We had a nice stay at the Mingtown Hiker Hostel in Shanghai. For us, the location cannot be beaten. Only minutes walk to Nanjing East Road and the Bund! This is the main reason we chose to stay here. The double ensuite room was spacious and had everything we needed. I would recommend paying the extra rather than staying in the double shared bathroom which is rather small and cramped. Check in was fast and efficient and the staff pleasant. With so much choice nearby we didn't eat in the hostel.
This room was very expensive in comparison to other hostels in China. The furniture was a bit shabby and nothing special for the price. The restaurant downstairs was horribly overpriced and pretentious. It felt more like staying is a restaurant than a hostel. In the room it was stated that breakfast was served until 1pm but on ordering in the restaurant they said breakfast was only served until 11am. The staff were friendly and recommended the hiking Great Wall trip which was very enjoyable.
Didn't meet us at the train station as promised! Terrible breakfasts, eat elsewhere. Terracotta Warriors tour was overpriced and LUNCH was not until 4pm! They promised no more than 17 on the tour but actually there were 24 people. Stupidily we booked the train to Beijing through the hostel, we asked for two middle bunks but got one bottom and one middle in different rooms! When questioned they reassured us they were in the same room but obviously this was lies. Beware of fake friendly staff!
We had an excellent stay at Huangshan Ancient Town. Our twin double room was clean, spacious and bright. The location couldn't be better, in the heart of the old town. A taxi to the bus station takes 10 mins and from here you can get a bus to Huangshan Mountain which takes around 1 hour. Some staff were helpful and friendly, others were not so nice. The breakfast was very delicious - I recommend the Swiss one. The social room with pool tables was a bit run down and could do with a make over.
We had a wonderful stay at the Hangzhou Hofang hostel over the Spring Festival. The room was excellent with everything we needed. We especially liked the loft style bed. The cafe was a good option for breakfast, but could have been a little hotter. The location of the hostel is excellent in the 'old town' area. The staff were very friendly and helped us with all our concerns. I would highly recommend this hostel to others. Thanks for an excellent stay. :-)
We had a very nice stay at this hostel in Suzhou. It is on the main historic canal street in the city and is close to all the nearby attractions. We chose a double room with shared bathroom facilities. The bathroom could have been kept cleaner, but it was fine. The room was cold but soon heated up when we put on the a/c. The cafe/restaurant area is not located within the hostel, it is a couple of doors down in another entrance which took away from the atmosphere in the hostel.
We had a lovely stay at the Mingtown Hiker Hostel in Shanghai. The private room was more like a hotel than a hostel with tv, hot water, wifi, towels and everything else you could need provided. Downstairs was a nice little bar/restaurant area which had meals, snacks and drinks. The location was excellent. Unfortunately, one guest made quite a lot of noise that night after coming in drunk and kept half the hostel awake for most of the night but I would still stay here again.
Had a nice stay at this hostel. Tiny room but clean and all facilities provided. Hot drinking water and wifi were a nice touch. Excellent and friendly staff. I would stay again.
