Retro Moldova Hostel

Chisinau, Moldova
74%

A good hostel that covers all the basics. There were only a few of us staying there during our two nights so there were no facilities issues but I can imagine that, with only one bathroom, a full hostel could have a bit of a queue at peak times. Still, Mark was a good host and always willing to help out with public transport and in a city where choice is thinner on the ground, Retro is still probably the best bet.

Umbrella Hostel

Bucharest, Romania

A well run and pleasant hostel. Breakfast is pretty good, with bread, ham, cheese plus a toastie maker. The location of the hostel is in the middle of the old town area and the museum area so, whilst it's not perfect for either, it's ideal for both. Highly recommended.

Riad Chez Lea

Marrakech, Morocco
91%

A riad hostel and is a very nice place on the southern side of Jemaa El Fna that has staff who are willing to do anything possible to make your stay at their place as pleasant as possible. Mohammed, for example, was prepared to go all out to accommodate myself and my friends every simple request. The weekend we were there had the heaviest rain for several years and so nights in the rooms were cold - no heaters. Other than that, we all had a very lovely time at Nari-Nari, highly recommended!

Home Made House

Vilnius, Lithuania
94%

A very nice hostel on the bottom edge of the old town. The owner is a very attentive and friendly host and is always prepared to give out hints, tips and recommendations. Their is only one shower in the hostel but, with there being only 16 or so beds, it isn't too much of an issue with regards queuing but it could be a problem with a full house. Still, a very lovely place to stay and a host to match.

The Monks Bunk Nida

Nida, Lithuania

A very lovely hostel just a few minutes walk from the main centre of Nida. Not the easiest to find once on the street as it has no signage however but, once you get there, it is a very clean, well run little hostel. A perfect place from which to explore the Spit.

SunnyLakeHostel

Ohrid, Macedonia

A very nice hostel run by a pair of brothers. Breakfast is the usual fayre but is plentiful, the roof terrace has wonderful views over the bay and the private room (located next door) cannot be faulted, especially at the price. The location in the old part of town is very ideal for exploring Ohrid from. And explore Ohrid you must, as it is a truly lovely place. Go to Ohrid, stay at SunnyLake. You won't be disappointed with either.

Hostel Albania

Lovely place to stay located just 10 minute walk from Skenderbej Square. The grounds of the hostel are very well looked after and are a very relaxing place to enjoy a beer from the soon-to-be-finished bar. Staff are wonderfully pleasant and always happy to help. Luckily for us the hostel was very quiet in mid-June but having only two showers for a full hostel might be a bit of an issue. Other than that though? A great place to stay

A very good hostel, across the river, on the northern side of the city. Breakfast is excellent and the staff are very happy to help with any queries you may have. Rooms are basic with comfortable beds and the facilities are well looked after and cleaned regularly. All in all, a very pleasant place to stay.

Castle Rock Hostel

Edinburgh, Scotland
91%

An excellently placed hostel at the foot of the castle. Room was small but clean and the bathrooms were clean and well kept. The walls do feel as though they are made from paper however and the showers on the top floor did run out of hot water. All in all though, a very nice hostel, friendly staff and a perfect location: all for a very reasonable price.

Way Hostel

A good hostel in a good location in Madrid. The staff were very helpful and friendly, it's just a shame that, whilst we were in the common areas all that could be seen was the modern plague of hostel life - laptops, tablets, facebook and skype. Ruined the atmosphere in these areas, unfortuantely. But this is no fault of the hostel itself. Oh, and they have very good tapas recommendations.

LSE Rosebery Hall

This was student accommodation seemingly let out for use by travellers whilst the residents are not around over the holiday periods. Obviously, being such accommodation, don't expect much in the way of quality or amenities but, for £40, for a night in the centre of London for 2 people, you really can't complain.

A very nice hostel. Kept very clean and with pleasant and helpful staff. The rooms on the ground floor are quite susceptible to noise at night however, obviously depending on how many people are still up and talking. Still, a great base from which to explore the wonderful city of Kuala Lumpur

Andi and her staff couldn't do more to ensure that your stay in Budapest is nothing short of perfect. Great entertainment to be had on evenings out and wonderful food cooked for you by Andi herself. Just make sure you aren't too bothered with cats sneaking into your room in the early hours of the morning if you leave your windows open through the night. Thoroughly recommended place to stay.

If you've ever stayed in a Wombats hostel before then you will know what to expect. More a hotel for backpackers than an actual hostel but secure rooms, decent drinks offers in the bar, good recommendations for food in the local area and cleanliness all round.

The double room in the other apartment down the road is a lovely place for a couple to go and spend a weekend in Zagreb. The communal kitchen is well stocked and the bar area back in the main building is a good place to meet people - just a shame that the people there when we stayed were rather dull.

Hostel Enjoy

Jasmina could not do anymore to ensure that you enjoy your stay in Sarajevo. Her hostel may not contain the amenities of some but what the place lacks in physical attributes she more than makes up for it in her determination to do whatever she can for you. Only a short walk to the centre this is a hostel which is worth staying at.

An excellent hostel located within the old town. The room was clean and the toilet was also. We stayed in the private romms in an apartment a few doors down but with the hostel being looked after by such a sociable bunch of young ladies, it wasn't difficult to join in the fun later on. Definitely recommend it.

Hotel Jorgensen

Copenhagen, Denmark
60%

You can't argue against what you get for the price you pay in a city such as Copenhagen. It was a bed for the night which was what was required but I can't say that any hostel in Copenhagen is worth shouting about. If you just need a bed with an adequate bit of breakfast in an adequate place to stay then it's fine for you.

B&B Santa Sofia

A very nice B&B close to the Rialto bridge so within walking distance of everywhere in Venice, or near a waterbus stop if that would be preferable. The owners are very pleasant and always there to help. Breakfast being served in the room was a lovely touch.

Nice hostel located close to the station and not too far from the centre of Bremen. Could possibly benefit from a few more shower and toilet rooms as even with only a small number staying whilst I was there, queues still formed in the morning. Young lady on reception on arrival was a delight though.

A&O Hamburg Hauptbahnhof

Hamburg, Germany

A very hotel feel to the place. Check in staff and bar staff showed glimpses of personalities but at times seemed to be a little lost and confused by whatever it was they were being asked. Very convenient for the train station and a lot of fun was had in the bar into the wee small hours of Sunday morning. Cheap, convenient and not a bad hotel to stay in at all, but not what I would class as a hostel.

Wombats City Hostel Berlin

Berlin, Germany
70%

A lot more of a hotel than a hostel. Very safe place to stay and close to S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations for getting around the city. Bar on the top floor is a very relaxing place to start an evening. Inside the rooms, the small tables with light and plug socket at each bed were a very clever touch but the floor of the room needed to be cleaned. All in all though, a decent hotel to stay at that is safe and well run, but not what I consider to be a hostel.

Astoria City Hostel

Budapest, Hungary

The staff were polite, friendly and helpful, the private en suite we chose after having been camping for a week was on the floor below the reception and dorm rooms. It was a perfectly reasonable room, had a lovely little balcony and a fair sized bathroom. The lack of a mirror was most puzzling adn the floor was quite dusty/dirty but how can that be a complaint after a week in a tent? It was the right hostel for the one night we needed before our flight back.

The Loft Hostel Budapest

A fantastic hostel which I would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Budapest. Staff are excellent, common area is well stocked with things to do whilst getting to know fellow people staying at the hostel and it has to be said, Cliff makes a mean ice coffee.
