a city means crawling underneath its skin, than come here and encounter some of its most funky, trendy and friendly local residents. It's popular cellar bar, with it's edgy, kitsch, urban decor, is a favourite with the locals and so, regularly buzzing in the evenings with actors, media people, students, artists, and all
